I am working on a java web application using struts that someone else wrote and I was getting errors about an import that was missing in some files so I looked around the project folders and found the file among the jsp files which seemed strange. So, I copied the file into the relevant package and the errors went away. When I went to run the program again on Tomcat I got this error:
org.apache.jasper.JasperException: /index.jsp(3,55) File "/WEB-INF/struts-html.tld" not found

"/WEB-INF/struts-html.tld" still exists and hasn't been changed or moved. I decided to delete the file I moved because the program still worked without it but I still get the error and I'm not sure how I could fix this.
Edit:
So I decided to refresh the webpage and a different error showed up:

The tld (tag library) files and their locations are specified in the web.xml file.
If you need new tlds, the jsp files which are using these tlds will look first in the web.xml to find info and location of the file.
In your web.xml you need to place taglib definitions right after welcome-page definitions. It worked for me.

i am trying to create a dynamic web app in Eclipse (Tomcat v7). The problem is that when i run my webapp index.jsp cannot be accessed. I can Access every other .jsp, but the index.jsp not.The next problem of course is ´that index.jsp cannot be loaded at the start of the app. I get the following message:

I have tried everything (the last option was to create a index.html and redirect it to the index.jsp but it didn't work). I have also tried to copy index.jsp in every folder of the app but it also didn't work.
Here is my web.xml
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<web-app xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee" xsi:schemaLocation="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee/web-app_3_0.xsd" id="WebApp_ID" version="3.0">
<display-name>Test_WebApp_1</display-name>
<welcome-file-list>
<welcome-file>index.jsp</welcome-file>
</welcome-file-list>
</web-app>
I have also searched on Google, and there where some cases where the index.jsp was not loading, but the solutions didn't help me.
Does anybode has some idea ? Could this be something with Apache ? I have tried to run Version 6.0 but i could not start it because it didn't support some of the modules used in my app.
So, i am happy for any Information
Kinde regards
Semir
i have tried something else. I have exported my app as a war and deployed it on Apache. When i run my app right from Apache it works fine, and the index.jsp is being loaded. So i assume it is something in eclipse
edit : i solved it by installing the jdk develpment kit and Setting the JAVA_HOME Variable
thanks für the answers
Do you work under a sensitive case OS?
Because your error is: org/apache/jsp/index_jsp (wrong name: org/apache/jsp/Index_jsp
with an uppercase on Index_jsp.
Check your UR, check your file name...

I have googled it but all i could find was that similar problems were caused by duplicates in classpath but i have looked very closely and i dont think their are any duplicates in my classpath. (may be i am wrong.) Heres a screen shot of jars in my classpath
i am stuck, any help will be greatly appreciated
EDIT: Search for org.hibernate.SessionFactory gives
The problem is that you have hibernate-core-4.0.0.Final.jar in your classpath, but Spring 3.1 uses hibernate-core-3.6.0.Final.jar (see here Spring 3.1 artifact and dependencies).
Remove Hibernate 4.0 and put Hibernate 3.6 instead in your classpath.
BTW, there might some more such miss matches. It's better to use maven to take care of dependencies.
EDIT - some more details
In Hibernate 3.6 the interface Session was in package org.hibernate.classic whereas in Hibernate 4.0 it was moved to the package org.hibernate.
In Hibernate 3.6 the SessionFactory.openSession no longer returns an org.hibernate.classic.Session, rather it returns an org.hibernate.Session. This is a refactor that breaks client code...
If you are using Eclipse as IDE and maven as a build tool, try to check build path entries. Sometimes, old JARs are added as classpath entries which are not overridden by maven clean or update.
You would need to remove those entries.
Refer below image
Above entries should not be present in build path, since they are not overridden by maven clean.
I was having similar kind of trouble; used a different version of apache-camel-extra helped resolving the problem
compile group: 'org.apache-extras.camel-extra', name: 'camel-hibernate', version: '2.18.0'
Our application setup
gradle
apache-camel
spring
hibernate
spring-jta and atomikos
This error is caused by transitive dependency of maven managed projects. Child will be using a particular version of an artefact but the parent would fetch a later version. In my case, I had to use
<dependencies>
<dependency>
<groupId>org.hibernate</groupId>
<artifactId>hibernate-core</artifactId>
<version>4.3.11.Final</version>
</dependency>
</dependencies>
In the parent pom (i.e, I have specified the dependency version again in parent pom) to avoid this conflict.
I have servlet that does the following:
public class LoginServlet extends HttpServlet {

PrintWriter out = response.getWriter();

request.getAttribute("password");
String username = request.getParameter("username");
String password = request.getParameter("password");

Tomcat version and JDK / JRE version would be helpful.
It looks like your webapp is missing some required jars from WEB-INF/lib; in particular the jaxrpc jar.
The server tells you that you're missing a library, the one that contains javax.xml.rpc.ServiceException.
However, the code you gave don't seem to use this class, so I think your problem isn't related to your Servlet.
Looks to me as though somewhere along the line there's an Apache Axis dependency which needs to be addressed in your app's build path. Chances are, this is in the error handling for your JAXRPC calls.
The reason why you're getting the 2nd exception:
java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError:
org/apache/axis/AxisFault
It's because you've included javax.xml.rpc.ServiceException. I'm assuming you're using Axis else you're wouldn't be getting AxisFault. There are some jars that are missing.
If you want AxisFault to disappear, copy the axis.jar (assuming you're running the old axis 1) to the WEB-INF/lib folder.
sorry for the late reply..this may help someone in future..
java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: javax.xml.rpc.ServiceException
It says it cant found the javax.xml.rpc jar.
Please add the dependency to your POM file.
<dependency>
<groupId> javax.xml.rpc </groupId>
<artifactId> javax.xml.rpc-api </artifactId>
<version> 1.1.1 </version>
</dependency>
I am getting the following error when I am trying to run my J2EE project. The same project was working before and I started getting this exception now. I am sure that all class are there along with their mapping files.
If I remove mapping of jobtitle from my hibernate.cfg.xml in the project, it is running.
java.lang.ExceptionInInitializerError

means you do indicate a mapping in your hibernate.cfg.xml, but a mapping to a class which is not in the classpath of the j2ee project.
