Eclipse can't open JSP editor

Eclipse Platform - Version: 3.8.1, under Ubuntu 16.04
I have a webapp group of files I opened with a general Eclipse project. In here I got java and jsp files to work with.
I read that I could want to use another editor to better visualize and work with my code, so I downloaded the Marketplace and suggested plugins (Eclipse Web Developer Tools, Eclipse Plug-in Development Environment, Eclipse Java Web Developer Tools, Eclipse Java Development Tools) so I could switch to JAVA EE perspective and start the JSP Editor.
Done so, when I try to open any .jsp file I get the usual error others occurs in I paster below.
I suspect that Eclipse uses an uncorrect Java version, but can't find a way to check which it is. I read it should be in the file eclipse.ini in /usr/lib/eclipse but that file doesn't have references to anything similar (it should have a line with a -vm, which I have none).
I don't have ideas and hope some of you can enlight me!

I suspect the Ubuntu build is just broken if the com.ibm.icu.util.StringTokenizer class isn't loading; it's provided by the com.ibm.icu bundle, which is provided in the plain Eclipse Platform download.

Just had to download the latest Eclipse version from official site and all worked out. Don't use apt packets since they point to an older and probably unsupported Eclipse with fewer features.

How would i run test case in Intellij. I included the junit4.11 jar file to my module

Did you include the hamcrest-core-1.3.jar file in your classpath? If not included means include that jar and try once again.

add junit.jar to your project dependence.
you may also need to add hamcrest.jar in addition.
Open File->Project Structure,Click Modules->Dependences,add junit.jar.

Latest version of hamcrest-all is available at:
https://search.maven.org/search?q=a:hamcrest-all
Download this version (as opposed to the hamcrest-core) and that should do it.

If you come across this (and a few other threads) on this error and adding the jar to dependencies doesn't work, you will need to add to the general java classpath.
I encountered this error in OSX where maven would download the dependency, but not find it when in fork mode.
Adding all the hamcrest jars to Library/Java/Extensions finally fixed the problem when nothing else would.

Maven project won't compile after upgrade to Intellij 13.1 from 12

My code no longer compiles after the upgrade. Imports from libraries that are included as maven dependencies show compile issue with Cannot resolve symbol. I have Invalidated the cache and restarted Intellij. I have cleared .m2/repository and watched Intellij repull in the dependencies. Pulling in the dependencies seems to work fine, but then fail to get loaded is my guess.

Disable the Maven 3 checkbox in "Settings | Maven | Importing".

Invalidate your Idea cache and restart Idea.

In my case Cannot reconnect error was caused by absence of class DependencyTreeResolutionListener as idea.log states. I've noticed that library containing this class is absent in maven3 plugin but present in maven2. So I copied maven-dependency-tree-1.2.jar from <IdeaInstallDir>/plugins/maven/lib/maven2 to <IdeaInstallDir>/plugins/maven/lib/maven3. Then I updated current maven project by pushing Reimport All Maven Projects button in Maven Projects tool window. After that error was gone.

This worked for me:
Settings (Ctrl + Alt + S) > Maven > Importing > JDK for importer: Use JAVA_HOME

For me, increasing Maven's allocated memory worked:
Settings -> Maven -> Runner > VM Options :
-Xms128m -Xmx512m

Change the 'JDK for importer' found under File--> Settings --> Build, Execution and Deployment --> Build Tools --> Maven --> Importing to 'Use JAVA_HOME'

this exception means that the class cucumber.io.ResourceLoader is not found in the classpath of your Project. Try to add the cucumber-core.jar to the classpath of your project following this eclipse documentation.

It would help if you could let us know what libraries you referenced in your project. cucumber-core is referenced by cucumber-java. So if you have cucumber-java, you don't need to have cucumber-core in your class path. Looking at your code, I notice you use #Cucumber.Options. This is deprecated in the latest release, so looks like you are not using latest release. Try using cucumber 1.1.5 jars.
Also any reason why aren't you using maven? Maven is supposed to make these things easier.

Does anyone knows the workaround? Or at least understood the error? I've done some googling but no clues.. only this page facing the same problem but no solution..

Velocity tries to put the logfile in the directory Tomcat was started from, and I believe that is actually /.
You can force Velocity to log to Tomcat's standard log by adding these lines to your velocity.properties:
runtime.log.logsystem.class=org.apache.velocity.runtime.log.SimpleLog4JLogSystem
runtime.log.logsystem.log4j.category=velocity
runtime.log.logsystem.log4j.logger=velocity
The velocity.properties should go into /WEB-INF/velocity.properties but you can override that in you servlet definition in web.xml.
If you're initialising Velocity by properties and not the velocity.properties:
VelocityEngine engine = new VelocityEngine();
Properties props = new Properties();
props.put("runtime.log.logsystem.class", "org.apache.velocity.runtime.log.SimpleLog4JLogSystem");
props.put("runtime.log.logsystem.log4j.category", "velocity");
props.put("runtime.log.logsystem.log4j.logger", "velocity");
engine.init(props);

I think this line has the answer. Looks like there is an issue creating the velocity.log file. What does your configuration file look like?

It appears the process attempting to open the log file does not have permission to do so:

I have had exactly the same problem with my code and after hours of googling for that , I just decided to add some other Velocity libraries to my project.
My project only had the apache-velocity jar file, then from here, I also added Velocity-Dep to my Maven project and Yesssssssssss! VICTORY!

I too had same Issue but I was able to resolve this overriding the default log file to customized log file. Just add this 3 lines of code in the method where you are calling evaluate Function.
Velocity.setProperty(RuntimeConstants.RUNTIME_LOG_LOGSYSTEM_CLASS,"org.apache.velocity.runtime.log.Log4JLogChute");
Velocity.setProperty("runtime.log.logsystem.log4j.logger","com.mindtree.igg.website.email.TemplateMergeUtilVelocityImpl");
VelocityContext velocityContext = new VelocityContext(parameters);
This is one way of solving it ie, without using property file.
