I have configured two persistent units with the entity managers set up as show below:
<bean id="liveEntityManagerFactory"
class="org.springframework.orm.jpa.LocalContainerEntityManagerFactoryBean"
p:dataSource-ref="LiveDataSource">
<property name="persistenceUnitName" value="LivePersistenceUnit" />
</bean>
<bean id="archiveEntityManagerFactory"
class="org.springframework.orm.jpa.LocalContainerEntityManagerFactoryBean"
p:dataSource-ref="ArchiveDataSource">
<property name="persistenceUnitName" value="ArchivePersistenceUnit" />
</bean>
I then configured the transaction managers as
<bean id="LiveTransactionManager"
class="org.springframework.orm.jpa.JpaTransactionManager"
p:entityManagerFactory-ref="liveEntityManagerFactory"/>
<bean id="ArchiveTransactionManager"
class="org.springframework.orm.jpa.JpaTransactionManager"
p:entityManagerFactory-ref="archiveEntityManagerFactory"/>
I originally had just one configured and it was called "transactionManager". Addint an additional persistent unit seems to generate an error.
One thing i dont understand, if i configured two persistent units (each for a separate database) do i also need to configure an individual entity manager and a transaction manager for each datasource?
The error that i get is shown below: (I have search all file and i cant find anywhere where there is a reference for "transactionManager")

I am using Spring with Jpa/Hibernate.
Thanks
The default value for the transaction-manager attribute is transaction-manager. In your case, you should specify which transaction manager you want to use per method or service like this:
#Service
#Transactional(value="LiveTransactionManager")
class someClass...
or
#Transactional(value="ArchiveTransactionManager")
public void someMethod
Actually, there is a way to use named TransactionManager with Spring Data JPA. This works for me:
<bean id="myTransactionManager" class="org.springframework.orm.jpa.JpaTransactionManager">
<property name="entityManagerFactory" ref="myEntityManagerFactory" />
</bean>
<tx:annotation-driven transaction-manager="myTransactionManager"/>
<jpa:repositories base-package="com.xxx.yyy" entity-manager-factory-ref="myEntityManagerFactory" transaction-manager-ref="myTransactionManager">
</jpa:repositories>
I use java configuration and specifying the transactionManagerRef was solution for me:
#Configuration
#EnableTransactionManagement
#EnableJpaRepositories(
entityManagerFactoryRef = "myCustomEntityManagerFactory",
basePackages = {"ua.demitt.other.path.to.repos"},
transactionManagerRef = "myCustomTransactionManager" )
In your #Configuration file, if this is your dataSource:
#Bean(name = "dataSource")
public DataSource getDataSource() {
return DataSourceBuilder
.create()
.username(username)
.password(password)
.url(url)
.build();
}
this would be your transaction manager bean:
#Bean(name = "DataSourceTransactionManager")
public DataSourceTransactionManager getDataSourceTransactionManager() {
return new DataSourceTransactionManager(getDataSource());
}
Then annotate the service method you would like to be transactional:
#Transactional(transactionManager = "DataSourceTransactionManager", timeout = 60, rollbackFor = { Exception.class})

I am implementing a feature that returns top record from the database in an existing application used in weather monitoring. I am using Spring, Hibernate, Spring Data JPA.
Spring version is 4.1.1 RELEASE. Here's the minimal example:
Reading entity:
#Entity
public class Reading {
#Id
#GeneratedValue
private Long id;
private Date time;
private double temperature;
//getters, setters
}
ReadingController:
#Controller
#RequestMapping("/reading")
public class ReadingController {
#Autowired
private ReadingDao readingDao;
//controller logic
}
The DAO I am using:
public interface ReadingDao extends CrudRepository<Reading, Long>{
Reading findTopByOrderByTemperatureDesc();
//other methods
}
I have also configured Spring to look for components in the mvc-dispatcher-servlet.xml file:
<context:component-scan base-package="org.mycompany"/>
<mvc:annotation-driven/>
The problem: adding the findTopByOrderByTemperatureDesc() method to the ReadingDao causes a NullPointerException while autowiring the ReadingDao in ReadingController.
According to the Spring Data JPA documentation (chapter 3.4.5) the method should work.
Also, the name of the method seems to be correct (see here). I tried with findTopOrderByTemperatureDesc, and findTopByTemperatureDesc, but got No property desc found for type double.
Stacktrace:

Note that the application is working properly when that method is not declared, and there are no problems during autowiring.
How to solve this problem? Or how to implement the same feature in some other way?
EDIT: I also have
<jpa:repositories base-package="org.mycompany.dao"/>
<bean id="transactionManager" class="org.springframework.orm.jpa.JpaTransactionManager">
<property name="entityManagerFactory" ref="entityManagerFactory" />
</bean>
in Datasource.xml file that configures the database and repositories.
EDIT2: I also changed double to Double as suggested, but that did not change anything.
<jpa:repositories base-package="com.company.product.repository" entity-manager-factory-ref="entityManagerFactory" transaction-manager-ref="transactionManager" />
Or
#EnableJpaRepositories(basePackages = "com.company.product.repository", entityManagerFactoryRef = "entityManager", transactionManagerRef = "transactionManager")
You must configure the jpa repositories, and this package should contain all your repo classes. In your case the ReadingDao should be placed in the repo package example (com.company.product.repository)
<context:component-scan base-package="org.mycompany"/>
<jpa:repositories base-package="com.company.product.repository" entity-manager-factory-ref="entityManagerFactory" transaction-manager-ref="transactionManager" />
<mvc:annotation-driven/>

I have a project using Tiles3 and this is how I configured it:
<!-- Tiles -->
<bean id="tilesViewResolver"
class="org.springframework.web.servlet.view.UrlBasedViewResolver">
<property name="viewClass"
value="org.springframework.web.servlet.view.tiles3.TilesView" />
</bean>
<bean id="tilesConfigurer"
class="org.springframework.web.servlet.view.tiles3.TilesConfigurer">
<property name="definitions">
<list>
<value>/WEB-INF/tiles/tiles-definitions.xml</value>
</list>
</property>
</bean>
And in your pom.xml:
<dependency>
<groupId>org.apache.tiles</groupId>
<artifactId>tiles-extras</artifactId>
<version>3.0.5</version>
</dependency>
I am trying to run a junit test case for testing whether the applicationcontext is initialized and it throws the following error. Is it something related to the xml or the java version. How do I fix this?

You can add this to your VM Arguments in eclipse
-Djavax.xml.parsers.DocumentBuilderFactory=com.sun.org.apache.xerces.internal.jaxp.DocumentBuilderFactoryImpl
-Djavax.xml.parsers.SAXParserFactory=com.sun.org.apache.xerces.internal.jaxp.SAXParserFactoryImpl
Works for me
FIXED!
It is because the Xerces parser is not used for parsing the context xml file. Sometimes, the ide does not understand Maven well. So, explicitly mention the dependency in the pom.xml file as
<dependency>
<groupId>xerces</groupId>
<artifactId>xerces</artifactId>
</dependency>
for the specific project.

this is my c3p00l configaration
<bean id="dataSource" class="com.mchange.v2.c3p0.ComboPooledDataSource" destroy-method="close">
<!-- <bean id="dataSource" class="org.apache.commons.dbcp.BasicDataSource" destroy-method="close">

<property name="jdbcUrl"><value>${jdbc.url}</value></property>
<property name="user"><value>${jdbc.username}</value></property>
<property name="password"><value>${jdbc.password}</value></property>
</bean>
how can i resolve this issue ,is this issue have any thing related to c3pool .i am using c3pool with default values,do i need to specify any c3pool properties
Did you try this one?
<bean id="dataSource" class="com.mchange.v2.c3p0.ComboPooledDataSource" destroy-method="close">
<property name="driverClass"><value>${jdbc.driverClassName}</value></property>
<property name="jdbcUrl"><value>${jdbc.url}</value></property>
<property name="user"><value>${jdbc.username}</value></property>
<property name="password"><value>${jdbc.password}</value></property>
<property name="validationQuery" value="SELECT 1"/>
<property name="testOnBorrow" value="true"/>
</bean>
This can designate a connection to the db issue (maybe stale connection like described Here
In general since there is no much information here besides the exception itself, I would just place a breakpoint at the JDBCTransaction class and see why it fails.
Hope this helps
I was getting this error using the following configuration:
#PersistenceContext(type=PersistenceContextType.EXTENDED)
#Autowired
private EntityManager entityManager;
I didn't realize that PersistenceContextType.EXTENDED wasn't thread safe. I believe the error must have been caused by multiple users accessing the application and the threads not being managed safely. When I changed my configuration to the following, deleting the PersistenceContextType.EXTENDED part:
#PersistenceContext
#Autowired
private EntityManager entityManager;
... then the error stopped happening for me.
My dao class com.myapp.dao.hibernate.XyzDaoImpl is annotated with #Repository
#Repository
public class UserDaoImpl extends GenericDaoJpa implements UserDao {
...
#Override
public void saveUser(User user) throws Exception{
entityManager.persist(user);
}
...
}
My app-data.xml is as follow:
<bean id="dataSource" class="org.apache.commons.dbcp.BasicDataSource">
<property name="driverClassName" value="${db.driver}" />
<property name="url" value="${db.url}" />
<property name="username" value="${db.username}" />
<property name="password" value="${db.password}" />
<property name="initialSize" value="5" />
<property name="maxActive" value="0" />
</bean>
<!-- JPA Entity Manager Factory -->

</bean>

<context:component-scan base-package="com.myapp.dao.hibernate" />

Now, in my jUnit test method, I deliberately insert a duplicate object and I got javax.persistence.PersistenceException instead of a spring exception.
#Test public void testSaveUser() {
String login = "duplicateLogin";
User user = new User();
user.setLogin(login);
user.setPasswd("pass");
InformationBean rep = ms.saveUser(user);
assertEquals(Constants.REPLY_403, rep);
System.out.println("user was not saved "+user);
}

EDIT1: After removing the throws Exception from the saveUser() DAO method, it seems that Spring exception translation is working. My service method catchs DataIntegrityViolationException and return normally. However, the test method doesn't get the return but instead get an exception: TransactionSystemException. How can I avoid such unwanted exception that breaks everything?
Edit2:
Spring exception translation was working fine, the problem comes from JPA/EntityManager.
See the complete story and how I managed to solve it: http://tinyurl.com/439dmul
Regarding your latter question about TransactionSystemException: this exception was thrown when exiting #Transactional method in order to indicate that transaction had been rolled back.
If you want to reliably catch constraint violations, you need to do it around transaction, not inside it. For example, by using programmatic transaction demarcation inside saveUser() method instead of #Transactional, or by adding try-catch clause to the top-level method.
