JUnit 4.12: testing util classes - java

I have a maven project in Eclipse called TdkUtils, with this pom.xml: This is a utils project. So I want to create a jar, put it in the repository and use it in another projects.
In this project I have this class:
#Service("smsService")
public class TdkSMSSender {
...
}
and a JUnit test.
#RunWith(SpringJUnit4ClassRunner.class)
public class TdkSMSSenderTest {
#Autowired
private TdkSMSSender smsService;
#Test
public void createStripeCustomer() throws Exception {
assertTrue (true);
}
}
But running the test I got this error:
java.lang.IllegalStateException: Failed to load ApplicationContext

But I don't know how to load the app. context because in fact that's not an application

You are looking for ContextConfiguration annotation
https://docs.spring.io/spring-framework/docs/current/javadoc-api/org/springframework/test/context/ContextConfiguration.html
then you'll have:
#ContextConfiguration(locations = {"/integrationContextTest.xml"})
#RunWith(SpringJUnit4ClassRunner.class)
public class TdkSMSSenderTest {
}
And you will need to have your test context (the integrationContextTest.xml) on classpath. Note slash before filename - it means the file will be right on classpath, not in some directory on it.
For example I have this directory on classpath:
d:\Projects\SomeProject\trunk\src\test\resources\
It contains all test contexts.
(Actually maven will put this directory on class path by default)

How can I scan or access a class that is in another folder?

I try to make tests of other classes that contain functions, but I don't know how or if I'm doing it wrong to inject them to the test and it works correctly. I have this TramsManager test which is located in src/main/java in the com.manager.commons.TramsManager.java package and I have the test file in src/test/java in the com.unittests.ValidateTramsManager package.
Test code:
#RunWith(SpringJUnit4ClassRunner.class)
#SpringBootTest(classes = TramsManager.class)
public class ValidateTramsManagerTest {
#Autowired
TramsManager tramsManager;
If I run it tells me this error :
java.lang.IllegalStateException: Failed to load ApplicationContext
And the class :
#Component
public class TramsManager {
private static Validator validator;
public static String createTramNotification(String operation, String ean) {
return operation + "|" + ean + "|";
}
I have another test where I do the exact same thing with another class and with other medos and it runs fine without any errors.
If i comment this #SpringBootTest(classes = TramsManager.class)
This other error comes out :
org.springframework.beans.factory.UnsatisfiedDependencyException: Error creating bean with name
I've tried ComponentScan trying to access the component where the class #ComponentScan(basePackages = "com.manager.commons") is located and it doesn't work either. What am I doing wrong and how can I fix it.
PD: I am using JUnit version 4

Getting NPE when trying to autowire using Spring framework

I am facing a NPE with autowiring so have put together a quick demo code below using which I am able to reproduce the problem.
Below code for Component class :
#Component
public class AppTest
{
public void printMe(){
System.out.println("This is a test print.");
}
}
Below code for Configuration code :
#Configuration
#ComponentScan(basePackages = "com.test.spring")
public class TestApplication {
}
Below test method which throws null at line test.printMe():
#RunWith(SpringJUnit4ClassRunner.class)
public class Test {
#Autowired
private AppTest test;
#org.junit.Test
public void Main() {
test.printMe();
}
}
Below an extract from POM.XML
<dependency>
<groupId>org.springframework</groupId>
<artifactId>spring-context</artifactId>
<version>${spring.version}</version>
<exclusions>
<exclusion>
<groupId>commons-logging</groupId>

<dependency>

Your test class is missing the #ContextConfiguration. Without it, Spring wont know where to find the necessary beans. The class TestApplication includes the #ComponentScan which will find all the beans in the specified package. So just point the context config to that class.
#ContextConfiguration(classes = TestApplication.class)
Updated Test Class:
#RunWith(SpringJUnit4ClassRunner.class)
#ContextConfiguration(classes = TestApplication.class)
public class Test {
...
}
I have 2 things to say
1st one try to use
#ContextConfiguration(classes = TestApplication.class)
in your Test Class.
2nd is the best practice always use Constructor Injection rather than Field Injection.
You can also read Field Injection is always harmful as compared to Constructor injection

Testing with Springboot #autowire does not work with #SpringBootTest

I am writing Junits in springboot application , which has only one Initializer class as
#SpringBootApplication
public class Initializer extends SpringBootServletInitializer {
#Override

}
}
and other controller and service classes.
My Junit for a service class looks like:
#RunWith(SpringJUnit4ClassRunner.class)
#SpringBootTest
public class ServiceTest {
#Autowired
private CommonUtils commonUtils;
-----do assert cases---------
}
When I am running Junit it is throwing error as:

Configuring data access layer properties files in Spring Integeration testing environment

I am setting up test environment for my Spring web application. I use .properties files and Environment to configure my persistence layer properties as shown below(I have skipped code for brevity):
PersistenceConfig.java
#PropertySources({
#PropertySource(value= "classpath:/com/hp/properties/persistence/mysqldb.properties"),
#PropertySource(value = "classpath:/com/hp/properties/persistence/hibernate.properties")})
public class PersistenceConfig {
#Autowired
Environment env;
#Bean
public LocalContainerEntityManagerFactoryBean entityManagerFactory(){
LocalContainerEntityManagerFactoryBean em = new LocalContainerEntityManagerFactoryBean();
em.setDataSource(dataSource());
em.setPackagesToScan(new String[] {"com.hp.model.entity"});
JpaVendorAdapter vendorAdapter = new HibernateJpaVendorAdapter();
em.setJpaVendorAdapter(vendorAdapter);
em.setJpaProperties(hibernateProperties());
return em;
}
private Properties hibernateProperties(){
Properties properties = new Properties();
properties.setProperty("hibernate.dialect", env.getRequiredProperty("hibernate.dialect.mysql"));
properties.setProperty("hibernate.show_sql", env.getRequiredProperty("hibernate.showsql"));
properties.setProperty("hibernate.format_sql", env.getRequiredProperty("hibernate.formatsql"));
return properties;
}
}
I am creating my test classes using Spring's WebApplicationContext as shown below:
#RunWith(SpringJUnit4ClassRunner.class)
#ContextConfiguration(classes={ApplicationConfig.class})
#WebAppConfiguration
#TestPropertySource(value = {"classpath:/com/hp/properties/persistence/mysqldb.properties",
"classpath:/com/hp/properties/persistence/hibernate.properties"})
public class PatientServiceTest {
MockMvc mockMvc;
#Autowired
WebApplicationContext webApplicationContext;
#Before
public void setUp(){
mockMvc = MockMvcBuilders.webAppContextSetup(webApplicationContext).build();
}
#Test
public void testForDependentBeans(){
Assert.assertThat(webApplicationContext.containsBean("patientRepository"), Matchers.is(true));
}
}
But as I run the test I get an error about the intialization of PersistnceConfig as hibernate.properties is not found. I have also tried copying these files from src/main/java to src/test/java and add #TestPropertySource to explicitly provide the properties file. Yet I am getting the same error. Below is the stack trace if it helps.
Also, how can I load different properties file specific to test environment in Spring integeration testing than used by my production.

Contiperf2 not working with my existing JUnit test case

For performance testing, I am trying to use Contiperf http://databene.org/contiperf with my JUnit testcases
With independent test class contiperf is working.
but when I using Contiperf with my existing passing test case, its not working.
import org.databene.contiperf.junit.ContiPerfRule;
import org.databene.contiperf.junit.ContiPerfSuiteRunner;
import org.junit.Rule;
public class TU_XSL_OrderDlt extends TranslatorUtls {
#Rule
public ContiPerfRule i = new ContiPerfRule();
#Test
#PerfTest(invocations = 1, threads = 1)
public void testNormalTranslation() throws Exception {
assertTranslation("testdata/OrderDeltInput.xml", "testdata/OrderDltOutput.xml");
}
}
Following exception I get:
java.lang.RuntimeException: java.lang.NoSuchFieldException: fNext

JUnit 4.12 applies that field renaming, the PR to fix it was sent a long time ago.
I suggest you use version 2.4.3 that has the change and is already on maven central.
Please note that the dependency group has changed, but other than changing the imports the code should remain the same.
