Spring: can't load properties on junit with PropertyPlaceholderConfigurer - java

Note: I've added the projects described above in a drop file service for easy reproduction and browsing -> http://dropcanvas.com/ujzw5
Only available for 3 days though.
Problem:
I have a program that works, called SomeBean. Running it I get the expected results and Spring wiring.
I'd like to make a separate test project which has a test class with Junit: acme-package2, to test my wiring on acme-package1. This works fine if SomeBean is injected with other beans, but not with properties from PropertyPlaceholderConfigurer.
My Question: I would like to know how to make SomeBeanWireTest from acme-package2 work.
I don't want to change acme-package1's SomeBean class, and I do want to continue using the springcontext.xml with classpath location on the PropertyPlaceholderConfigurer if possible.
Since my test is to verify the wiring of acme-package1, I don't want to have a different springcontext.xml on the test project because it defeats the purpose of testing the wiring of the original project.
My hope is that there is something I can do on SomeBeanWireTest that will test SomeBean's wiring without having to change SomeBean's code. Here's the code of the project:
SomeBean:
package com.acme.package1;
import org.springframework.beans.factory.annotation.Autowired;
import org.springframework.context.ConfigurableApplicationContext;
import org.springframework.context.support.ClassPathXmlApplicationContext;
public class SomeBean {
private final static String CLASSPATH_METAINF_PREFIX = "classpath*:META-INF/";
#Autowired
private String injectedString;
public void setInjectedString(String injectedString) {
this.injectedString = injectedString;
}
public static void main(String[] args)
{
ConfigurableApplicationContext springContext = new ClassPathXmlApplicationContext(CLASSPATH_METAINF_PREFIX + "springcontext.xml");
SomeBean testBean = springContext.getBean(SomeBean.class);
testBean.printInjectedString();
springContext.close();
}
private void printInjectedString() {
System.out.println("Injected String: " + injectedString);
}
}
acme.properties:
acme.injectedString=I am an injected String
acme-package1's springcontext.xml:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

Since springcontext.xml is explicitly setting the injectedString property, there's no reason to annotate the field with #Autowired. I'm not sure why it works in one context but not the other. Could be a difference in the behavior of ClassPathXmlApplicationContext (used in the main method) and GenericApplicationContext (used by the test class).
In any event, removing #Autowired will fix it. Another option would be annotating injectedString with #Value("${acme.injectedString}") and removing the <property name="injectedString" value="${acme.injectedString}" /> line from springcontext.xml.

Trying to learn Spring: BeanCreationException: Error creating bean with name

Started to learn "Spring in Action" and got a trouble on the very first chapter.
I have simple Spring application, built with Maven:
pom.xml
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<project xmlns="http://maven.apache.org/POM/4.0.0"
xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"

I have XML application context where I define three beans:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<beans xmlns="http://www.springframework.org/schema/beans"
xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
xmlns:aop="http://www.springframework.org/schema/aop"

Here are beans themselves:
Knight who embarks on quest:
package main.java.alesto.knight;
public class BraveKnight implements Knight {
private Quest quest;
//We are going to inject a quest via Spring using CONSTRUCTOR INJECTION
public BraveKnight(Quest quest) {
this.quest = quest;
}
public void embarkOnQuest() {
quest.embark();
}
}
Quest itself:
package main.java.alesto.knight;
import java.io.PrintStream;
public class SlayDragonQuest implements Quest {
private PrintStream stream;
//We are going to inject a quest via Spring using CONSTRUCTOR INJECTION
public SlayDragonQuest(PrintStream stream) {
this.stream = stream;
}
public void embark() {
stream.println("Embarking on quest to slay the dragon!");
}
}
And minstrel assosiated with knight and who sings songs depending on knight's actions:
package main.java.alesto.knight;
import java.io.PrintStream;
public class Minstrel {
private PrintStream printStream;
public Minstrel(PrintStream printStream) {
this.printStream = printStream;
}
public void singBeforeQuest() {
printStream.println("This piece of shit is going to dieeeeee!!11");
}
public void singAfterQuest() {
printStream.println("The noble hero brought the victory!");
}
}
Why am I getting this exception and how to solve it?
The error you are getting is:
Caused by: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: org.aspectj.weaver.reflect.ReflectionWorld$ReflectionWorldException
This means that your application is missing a required library. In your case, you are doing AOP with Spring (<aop:config>) so you need to add Spring AOP to your Maven POM:
<dependency>
<groupId>org.springframework</groupId>
<artifactId>spring-aop</artifactId>
<version>4.2.4.RELEASE</version>
</dependency>
As a side-note, I notice that you are depending on Mockito and JUnit with the default compile scope. Since those are probably test dependencies, it would be better to declare them with the test scope:
<dependency>
<groupId>org.mockito</groupId>
<artifactId>mockito-core</artifactId>
<version>2.0.41-beta</version>
<scope>test</scope>
</dependency>
<dependency>
<groupId>junit</groupId>
<artifactId>junit</artifactId>
<version>4.12</version>
<scope>test</scope>
</dependency>
add reference for cglib as following for gradle:
compile group: 'cglib', name: 'cglib', version: '3.2.5'
then run gradle build in command line, then run the program, everything will be ok!
I had the same problem as you. Solution: You need the AspectJ library.
<!-- https://mvnrepository.com/artifact/org.springframework.boot/spring-boot-starter-aop -->
<dependency>
<groupId>org.springframework.boot</groupId>
<artifactId>spring-boot-starter-aop</artifactId>
<version>2.3.3.RELEASE</version>
</dependency>

I don't understand why I'm getting this error. Subject autowires AutowireInTest. AutowireInTest autowires IgnoreInTest, but I'm assuming the TestConfig should overwrite AutowireInTest and replace it with a mock that does not have the autowire to IgnoreInTest. So why does this test still start with this error?
My goal is to avoid using a real AutowireInTest in my test and context, but I do have other autowired classes in my Subject (not in this code, but in my real code I'm trying to test) that I do want to autowire. How do I achieve this?
If anything, I would expect this test to fail saying it can't find Subject. My TestConfig only has a #Bean for AutowireInTest, so how does my test know how to autowire Subject? I haven't told it to scan anything.
A mock object is an instance of a dynamically created class that extends the class being mocked. The class being mocked has fields annotated with #Autowired. So Spring is supposed to autowire these fields. But it can't because the beans to autowire don't exist, hence the exception.
There is no reason to load a Spring context to implement a unit test. Just use Mockito without Spring:
#InjectMocks
private Subject subject;
#Mock
private AutowireInTest mockAutowizeInTest;
#Before
public void prepare() {
MockitoAnnotations.initMocks(this);
}
Iy fou used constructor injection, the problem you're facing would become obvious, because the dependencies wouldbe explicit, and you wouldn't need the annotation support of Mockito:
AutowireInTest mockAutowireInTest = mock(AutowireInTest.class);
Subject subject = new Subject(mockAutowireInTest);
Regarding your second question: the est would fail later if it went until there. But it can't go until there because it can't even create the beans referenced in the context.

Spring Application Context Loading Manually With Autowire

I am working on a simple Spring Maven java console application and hence I am loading my application context manually. The Autowire annotations are not working for me
I have listed the java code below
Main.java
public class Main {
public static void main(String[] args) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
ApplicationContext applicationContext = new ClassPathXmlApplicationContext("applicationContext.xml");
System.out.println("ctx>>"+applicationContext);
GreeterService greeterService = applicationContext.getBean(GreeterServiceImpl.class);
System.out.println(greeterService);
System.out.println(greeterService .greetGuest("John Doe"));
}
}
GreeterServiceImpl
#Component
public class GreeterServiceImpl implements GreeterService {
#Autowired
Sample service;
#Override
public String greetGuest(String greeter) {
if (greeter == null) {
return "Looged in as Guest";
}
return "Hello " + greeter + " How are you?";
}
}
Sample.impl is just a empty implementation to test the POC
Sample.java
public interface Sample {
}
SampleImpl.java
#Component
public class SampleImpl {
}
applicationContext.xml

Is my ApplicationContext not available to the GreeterService class , if so why is that ?
The error msg itself saying everything about the issue. You are trying to autowire Sample in GreeterServiceImpl class while you declare SampleImpl as another component. To correct do either one of following:-
Change Sample to SampleImpl
OR
Change public class SampleImpl to public class SampleImpl implements Sample and create a interface called Sample
OR
Change public class SampleImpl to public class Sample
Your Sample Class should be
package com.springconsole;
#Component
public class Sample{
...
...
}

Could not autowire - org.springframework.beans.factory.BeanCreationException

I am trying to build a restful web service with Spring Boot, Maven, and Tomcat.
When I try to deploy maven jar file to Tomcat I receive this error:

Reading the solutions in this, I'm under the impression that I would not need an xml file. Can someone find an error that I'm not aware of? I am very new to all this so any expertise/guidance would be appreciated.
I think, the problem is, that you extend the JdbcTemplate. Spring Boot only creates a JdbcTemplate, if no other bean with this type is found. But your class is a bean of type JdbcTemplate, so the autoconfiguration for the JdbcTemplate is skipped. Try to remove the "extends JdbcTemplate", it doesn't seem to be required for your class.
You need to specify the JDBCTemplate in context xml like below or you need to add the package for component scan.
http://docs.spring.io/spring/docs/current/javadoc-api/org/springframework/context/annotation/ComponentScan.html
<bean id="jtDataSource"
class="org.springframework.jdbc.datasource.DriverManagerDataSource">
<property name="driverClassName" value="*******"/>
<property name="url" value="*******"/>
<property name="username" value="*****"/>
<property name="password" value="**********"/>
</bean>
<bean id="jt" class="org.springframework.jdbc.core.JdbcTemplate">
<property name="dataSource" ref="jtDataSource"/> --Incase if you are configuring data source
</bean>
Try declaring a bean with JdbcTemplate
#Bean
public DataSource getDataSource(){
/* Return the data source with proper configuration... */
}
#Autowired
public DataSource dataSource;
#Bean
public JdcTemplate getJdbcTemplate(){
JdbcTemplate jdbcTemplate = new JdbcTemplate(dataSource);
return dataSource;
}

Dependency injection fails on a spring test when using #Qualifier

I'm using JDK 1.7, intelliJ community 13, I'm writing a spring JUnit test:
#RunWith(SpringJUnit4ClassRunner.class)
#ContextConfiguration(locations = {"classpath*:test-applicationContext.xml"})
public class InstructionMessageTest {
#Autowired
#Qualifier("validator")
public Validator validator;
#Test
public void shouldFailValidationWithLowInstructionType() throws Exception {
InstructionMessage underTest = new InstructionMessage(0, 1, 1, 0, 1);
underTest.getInstructionType();
//// validator.validate(underTest);
// ApplicationContext tstctx = new ClassPathXmlApplicationContext("test-applicationContrext.xml");
// Validator validator = (Validator) tstctx.getBean("validator");
// Set<ConstraintViolation<InstructionMessage>> errors = validator.validate(underTest);
}
#Test
public void shouldFailValidationWithHighInstructiuontype() throws Exception {
}
}
here is the application context
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<beans xmlns="http://www.springframework.org/schema/beans"
xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
xmlns:context="http://www.springframework.org/schema/context"

When I uncomment manual lookup in the context, everything is working fine. Have I missed something?
You are doing 2 different things by annotation and in code. By annotation, you search for class matching interface and qualifier. In code, you match using unique bean name.
org.springframework.beans.factory.NoSuchBeanDefinitionException: No
qualifying bean of type [javax.validation.Validator] found for
dependency: expected at least 1 bean which qualifies as autowire
candidate for this dependency.
This error is very clear: you have declared no bean of type javax.validation.Validator with qualifier "validator". You should do that like that:
<bean id="validator" class="org.springframework.validation.beanvalidation.LocalValidatorFactoryBean">
<qualifier value="validator"/>
</bean>
Reference: http://docs.spring.io/spring/docs/3.0.x/spring-framework-reference/html/beans.html
Or as alternative, use exact mapping with javax.annotation.Resource annotation:
#javax.annotation.Resource(name="validator")
private Validator validator;
which is doing that what you were doing manually:
Validator validator = (Validator) tstctx.getBean("validator");
This is not an issue. You are referring to test-applicationContext.xml in your classpath.
"When I uncomment manual lookup in the context, everything is working fine"
That's because the file is called test-applicationContrext.xml......i.e. you have spelt it differently. Please check your work throughly before posting on this forum
