How to load external configuration properties (DB Config) on Spring fat jar?

I am creating a service that runs automatically once the jar runs built with Spring. When the database configurations are written in the default application.properties, it can run normally and successfully done its tasks.
However, when I extract out the DB configs from there, and put them in app.properties which placed in the same folder as the fat jar, it returns this error:

This error pops when I execute the jar with the flag -Dspring.config.location=file:./app.properties, or when I put the spring.config.location and spring.config.name inside the default application.properties.
I ran the command to run jar with this:
java -jar .\fatjarapp-0.0.1-SNAPSHOT.jar -Dspring.config.location=file:./app.properties
How can I execute this with DB config on external properties file while running spring fat jar??

I have been able to resolve the execution with the flag -Dspring.config.location or --spring.config.location, but I am still curious whether if I put the spring.config.location and its path inside the default application.properties, it would work or not.

Previously, I did not expect whether the position of the spring flags needed to be placed before the jar filename, but it seems to be like that. In the Windows Powershell, I need to wrap the whole flag and its attribute with the doublequotes (") as well, so it turns to be:
java -jar "-Dspring.config.location=file:./app.properties" .\fatjarapp-0.0.1-SNAPSHOT.jar
And it runs normally and successfully as before.

Failed to create query method when using #IdClass composite primary key

I am attempting to create a simple existsBy query in a JPA repository using Spring Boot Data JPA. I am getting an error when Spring tries to create the method at runtime. existsBy seems to be the only type of query it is having trouble with. It can create findBy queries just fine. All Spring Boot dependencies in my application are using version 1.5.10.RELEASE.
Here I have a simple User class that uses an #IdClass for a composite primary key.

Now, if I remove the composite primary key #IdClass and only use a single field as the #Id, then everything works fine, no issues creating the method.

You have NPE cause environment is not autowired. I don't know exact reason but you can do workaraound as follows (got from here):

There is another exception: ClassNotFoundException: org.apache.ibatis.cursor.Cursor because org.mybatis:mybatis-spring:jar:1.3.0 require org.mybatis:mybatis:jar:3.4.0, so upgrade org.mybatis:mybatis from 3.1.1 to 3.4.0. There will be one more exception Failed to parse expression 'isAuthenticated())' cause there is unnecessary right brace ) in 'isAuthenticated())' on SecurityConfiguration:49

The exception was because of spring jpa. I removed spring-jpa dependency from pom.xml and it solved my problem. Thanks all for help and quick response.

I suspect the line that states:
spring.datasource.driverClassName=com.mongodb.Mongo
is wrong - this looks like a JDBC driver, but as MongoDB is a NoSQL database its driver doesn't conform to the same standards.

I removed the <version> tag in POM file, the problem fixed

Why can a class with a #Transactional method not be autowired?

I'm using Spring Security with a WAFFLE filter that authenticates the users against an ActiveDirectory server.
I created an additional filter that authenticates the user against my database as well (it just checks if the
previously authenticated user is in the database). This is done using an implementation of UserDetailsService.
This combination was working until I added an #Transactional annotated method to the service. Now the service
can not be autowired to the filter.

As soon as I remove the #Transactional the project compiles again. Why is it not possible to annotate the method as #Transactional?

To apply AOP spring uses proxies, these come in 2 flavors JDK Dynamic Proxies (interface based) and CgLIB based proxies (class based). By default Spring uses JDK Dynamic Proxies for classes that implement 1 or more interfaces.
At runtime you get a dynamically created object (the proxy) which implements all the interfaces (UserDetailsService) of the class it is wrapping (UserService). So that dynamically created object is a UserDetailsService but not a UserService.
Hence the error that the proxy cannot be cast to the UserService.
You have (at least) 2 ways of fixing this

As you are calling the getUserByUsername you would need to create a new interface and implement this as well as the UserDetailsService.

If you do it like this you can leave your filter untouched, as the UserService is now simply an interface. If you give the interface another name you would also have to change the UserService field in the filter to be of that type.
Enable class based proxies
As you are using spring boot enabling class based proxies is as easy as adding a property to your application.properties file.
spring.aop.proxy-target-class=true
This will create a class based proxy and that way you can leave your code for the filter unchanged.

Should become
#Autowired
private UserDetailsService userService;
because your #Transactional proxy is not an instance of UserService but it's an instance of UserDetailService (your interface)

as #mdeinum pointed out, native proxies in java can only proxy interfaces, not classes. this is also best practice. so you would have to do:
#Autowired
private IUserService userService;
and then
public class UserService implements IUserService
however, there are cases (especially with AOP) where it isn't possible. if that's the case you can use cglib proxies instead of native java proxies. you would have to add this to your (maven?) dependencies:

and tell spring-aop to proxy classes:
