Use application.yml to configure logging of embedded Tomcat in Spring Boot - java

I have a number of questions here (and I'm new to Spring Boot).
Our project's existing codebase uses YAML but no .properties file that I can see anywhere. My reading of usual Spring Boot tutorial uses .properties file.
(1) Is it possible to use application.yml as replacement for application.properties?
(2) Where is the default directory/file where the Spring Boot's embedded Tomcat server dumps its logs?
I need to modify the configuration such that we have custom directory to dump embedded Tomcat server logs. According to here, it should be

That is how it's done if using application.properties way.
(3) Assuming YAML can replace the .properties file entirely, how can I do the above configuration in YAML? Do I need to edit something in the Java source files in order for the configuration in YAML to take effect (that is Tomcat logs going into specific directory that I want)?

Spring boot doesn't log to a file by default (as far I know).
Whether you use yaml or properties file, spring boot uses this configuration to bootstrap the application. The below from here

Yes. You can change these to YML. All you need is to replace properties file with yml file. You could even have both in your workspace (spring looks at both application.properties and application.yml)
You can manually do the conversion or even with plugins.
A simple line like

Dockerized Spring Application with environment variables

I am currently trying to run a Java Spring application in a Docker container. This has worked without any problems so far. But now I want that in the application.properties there are no fixed values but only placeholders, which are passed as environment variables to the container. According to the Spring Docs this should be possible but when I try this I always get the error that no database connection can be established to the placeholder ${DB_CONFIG} (Caused by: java.lang.RuntimeException: Driver com.mysql.cj.jdbc.Driver claims to not accept jdbcUrl, ${DB_CONFIG}).
I already tried to pass the application.properties externally, instead of an env file pass the variables directly as Docker environment variable and instead of a custom variable (DB_CONFIG) for the JDBC url pass the Spring variable (SPRING_DATASOURCE_URL). Neither variant worked for me.
I hope I got my point across correctly and you guys can help me out.
For your information: I don't maintain the source code, I just get it from a CI/CD, copy the changed application.properties to its place and compile the project.

While searching for a solution to my problem, I came across the Spring Cloud Config Server (also just a Spring application that is self-hostable). This provides an interface between the configuration file storage location and the Spring application. The application is set up so that instead of a static application.(properties|yml) file, a bootstrap.yml is stored with the URL to the config server. When the application starts up, it then connects to the Config Server and receives it via a REST interface. The configuration files can be stored in Git/a DB or as a file.

Sonarqube integration and startSonar.bat failed Error(0x2)

Yesterday I started a new Unreal Engine Project on Visual Studio Team Service, I decided to learn by myself the art of videogames programming.
Anyway the best thing I wanted to use for this project was to integrate SonarQube in Visual Studio and get reports from it (I already used it at University and it was really useful for me), but I had some curious Problems:
First of all, I wanted to run the analisys on my Local PC, the problem is that today i ran the bat and i got this problem, I already checked somewhere for this problem but I believe It's not the %JAVA_HOME% Variable.

Critical error: wait for JVM process failed
If I'm able to solve this problem I have the necessity to understand how to integrate the code analysis in my Build definition on VSTS Locally (It requires a correct Endpoint and I don't know how to set it).
Last but not least, if i'm am not able to run this Build Definition Locally, is there any online free server that supports SonarQube to use it and finally get a report from SonarQube?

Seems that your update of wrapper.conf is wrong, its first lines after correct edit should look like:

The command java is not in the PATH. Another option if you don't want to edit the PATH variable is to define the absolute path to "java" in conf/wrapper.conf (see property wrapper.java.command).
I have updated JDK path in wrapper.conf file and it worked. Now, Wrapper.conf file looks like below:

#Davide Donadio: I have experienced the same issue today. Even after making the change suggested by #Godin. When checked further, the error says:
jvm 1 | Error: missing server' JVM at C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre1.8.0_271\bin\server\jvm.dll'.
StartSonar.bat is looking for jvm.dll inside 'server' folder. Then I provided the jdk path to wrapper.conf and it started to work!

spring-boot default log location

In a spring-boot application I can specify a custom log file with
java -jar spring-boot-app.jar --logging.file=/home/ubuntu/spring-boot-app.log
But if I don't specify one, where does it go?
I couldn't find it in any of the following folders:
/tmp/
/var/log/
~/
I do not have spring-boot-starter-logging or any additional logging dependencies.
I was hoping to have something similar to catalina.out since the default configuration runs an embedded Tomcat:

Spring Boot uses Commons Logging for all internal logging, but leaves the underlying log implementation open.
Default configurations are provided for Java Util Logging, Log4J, Log4J2 and Logback. In each case loggers are pre-configured to use console output with optional file output also available.

The default log configuration will echo messages to the console as they are written.
So until you explicitly specify a file as you described, it stays in the Console.
By default Spring Boot does not output logs to any file. If you want to have logs written in a file (in addition to the console output) then you should use either of logging.file or logging.path properties (not both).
In application.properties, just set:
logging.file=/home/ubuntu/spring-boot-app.log
This will create a spring-boot-app.log file under /home/ubuntu.
By default, Spring Boot logs only to the console and does not write log files. If you want to write log files in addition to the console output, you need to set a logging.file or logging.path property (for example, in your application.properties).
Below codes in your application.properties will write the log into /home/user/my.log:
logging.path = /home/user

After the completion of all configuration before installing my app to service ,I tested weather the app is running or not by executing the replicator. no issues founded in command-prompt. see the attachment. and the conf folder having wrapper.conf and wrapper-license.conf,
bin folder having AppReplicator.bat,InstallReplicator-NT.bat,replicator.bat,replicator.jar,wrapper.exe,UnInstallReplicator-NT.bat and start,stop etc bat files. I placed all the files in proper locations.
But when I install my application as a service ,it getting installed but when I try to launch it prompting up an error message
please correct me if I'm doing any wrong or else drive me in other approaches

If your service has an UI part, you must use the JavaExe free tool to create an interactive service.
finally I achieved my goal. I used open source apache commons procrun instead of thanuki wrapper.
After many number of failed attempts I succeeded. My java application now acting as a windows service.
download the sample from here and do the appropriate changes to make your app as a service. there is a
pdf document which is showing the instructions.Extract the sample from here procrun_sample_implementation
rename the existed .exe files with your app name and modify the script.
after the completion of entire set up, in the console at the folder where your app.exe files existed, run the script which is modified according to your application need.now the service is going to be installed.

Logging Oracle Java Stored Procedure using Java Logging API (java.util.logging )

I've developed a new Java(1.4) Stored Procedure in Oracle (10g). I've never done this before, I usually keep Java and the DB separated but this was a requisite. So I developed a Java code that can be deployed in Tomcat as well as a Stored Procedure in Oracle. For this I used the Java Logging API.
I can execute the stored procedure in Oracle, but I can't find the logs. I would like to know what should I do in order to print the logs, it can be to Oracle logs or trc files, or even, if possible, configure it to print the logs to another specific folder.
Does anyone know how to achieve this?
As appointed by PeskyGnat in this answer you have to create a logging.properties file in the folder:
$ORACLE_HOME/javavm/lib
After you configure this file, you can see the logs in:
$ORACLE_BASE/admin/$INSTANCE/udump
In my case, this was Solaris so the first path was:
/export/home/oracle/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/Db_1/javavm/lib
And the second one:
/export/home/oracle/app/oracle/admin/
As extra information, in order to make easy to find the log file you can type in Bash shell the following:
