When I generate my WAR file using mvn clean install , some classes throw the following error msg:
public Person deletePers(String paramString1, String paramString2) {
throw new Error("Unresolved compilation problems: \n\tTransactional cannot be resolved to a type\n.......; }
But if I generate my WAR file in Eclipse (file > export as War File), I don't get the above error. Anyone know how to solve this?

Problem Part:
This is happening because eclipse is using its own compiler.
Eclipse has implemented its own compiler called as Eclipse Compiler for Java (ECJ).
It is different from the javac, the compiler that is shipped with Sun JDK. One notable difference is that the Eclipse compiler lets you run code that didn't actually properly compile.
If the block of code with the error is never ran, your program will run fine. Otherwise, it will throw an exception indicating that you tried to run code that doesn't compile.
Another difference is that the Eclipse compiler allows for incremental builds from within the Eclipse IDE, that is, all code is compiled as soon as you finish typing.
=============================
Solution Part:
Unfortunately,there is no quick way in Eclipse to switch to Javac (from Sun /Oracle). You cannot simply choose javac from a dropdown or similar in eclipse.
FYi: But this is very simple in IntelliJ IDEA.
But, you can achieve this using Ant tasks or External Tools Configuration.
Both the above approaches are clearly explained in this SO answers.

SOLVED I have a project with maven as its build tool. When I build it on my machine using "mvn –P DEV clean package -Dmaven.test.skip=true" command it works fine. But when I send it to my client and he builds it on the test server with the same command there are some additional dependencies that appear from nowhere and brake everything.
[![img][1]][1]
on the left it is clients build. and on the right it is mine. Notice slf4j-simple that just appeared from nowhere after building on the client machine. Could you please explain to me what is going on?
We use Java 7, Jboss 7.1.1, and maven as a build tool. No slf4j-simple is added in maven. There is no slf4j-simple in my project dependencies and it should NOT be there.
Here is my pom.xml

I found the reason for this!!
Thank you all for your help. The reason was that client when copying new deployment doesn't completely erase old files. And this simple-slf4j is left from an old build.

I'm upgrading a spring application from 4.3.x version to 5.1.x version. When doing this I found an error for JasperReportsPdfView class from the org.springframework.web.servlet.view.jasperreports package.
Also in our application we are using the jasperreports-3.6.0 jar.
Error:
error: package org.springframework.web.servlet.view.jasperreports does not exist
Sample Code:
public class PdfReportView extends JasperReportsPdfView{
/**
* Creating constructor
* #param contractList
*/
public PdfReportView(List contractList) throws JRException
{
}

Also I can see jasperreports package in spring 4.3.24.RELEASE.
https://docs.spring.io/spring/docs/4.3.24.RELEASE/javadoc-api/
But I'm not able to see from 5.0.0.RELEASE onwards.
https://docs.spring.io/spring/docs/5.0.0.RELEASE/javadoc-api/
Please help me to solve this issue.
Also please suggest some example url's to get knowledge on this.
Also suggest some steps that I can follow to upgrade this jar from 3.6.0 to 6.7.1 version.
Generally, while upgrading from the Spring lower versions to higher versions( Ex: Spring-4.x.x to Spring-5.x.x ) we need to consider the below points.
New Features
Supported existing features
Removed Packages, Classes and Methods
Dropped Support Features
From the Spring Framework github wiki and from other articles, it is confirmed that support for JasperReports has been dropped from Spring 5.x versions. So it is recommended to remove the code that are using the Japser reports from the application code or to support them by using the core-jasper reports libraries.

Based on your POM change this dependency:
<dependency>
<groupId>net.sf.jasperreports</groupId>
<artifactId>jasperreports</artifactId>
<version>3.6.0</version>
</dependency>
For this one:
<dependency>
<groupId>net.sf.jasperreports</groupId>
<artifactId>jasperreports</artifactId>
<version>5.0.1</version>
</dependency>
Also, when changing dependencies, I always rebuild the project from my IDE (IntelliJ or Eclipse), because sometimes it doesn´t solve all the packages correctly (your problem).
You can always look for updated dependencies here.
Working on a Spring app and using Maven 3 as a build tool. My app was working properly in Eclipse Neon on Windows machine.
Now I'm using Oxygen on Mac system. My app need a specific context root i.e. /app.
When I update(maven update) it after setting context-root by changing .settings/org.eclipse.wst.common.component file or web project setting properties, it reverts context-root again to app.
Here is my pom.xml
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

Is there any other way to change context-root or any idea why maven update changing context root?
See M2E-WTP FAQ.
It says that specifying
<properties>
<m2eclipse.wtp.contextRoot>/app</m2eclipse.wtp.contextRoot>
...
</properties>
would do the trick. At least it does for me on Eclispe 2018-12 (4.10.0) and M2E 1.10.0
Older solutions like this does not seem to work.
When you use a maven project, IDEs typically import settings from the POM file, so instead of changing IDE settings, you should update your POM and it will be automatically imported when you update.
In your case, try changing wtpContextName, finalName in your POM and updating / reimporting.
I have a problem while deploying a web app. I use maven + spring security and the server keeps reporting the following problem :
error: com.sun.tools.javac.code.Symbol$CompletionFailure: class file for org.springframework.security.ldap.DefaultSpringSecurityContextSource not found
Here is my pom file and the list of dependencies :

I tried adding the following dependency:
https://mvnrepository.com/artifact/org.springframework.ldap/spring-ldap-core/2.3.1.RELEASE
but the issue persisted.
I tried both Tomcat and Glassfish to no avail. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance
Add these dependencies to your pom:
<dependency>
<groupId>org.springframework.security</groupId>
<artifactId>spring-security-core</artifactId>
<version>${springsecurity.version}</version>
</dependency>
<dependency>
<groupId>org.springframework.security</groupId>
<artifactId>spring-security-openid</artifactId>
<version>${springsecurity.version}</version>
</dependency>
<dependency>
<groupId>org.springframework.security</groupId>
<artifactId>spring-security-ldap</artifactId>
<version>${springsecurity.version}</version>
</dependency>
I have same problem, remove this dependencies worked for me:
<dependency>
<groupId>org.eclipse.persistence</groupId>
<artifactId>eclipselink</artifactId>
<version>2.5.2</version>
<scope>provided</scope>
</dependency>
<dependency>
<groupId>org.eclipse.persistence</groupId>
<artifactId>org.eclipse.persistence.jpa.modelgen.processor</artifactId>
<version>2.5.2</version>
<scope>provided</scope>
</dependency>
I am trying to download dependencies using Maven but Maven is not downloading any jars from the central repository which means i have to manually install them which is a pain
I can telnet from my computer to the central repository using telnet repo.maven.apache.org 80 but when i use a browser to access the repository http://repo.maven.apache.org/ i am getting the following webpage
Browsing for this directory has been disabled.
View this directory's contents on http://search.maven.org instead.
Find out more about The Central Repository.
I have tried adding the following to my pom but this has not worked either
<repositories>
<repository>
<id>central</id>
<name>Central</name>
<url>http://search.maven.org</url>
</repository>
</repositories>
Has anyone else come across this and if so how did you resolve this?
EDIT : pom.xml
Just to note, i have set this exact same project with all the same version of maven on other environments but just the one i am working on now seems to not be able to download the jars from the central repository

i FINALLY found the issue. I am using Windows 8 with JRE 6 and 7 installed. In my development environment i am using JRE 7.
Im not sure about the specifics but it looks like the JRE was trying to use IPv6. I disabled this and set it to use IPv4 using the below command and it resolved everything
cmd : setx _JAVA_OPTIONS -Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true
The browser behavior is expected. Web browsers are prohibited to browse the root directory and lot of large subdirectories (org/com/net).
However, if you need to browse the repo, deeper points can be browsed: http://repo1.maven.org/maven2/org/apache
Note the repo1, you should always be using the domain name, repo1.maven.org.
UPDATE: looking at your pom.xml, seems you didn't replace standard info with your project info:
