CXF dependency error on Websphere Portal 8.5

So I have to deploy portlet with a web service client using CXF into Websphere Portal 8.5.
When I deploy, I'm getting a MethodNotFound exception.
According to many Google searches, this has to be fixed changing the server configuration to PARENT LAST, in order for the portal to use the application's Maven dependencies before trying to use Websphere's.
The dependency error is gone, but now I get the following:

The root exception gives me no information about what is wrong about my dependencies.
I know that the problem is not in my server because we deployed another portlet which also uses CFX's client and it works (I tried to use that project's POM as a base, but ultimately, I get the same exception).
I have checked the dependency tree and I don't see any conflict in the dependencies. The application was working correctly, but using the PARENT FIRST configuration.
Do you have any idea on how can I fix this exception?

The problem was on my Spring version. I had another POM which is parent to my Websphere project, and that POM had different Spring versions.

Finally I've got it. I should not use any persistence.xml at all. When I do not use it, I got this error:
HTTP Status 500 -
org.apache.openjpa.persistence.ArgumentException: A JDBC Driver or
DataSource class name must be specified in the ConnectionDriverName
property. Available properties in configuration are
"org.apache.openjpa.jdbc.conf.JDBCConfigurationImpl#fdaf18ee".
openjpa conflicts with existing JPA of my objectdb.jar.
To avoid it, I removed openjpa-asm-shaded-X.X.X.jar from my TomEE/lib folder.

Netbeans could still create persistance.xml for you which will break everything.
if you still not successful and use NetBeans, clear its cache, in C:\Users\YOURNAME\AppData\Local\NetBeans\Cache
You may look in YOURPROJECT\nbproject\project.properties to see some old malformed settings you played around and leaved as it is.

How to configure jndi in tomcat regarding my errors?

I have searched on google and stackoverflow for this problem there are several questions but not resulting to particular solution and reason behind the cause. I am doing a project in JSF with context for my project defined in C:\apache-tomcat-6.0.32\conf\Catalina\localhost\.

The configuration works fine if I run tomcat from outside eclipse but fails when ran from inside eclipse. What might be the cause?

This NPE is clearly a bug in the Sun JDBC ODBC bridge driver. It should have handled it more gracefully or have thrown a more self-explaining exception.
But it is at its own a bigger problem that the Tomcat datasource manager is using the Sun JDBC ODBC bridge driver instead of the MySQL JDBC driver which you specified in the driverClassName of the <Resource>! This means that the <Resource> is not correctly been found/interpreted by Tomcat at all. You should be placing the context.xml file in the /META-INF folder of your webapp. Or you should be putting the <Resource> inside the <Context> of the tomcat/conf/context.xml file.

jndi database connection with jpa and eclipselink

I try to setup a database connection in java with JNDI in combination with eclipseLink/JPA on Tomcat 5.5. I already configured the JNDI resource in web.xml and context.xml.
The db connection works with JNDI without using JPA and eclipseLink.

I fix it by adding a property "javax.persistence.nonJtaDataSource" with the same value as the element non-jta-data-source

I think you need to code a workaround for the javax.naming.NamingException: This context must be accessed throught a java: URL exception as detailed at http://wiki.eclipse.org/EclipseLink/Examples/JPA/Tomcat_Web_Tutorial#Session_Customizer

Year 2015 actualisation: I not sure Eclipselink SessionCustomizer is required. In my test all work without (Tomcat 7.x, Java 7.x, Eclipselink 2.4.x).
Some older materials suggest specific problem with Tomcat 5/6 and special way to resolve it.

This just means that either the URL is wrong or that the desired driver is not present in the current runtime classpath. Since the URL looks fine as per the PostgreSQL JDBC documentation, it'll be that the driver is missing in the current runtime classpath.
So, to fix this problem, you need put the JDBC driver JAR file in the webapp's runtime classpath. The /WEB-INF/lib is one of the folders which is covered by the webapp's default runtime classpath. Just drop the PostgreSQL JDBC driver JAR file in there and redeploy.

Make sure you can connect to the database you are connected to, that the configuration is correct, that you do not have network issues preventing the connection, etc.

I didn't look at your config file, but I'm assuming it configured at least reasonably well since the stack trace indicates that it is trying to connect to a postgres database at a localhost JDBC url.
It looks like the big problem is that it can't find the postgres JDBC driver:

Verify that you have the jar for your database driver in classpath.
Verify if the driver class name is correct.
Verify if the connection.url is correct.
I got the same error. Only difference being, I am using Oracle 11g. I had ojdbc14.jar in classpath , driver class name was correct but connection.url property was wrong.
The correct format in case of Oracle 11g is
jdbc:oracle:thin:#localhost:1521:global_dsn_name
