I want to debug a JNLP application. I am using the below to launch it.
javaws -verbose -J-Xdebug -J-Xnoagent -J-Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_socket,server=n,suspend=y,address=8989 myjnlp.jnlp
I think due to a "double launch" described here, a new VM is launched, which is not taking my debug parameters.
I am able to connect to the first VM(since its in suspend=y), but within seconds that application ends, and a new instance of java is launched and its not in debug.
This is what i see in the console (personal info removed with ...)

I just update my Mac OS to Catalina version and my Hybris server stopped turning on. So on command ./hybrisserver.sh start I get this

Waiting for hybrisPlatform on Tomcat..................
WARNING: hybrisPlatform on Tomcat may have failed to start.
I had to allow the wrapper-macosx-universal-64 and some other libs in Systemsettings > Security > General while starting the Hybris Server.
Remove the app (and all the necesary side apps) from Mac OS quarantine:
xattr -d com.apple.quarantine wrapper-macosx-universal-64
You can find the blocked wrapper under /bin/platform/tomcat/bin
If you get an error saying that the wrapper-macosx-universal-64 or libwrapper-macosx-universal-64.jnilib cannot be opened because the developer cannot be verified, proceed as follows:
Go to system preferences security and privacy
Click the General tab.
In the list, select the executable that you tried to run, and unblock it.
Run the command again.
to fix it, u need new tomcat in bin/platform. I just create new hybris project with .zip and copy tomcat folder to my hybris project and after some confirming about security in Mac OS setting, it works
It's probably could happen as a result that wrapper-macosx-universal-64 was deleted by macOS during a security check.
You can copy the file from the original path in hybris zip archive -
hybris-dir/bin/platform/tomcat/wrapper-macosx-universal-64
to your installation and follow the actions related to macos developers security check to allow starting the tomcat
I am trying to create a windows service for Apache tomcat 7.0.45.
( in windows version 7)
I executed this :
C:/tomcat7/bin> service install Mytomcat7
Windows service has been created. but it wont start and throws "specific server error code 4".
Can you please help with the steps to create windows service.
I had the same problem!
Found out, that the service.bat didn't configure the service the right way. If you enable the logging from your service starter:
Then you'll see in your loggs something like:
[2014-02-19 16:40:35] [error] ( javajni.c:863 ) [ 2636] FindClass org/apache/catalina/startup/Bootstrap failed
[2014-02-19 16:40:35] [debug] ( javajni.c:964 ) [ 2636] Java Worker thread finished org/apache/catalina/startup/Bootstrap:main with status=3
[2014-02-19 16:40:35] [error] ( prunsrv.c:1183) [ 5000] Failed to start Java
[2014-02-19 16:40:35] [error] ( prunsrv.c:1536) [ 5000] ServiceStart returned 4
You'll notice that there is some classpath problem with the starter. In fact that's the problem! Your service.bat didn't configure the service the right way:
Note: You can also choose "Use default" above "Java Virtual Machine" to use whatever JVM is defined in JAVA_HOME
You'll need to set the classpath correctly:
c:\webclient\apache-tomcat\bin\tomcat-juli.jar;c:\webclient\apache-tomcat\bin\tomcat-juli.jar;c:\webclient\apache-tomcat\bin\bootstrap.jar
In my case i "installed" tomcat at: c:\webclient\apache-tomcat replace that part with yours. In my case not even the Java VM was set.. I'm not shure whether this is a problem with the current versions of tomcat (and it's service.bat), or with some sort of permission problem on the windows server itself..
To solve this error perform the following steps:
Run the tomcat7w.exe monitor application found in <TOMCAT_HOME>/bin.Tomcat7w is a GUI application for monitoring and configuring Tomcat services. If you named your service Mytomcat7 you will need to rename this file to Mytomcat7.exe before running it
In the "Startup" tab change the value of "Mode" from jvm to Java
Do the same in the "Shutdown" tab
The easiest way to setup a tomcat Windows service is to use the Tomcat Windows Service Installer found on the same page as tomcat downloads.
http://tomcat.apache.org/download-70.cgi
However, if you are unable to use this installer. Then you can as you have try the above. The service created 'Mytomcat7' can be managed by the tomcat7w.exe file, after you rename it to 'Mytomcat7w.exe'.
Run the renamed file and you will be able to see all options for the service. The error you are seeing is likely related to an invalid JVM location or JVM mode not set to auto.
Details of settings found here:
http://tomcat.apache.org/tomcat-7.0-doc/windows-service-howto.html
I would just use the installer, it will make your life easier.
http://mirror.ox.ac.uk/sites/rsync.apache.org/tomcat/tomcat-7/v7.0.50/bin/apache-tomcat-7.0.50.exe
We have a custom service that we install with our application. The only problem is that after it is installed, it will not start, generating the error above. I have tried to diagnose what the problem is, but can't seem to find any useful information as to why it is quitting. I have tried the same service on a non "R2" 2008 server, and manual it worked fine.
service simple java file running using batch file. Deamon service.
Has anyone had any experience troubleshooting this type of problem, where there are so few clues?
Goto:
Registry-> HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE-> System-> CurrentControlSet-> Services.
Find the concerned service & delete it. Close regedit. Reboot the PC & Re-install the concerned service. Now the error should be gone.
This is a problem related permission.
Make sure that the current user has access to the folder which contains installation files.
I resolved the problem.This is for EAServer Windows Service
Resolution is -->
Open Regedit in Run prompt
Under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\EAServer
In parameters, give SERVERNAME entry as EAServer.
[It is sometime overwritten with Envirnoment variable : Path value]
This error message appears if the Windows service launcher has quit immediately after being started.
This problem usually happens because the license key has not been correctly deployed(license.txt file in the license folder).
If service is not strtign with correct key, just put incorrect key and try to start. Once started, place the correct key, it will work.
I had this error, I looked into a log file C:\...\mysql\data\VM-IIS-Server.err and found this

