Spring MVC thymeleaf random crash - java

I have wierd issue with Spring MVC and thymeleaf. When I run my web application I get random crash from time to time. Sometimes all works just fine but sometimes I get something like that:

It tells me that I dont have SpringTemplateEngine bean but I have it in my configuration:
...
imports
...
#Configuration
#EnableWebMvc
#ComponentScan("com.myapp.controllers")
public class WebConfiguration extends WebMvcConfigurerAdapter {
private static final String TEMPLATE_RESOLVER_PREFIX = "/WEB-INF/templates/";

private static final String TEMPLATE_RESOLVER_TEMPLATE_MODE = "HTML5";
#Bean

viewResolver.setTemplateEngine(templateEngine);
return viewResolver;
}
#Bean

}

The most weird thing is that it crash totally randomly. It works just fine but after couple builds it starts crashing with every next build. When it start crashing I remove maven build "target" directory and Invalidate cache and Restart IntelliJ Idea. Have you any idea what is wrong?
PS. I use IntellijIdea 13.1.6.

Maybe you're hitting some subtle dependency issue.
It is advised to declare inter-beans dependencies like this:
...
imports
...
#Configuration
#EnableWebMvc
#ComponentScan("com.myapp.controllers")
public class WebConfiguration extends WebMvcConfigurerAdapter {
private static final String TEMPLATE_RESOLVER_PREFIX = "/WEB-INF/templates/";
private static final String TEMPLATE_RESOLVER_SUFFIX = ".html";
private static final String TEMPLATE_RESOLVER_TEMPLATE_MODE = "HTML5";
#Bean
public ViewResolver viewResolver() {
ThymeleafViewResolver viewResolver = new ThymeleafViewResolver();
viewResolver.setTemplateEngine(templateEngine());
return viewResolver;
}
#Bean
public TemplateEngine templateEngine() {
SpringTemplateEngine templateEngine = new SpringTemplateEngine();
templateEngine.setTemplateResolver(templateResolver());
return templateEngine;
}
#Bean
public TemplateResolver templateResolver() {
TemplateResolver templateResolver = new ServletContextTemplateResolver();
templateResolver.setPrefix(TEMPLATE_RESOLVER_PREFIX);
templateResolver.setSuffix(TEMPLATE_RESOLVER_SUFFIX);
templateResolver.setTemplateMode(TEMPLATE_RESOLVER_TEMPLATE_MODE);
return templateResolver;
}

The first thing I'd check is that you haven't got multiple versions of the same library on the classpath because this can cause really confusing issues.
Maven is supposed to resolve this but I know that IDEA has some issues with conflicting dependency versions when using Gradle so it may be the case for Maven too.
To check this, expand the External Libraries "folder" in the project view and check that you have only got one entry for each library.

I have declared an empty Application class here:
public class ScenarioPlannerApp extends Application{}
I am using the following simple web service with URL http://localhost:9050/scenarioplanner/api/models/:
The Resource Code is :
#Path("")
public class ModelController
{
#GET
#Path("/models/")
#Produces(MediaType.APPLICATION_JSON)
public Response getModels() throws Exception {
ModelService modelService = null;
List<CarModelData> models;
models = modelService.getModelDetails();
logger.debug("Webservice Name [/models/] execution completed with HTTP status OK [200]");
//return Responsestatus(Status.OK).entity(models).build();
return Response
.status(Status.OK)
.entity(models)
.build();
}
I have read many answers on stack overflow, but not able to solve this error.
I have spent the whole day trying to debug this error but in vain!
Any help will be highly valued and appreciated!!
Fixing the application path
Annotate the class that extends Application with #ApplicationPath:
#ApplicationPath("/api")
public class ScenarioPlannerApp extends Application {
...
}
Fixing the resource path
Annotate the ModelController class with #Path using /models as value. The getModels() method doesn't need a #Path annotation in this situation:
#Path("/models")
public class ModelController {
#GET
#Produces(MediaType.APPLICATION_JSON)
public Response getModels() throws Exception {
...
}
}
It's important to remember that a #Path annotation on a resource class designates a resource.
Creating resource methods
It's very likely you'll need to add more methods to the ModelController resource class. See the examples below:
To have a method that handles POST requests on /api/models, you can have the following:
#POST
#Consumes(MediaType.APPLICATION_JSON)
public Response createModel(Model model) throws Exception {
...
}
To have a method that handles GET requests on /api/models/{id}, you can have the following:
#GET
#Path("/{id}")
#Produces(MediaType.APPLICATION_JSON)
public Response getModel(#PathParam("id") Long id) throws Exception {
...
}
And it's important to remember that a #Path annotation on a resource method of a resource class designates a sub resource of a resource.
This issue has been solved by me.
This is what I needed to do:
#Path("")
public class ModelController
{
#GET
#Path("/models/")
#Produces(MediaType.APPLICATION_JSON)
public Response getModels() throws Exception {
return Response
.status(Status.OK)
.entity(models)
.build();
}
In the above piece of code,
I had to change the path #Path("") to #Path("/api")
That's it!!
Rest all was fine!
To those who are migrating their Resteasy version from 2.X to 3.X or 4.X.
The path matching algorithm has changed for JAX-RS 2.0 and became very strict.
In order for you to continue using your existing method's #Path, you must enable the resteasy.wider.request.matching Resteasy configuration.
web.xml
<context-param>
<param-name>resteasy.wider.request.matching</param-name>
<param-value>true</param-value>
</context-param>

Spring Boot with Activiti and websockets

I am currently creating a new project and trying to use Spring boot.
My knowledge of spring boot is quite light, thus I am not able to understand this issue. I followed spring boot & activiti tutorial. I started using the spring initializr to create the project artifacts, and then added the websocket tutorial on top of the working project. This is the tutorial link: Spring Boot with Activiti

What I can see is the NoUniqueBeanDefinitionException coming back for every bean called by Activiti.
How can I deal with this issue with Spring boot?
Thanks for your help / advice.
Finally, the answer was given by Andy Wilkinson in another post: Spring Boot auto-configuration problems with Activiti
To solve the problem, this is the code I used:
#SpringBootApplication
public class PlatformApplication {
#Primary
#Bean
public TaskExecutor primaryTaskExecutor() {
ThreadPoolTaskExecutor executor = new ThreadPoolTaskExecutor();
// add necessary properties to the executor
return executor;
}
public static void main(String[] args) {
SpringApplication.run(PlatformApplication.class, args);
}
}
Where I define my own TaskExecutor as #Primary.

Spring MVC project not working anymore after converting to Maven in Eclipse

I recently converted an existing Dynamic Web Project to a Maven project in Eclipse, following the instructions from this guide:
http://crunchify.com/how-to-convert-existing-java-project-to-maven-in-eclipse/
The conversion completed successfully, but a lot of errors appeared in the classes as several imports where not recognized anymore.
Then, I imported all Spring MVC dependencies using the instructions described here:
http://crunchify.com/how-to-import-all-spring-mvc-dependencies-to-your-maven-project/
Everything looked fine, all errors disappeared; but unfortunately, when I tried to run the project on Tomcat, I got the following error message:
HTTP Status 500 - Servlet.init() for servlet spring-dispatcher threw exception
type Exception report
message Servlet.init() for servlet spring-dispatcher threw exception
description The server encountered an internal error that prevented it from fulfilling this request.

The project was working fine before I converted it to a Maven project, so I guess I missed something during the conversion process and/or when I added the dependencies.

//create model for view HOME.JSP
#Controller
public class HomepageController {
#RequestMapping (value="/home", method= RequestMethod.GET)
//#ModelAttribute creates HomeViewModel object and autowire params from HOME.JSP
//#RequestParam gets the value of "page" from URL and set initial value to 1
public ModelAndView createHome (#ModelAttribute(value="hvm") HomeViewModel hvm,
#RequestParam (value="page", defaultValue="1") int page) {
ModelAndView model= new ModelAndView("home");
try {
//generate list of ID and name for all restaurants in tab Articolo
hvm.generateListaAllArticoli();
//generate list of articles to display in current page
hvm.generateListaArticoliRM(page);
} catch (SQLException e) {
System.out.println("failed to create HomeViewModel");
e.printStackTrace();
}
//hvm is automatically added to the model by #ModelAttribute
return model;
}
}
I did not touch the last two xml files or the servlet, so I would exclude the error is in these files.
Any idea of where the problem is? Thank you in advance for any help.
If you see the below error it is saying there is NoSuchMethodError. Most probably there might be conflicting jars in your classpath or wrong version of jars that don't have the specific method.
root cause
java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: javax.validation.spi.ConfigurationState.getParameterNameProvider()Ljavax/validation/ParameterNameProvider;
org.hibernate.validator.internal.engine.ValidatorFactoryImpl.<init>(ValidatorFactoryImpl.java:142)
org.hibernate.validator.HibernateValidator.buildValidatorFactory(HibernateValidator.java:35)
I would say try adding the following dependency in your pom.xml.
<dependency>
<groupId>org.hibernate</groupId>
<artifactId>hibernate-validator</artifactId>
<version>5.0.3.Final</version>
</dependency>
When you add hibernate-validatorto pom.xml, maven might automatically add its dependent jar validation-api 1.1.0.Final. In that case remove your already existing validation-api 1.0.0.GA since it might cause conflict.
Ok I solved the problem: as suggested by Aditya, the jars in my classpath were conflicting with the jars stored in my WEB-INF/lib folder. Therefore, I manually aligned the POM file with the content of lib folder and, after cleaning the app and server, it finally worked!
Thank you Aditya for your help.

But most weird, is if I remove spring-context dependency then test is passing well, but controller getting different error, that he couldn't autowired some beans.
I'm new to Spring data, and spring mvc. I know how to write entities, controllers, and ropositories class, but I still have problem with configuration. Do you know why test works after removing that dependency, and why not working with it? And finally how to make it works all together?
Maybe in intellij there is such a tree:
How to read such a tree? You will notice there is ehcache-spring-annotation (4th from bottom) requiring a previous version of slf4j-api (3rd from bottom in version 1.6.2). But a newer version of slf4j-api is hardcoded(1st from above).
Now, when slf4j in example having a method clearMetadataCache in version 1.6.1 that is removed in 1.6.6, such a NoSuchMethodError is thrown.
As the error log said Spring failed to autowire MeetingController because it cannot autowird MeetingRepository. So check the MeetingRepository implementation if you have added #Repository to make sure the Spring can autowire it, or make sure the Spring will scan the component package.
You should consider using the Spring IO Platform, that should resolve the version issues regarding the spring dependencies.
For details see enter link description here .
Additionally either use spring-data-jpa or don't use it. I would use it, the spring-data repsitories are really simple and powerfull. The EntityManager dependency is in that case not necessary.

Spring: can't load properties on junit with PropertyPlaceholderConfigurer

Note: I've added the projects described above in a drop file service for easy reproduction and browsing -> http://dropcanvas.com/ujzw5
Only available for 3 days though.
Problem:
I have a program that works, called SomeBean. Running it I get the expected results and Spring wiring.
I'd like to make a separate test project which has a test class with Junit: acme-package2, to test my wiring on acme-package1. This works fine if SomeBean is injected with other beans, but not with properties from PropertyPlaceholderConfigurer.
My Question: I would like to know how to make SomeBeanWireTest from acme-package2 work.
I don't want to change acme-package1's SomeBean class, and I do want to continue using the springcontext.xml with classpath location on the PropertyPlaceholderConfigurer if possible.
Since my test is to verify the wiring of acme-package1, I don't want to have a different springcontext.xml on the test project because it defeats the purpose of testing the wiring of the original project.
My hope is that there is something I can do on SomeBeanWireTest that will test SomeBean's wiring without having to change SomeBean's code. Here's the code of the project:
SomeBean:
package com.acme.package1;
import org.springframework.beans.factory.annotation.Autowired;
import org.springframework.context.ConfigurableApplicationContext;
import org.springframework.context.support.ClassPathXmlApplicationContext;
public class SomeBean {
private final static String CLASSPATH_METAINF_PREFIX = "classpath*:META-INF/";
#Autowired
private String injectedString;
public void setInjectedString(String injectedString) {
this.injectedString = injectedString;
}
public static void main(String[] args)
{
ConfigurableApplicationContext springContext = new ClassPathXmlApplicationContext(CLASSPATH_METAINF_PREFIX + "springcontext.xml");
SomeBean testBean = springContext.getBean(SomeBean.class);
testBean.printInjectedString();
springContext.close();
}
private void printInjectedString() {
System.out.println("Injected String: " + injectedString);
}
}
acme.properties:
acme.injectedString=I am an injected String
acme-package1's springcontext.xml:

Since springcontext.xml is explicitly setting the injectedString property, there's no reason to annotate the field with #Autowired. I'm not sure why it works in one context but not the other. Could be a difference in the behavior of ClassPathXmlApplicationContext (used in the main method) and GenericApplicationContext (used by the test class).
In any event, removing #Autowired will fix it. Another option would be annotating injectedString with #Value("${acme.injectedString}") and removing the <property name="injectedString" value="${acme.injectedString}" /> line from springcontext.xml.
