ClassNotFoundException FreeMarkerConfigurationFactory - java

I have a big web application that uses FreeMarker. When I recently updated to Spring 3.2.4 and ran the web app via jetty or tomcat I get the following exception: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: org.springframework.ui.freemarker.FreeMarkerConfigurationFactory.
I know that Spring-webmvc has the FreeMarkerConfigurationFactory class in it so I have the dependency included in my POM. I do not know why I´m getting the exception. I have included my POM and my spring servlet.

I had to add the spring-context-support JAR to my project for it to work. Here's the Maven pom.xml entry:
<dependency>
<groupId>org.springframework</groupId>
<artifactId>spring-context-support</artifactId>
<version>3.2.4.RELEASE</version>
</dependency>

Can anyone help me?
your spring core is 4.0.6.RELEASE while spring security 4.2.2.RELEASE
this means that spring-security sees spring core, asks spring-core.jar for class, but this class is not there yet (or anymore) because versions are different. this causes ClassNotFoundException
spring security core requires version of spring-core at least 4.3.5.RELEASE
the solution is to unify versions and fix them, one by one for those that are missing.
to find what version you need, search (google it) for maven %artifact_id%, for example 'maven spring-security-core', find the artifact you need and scroll down to required dependencies. check that those that you include are version required or higher (usually higher versions are more-or-less compatible with previous, but lower versions rarely compatible with higher ones.
link to spring-security-core in maven repository: https://mvnrepository.com/artifact/org.springframework.security/spring-security-web/4.2.2.RELEASE
When you're using maven you don't have to put libraries to your WEB-INF/lib manually.
What you actually need to do is define your project packaging type as war:
<packaging>war</packaging>
What it will do is when you run mvn package it will gather all your dependencies from your pom.xml and put it where they need to be in the target folder.
In your case you will find your packaged deployable files in target/emusicstore-1.0-SNAPSHOT folder which you can symlink, or reference in your tomcat application descriptor.

You are mixing Spring versions and you are mixing Spring Security Versions (3.1.3 and 3.1.4), Spring Security 3.1 has a dependency on Spring 3.0 whereas you are trying to use 3.1. Spring WS 2.1 depends on Spring 3.2... So you have a whole mixture going on.
I would suggest upgrading to Spring 3.2.4 (the latest version) and use a properties element to determine the version instead of specifing it for each dependency. Next to that I also suggest using <dependencyManagement /> tag to force dependencies on a certain version. And finally (or maybe firstly) I suggest the use of the maven-enforcer-plugin with a dependency convergence rule, this will break the build if there are conflicting versions of certain dependencies.

When you use this you can ommit the version number in de <dependencies /> section.
This xml excludes commons-logging because we don't use that we use SLF4J with the jcl-over-slf4j wrapper jar. If you want to use commons-logging simply remove the exclusions and rule from the enforcer plugin.

You have a small typo in your bean.xml file.
Change value="jdbc:mysql//localhost:3306/test" to value="jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/test"

response code 500 when returning an object using #ResponseBody

I'm fairly new to spring Restful programming The requirement to use the controller method as a rest service, so I'm trying to return an object in a JSON format, but for some reason I'm getting a response code as 500 with no errors and exceptions in log files.
But it is successfully working if I the return type is of a string rather an object
I'm using the jackson dependencies and I'm configuring in context file and in a assumption that converts the object to json format and puts in the response body on using #ResponseBody annotation
//Response code 500 If I return an object
#RequestMapping(value = "/donorSummary", method = RequestMethod.GET,produces = "application/json")
#PreAuthorize("hasRole('"+PermissionConstants.VIEW_DONOR+"')")
public #ResponseBody Donor donorSummaryGenerator(HttpServletRequest request, Model model,HttpServletResponse response,
#RequestParam(value = "donorId", required = false) Long donorId) {
//some code here
return donorObject;
}
//Working if I return a string
#RequestMapping(value = "/donorSummary", method = RequestMethod.GET,produces = "application/json")
#PreAuthorize("hasRole('"+PermissionConstants.VIEW_DONOR+"')")
public #ResponseBody StringdonorSummaryGenerator(HttpServletRequest request, Model model,HttpServletResponse response,
#RequestParam(value = "donorId", required = false) Long donorId) {
//some oode here
return donorObject.toString();
}

Spring MVC converts data to/from JSON (and other formats, e.g. XML) using message converters (implementations of the HttpMessageConverter interface).
The <mvc:annotation-driven /> tag in your Spring configuration registers the JSON message converter (among other things that it is doing). The only other thing that you need to do to start using JSON in your web services is placing Jackson libraries on your classpath (you said that you have them already):
<dependency>
<groupId>com.fasterxml.jackson.core</groupId>
<artifactId>jackson-core</artifactId>
<version>2.3.0</version>
</dependency>
<dependency>
<groupId>com.fasterxml.jackson.core</groupId>
<artifactId>jackson-databind</artifactId>
<version>2.3.0</version>
</dependency>
Now, you also have some manual configuration for your JSON message converter:
<bean class="org.springframework.web.servlet.mvc.method.annotation.RequestMappingHandlerAdapter">
<property name="messageConverters">
<list>
<ref bean="jsonMessageConverter"/>
</list>
</property>
</bean>
<bean id="jsonMessageConverter" class="org.springframework.http.converter.json.MappingJackson2HttpMessageConverter">
</bean>
It is, probably, unnecessary. Try to remove it. The <mvc:annotation-driven /> tag is all you need to register the JSON message converter.
Http Status code 500 is for internal server error.If you are creating a rest web service why don't you return valid internet media type like JSON , XML or YAML. You can use jackson library to map your 'Donor' reference to json/xml and then return it from the server. At the client end you can again map the json/xml to Donor reference using jackson library.
Try this way:
Controller:
#Controller
#RequestMapping(value = "/testshare/service/location", produces = "application/json", consumes = "application/json")
public class LocationController {
#Autowired
private IStaticContentService staticContentService;
/**
* Service method to retrieve all <b>Locations</b> detail.
*
* #return response LocationResponse
* #throws ApplicationException
*/
#RequestMapping(value = "/getAllLocations", produces = "application/json", method = RequestMethod.POST, consumes = "application/json")
#ResponseBody
public LocationResponse loadAllLocations(#RequestBody BaseRequest request) {
LocationResponse response;
try {
response = staticContentService.getAllLocation();
response.header = ResponseBuilder.buildHeader(true);
} catch (ApplicationException e) {
response = ResponseBuilder.buildError(e, new LocationResponse());
} catch (RuntimeApplicationException e) {
response = ResponseBuilder.buildResponse(e, new LocationResponse());
} catch (Exception e) {
response = ResponseBuilder.buildResponse(e, new LocationResponse());
}
return response;
}
}
BaseRequest class:
import org.codehaus.jackson.annotate.JsonProperty;
public class BaseRequest {
#JsonProperty("header")
public Header header;
}
In your spring configuration:
<bean class="org.springframework.web.servlet.view.ContentNegotiatingViewResolver">
<property name="order" value="1" />
<property name="mediaTypes">
<map>
<entry key="json" value="application/json" />
<entry key="file" value="multipart/form-data" />
</map>
</property>
<property name="defaultViews">
<list>
<!-- JSON View -->
<bean class="org.springframework.web.servlet.view.json.MappingJacksonJsonView" />
</list>
</property>
</bean>
Maven dependency for Jackson
org.codehaus.jackson
jackson-mapper-asl
1.9.3
I have this checked with spring version 3.2.2.RELEASE.Should work for higher spring version as well