The first line says "unable to create temporary file", it sounds like "insufficient privileges", first I tried to give access to mysql folder for my current user - no effect, then after some wandering around I came up to control panel->Administration->Services->Right Clicked MysqlService->Properties->Log On, switched to "This account", entered my username/password, clicked OK, and it woked!
In my case the error 1067 was caused with a specific version of Tomcat 7.0.96 32-bit in combination with AdoptOpenJDK. Spent two hours on it, un-installing, re-installing and trying different Java settings but Tomcat would not start. See...
ASF Bugzilla – Bug 63625
seems to point at the issue though they refer to seeing a different error.
I tried 7.0.99 32-bit and it started straight away with the same AdoptOpenJDK 32-bit binary install.
I solved this issue using Monitor Tomcat application. I ran it and after a few seconds its icon appeared in my system tray. I right clicked on the icon and clicked the start button and after a few seconds Apache Tomcat started.
I am using play framework 2.1.0, I have created fresh project using command play new myfirstapp, then I selected 2 option to create simple java project and thus it created project
Now when I start play by command play run I get following output
C:\development\application\firstApp\helloworld>play run

Play will check file changes for each request, so expect degraded reloading performace.

It has become bottle neck for me to go further, kindly help me out with this problem.
Some more information about my workstation
Its windows 8 64 bit
JDK 7
You should try to put Play in a path without space (C:\development\playframework).
Play2 + windows + spaces are not good friends ;)
Open IIS by going to the start menu and writing IIS (INTERNET INFORMATION SERVICE), stop the service and then refresh the page (F5).
I created a Java desktop-application (using Swing) and am now trying to make it work by starting it from the net using JNLP. The application works fine when I start it from the terminal, but as soon as I launch it from JNLP, it does not close. I have to manually kill the process every time.
I read that there might be a problem if my JFrame uses DISPOSE_ON_CLOSE as the default close-operation, but it doesn't. It uses DO_NOTHING_ON_CLOSE (implicitly). Also, I'm explicitly calling System.exit(0) after releasing all my objects:
f = new JFrame("Pacman");
f.addWindowListener(new WindowAdapter() {
#Override
public void windowClosing(WindowEvent e) {
// Terminate the Game-loop:
GameLoop.INSTANCE.stopLoop();
// Close the application:
System.exit(0);
}
});
I guess that there might be an exception thrown when I close the application, but I can't find a way to get the console-output (e.g. the Stack-Trace) of a running application started with JNLP. Here's what I tried:
Start javaws with the debugging parameters and connect with jconsole (works but I can't find any exception- or console-ouput).
Start javaws with the debugging parameters and attach IntelliJ debugger to it (also works but does not give me any output)
So, how can I start the application with JNLP and get the output (written to the default out- and error-streams), as if I would do with a normal desktop application?
Solution #1 - Enable Java Console, and look for exceptions.
You can do it via Java Control Panel. Switch to Advanced tab, and in the Java Console make sure Show console is selected.
Then, run your application and monitor the console for exceptions. Fix the exception.
Solution #2 - Debug your running application (properly).
Start the Web Start app like this (for Java 1.6 and newer):
javaws -verbose -J-Xdebug -J-Xnoagent -J-Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_socket,server=n,suspend=y,address=8123 http://myserver.com/path/to/myapp.jnlp
If using earlier java versions (1.4.2, 1.5) set the environment variable, like this:
set JAVAWS_VM_ARGS="-Xdebug -Xnoagent -Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_socket,server=n,suspend=y,address=8123"
and run the app via:
javaws http://myserver.com/path/to/myapp.jnlp
When the app runs:
Attach a debugger (Eclipse will do - use Run => Debug Configurations => Remote Java Application, and in Connection Properties panel enter the port passed in the parameters to javaws (in this case: 8123).
Set a breakpoint inside your windowClosing method.
Try to close your application - Eclipse should break the execution on your breakpoint
Step into the GameLoop.INSTANCE.stopLoop() method to see where/when it hangs.
Don't expect to see a solutions in the console, just step through the code with a debugger - if the application hangs, it will show you where.
There are times when even the console doesn't show anything, for example when there is a problem with the TLS/SSL handshake (i.e. a close_notify or handshake_failure). In these cases you need to do the following:
Enable the Java logs and tracing in the Java Control Panel > Advanced.
Enable parameters for debugging Java & launching the JNLP, there are two ways you can do it:
2.a. Download the JNLP file and execute it from command line (the SET command is not required in this particular case).
set JAVA_TOOL_OPTIONS=-Djavax.net.debug=all
javaws -wait jnlp.jnlp
2.b. Add arguments (i.e. -Djavax.net.debug=all) for the JVM in the Java Control Panel > Java > View (this is not required in this particular), and launch the JNLP file from browser:
The logs and traces are located in the log directory from the Java Deployment Home from where I paste these locations:
a. Windows XP: %HOME%\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment
b. Windows 7/Vista: %APPDATA%\..\LocalLow\Sun\Java\Deployment
c. Linux/Solaris: %HOME%/.java/deployment
This answer is an alternative to npe answer to enable the remote debug (Windows).
Go to Control Panel;
Click on Java, to open Java Control Panel;
Inside of Java Control Panel, go to Java tab, and click "View";
This will open a window with installed java versions. On runtime parameters put "-Xdebug -Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_socket,address=8123,server=y,suspend=n" (if you want to debug when application is starting, change to "suspend" to "y", that will make the application stop until an editor connect remotely);
Afer that, configure you editor to debug remotely to the configured port (localhost:8123 in this case).
