Maven Dependency Nightmare (LinkageErrors)

So I am trying to build a web application when a common jar needs to be shared between all web apps. So I built the pom.xml and put the JAR in the Tomcat/lib folder. Its dependency section looks like this (the artifact ID of this is web-common):

Both of these are linked via a parent project.
Now when I deploy the WAR on Tomcat. While running the application, it starts throwing all sorts of errors NoClassDefFoundError, ClassNotFoundError to LinkageError, and everything under the sun of classes going haywire. Mostly it complains that it was not able to find classes from the dependencies I included. I can see all of them in the WAR's lib folder and entries in the MANIFEST file as well. First I started with the default scope (compile), but since it starts throwing exceptions I had to make all the dependencies provided and put them in the Tomcat/lib folder as well just to get it to work.
I think I must be doing something wrong, or is it the right way to go about it and is normal? I thought I read Maven well and good but it looks like there is a gap in my understanding somewhere.

Unresolved compilation problems when generating WAR file using maven [closed]

When I generate my WAR file using mvn clean install , some classes throw the following error msg:
public Person deletePers(String paramString1, String paramString2) {
throw new Error("Unresolved compilation problems: \n\tTransactional cannot be resolved to a type\n.......; }
But if I generate my WAR file in Eclipse (file > export as War File), I don't get the above error. Anyone know how to solve this?

Problem Part:
This is happening because eclipse is using its own compiler.
Eclipse has implemented its own compiler called as Eclipse Compiler for Java (ECJ).
It is different from the javac, the compiler that is shipped with Sun JDK. One notable difference is that the Eclipse compiler lets you run code that didn't actually properly compile.
If the block of code with the error is never ran, your program will run fine. Otherwise, it will throw an exception indicating that you tried to run code that doesn't compile.
Another difference is that the Eclipse compiler allows for incremental builds from within the Eclipse IDE, that is, all code is compiled as soon as you finish typing.

Solution Part:
Unfortunately,there is no quick way in Eclipse to switch to Javac (from Sun /Oracle). You cannot simply choose javac from a dropdown or similar in eclipse.
FYi: But this is very simple in IntelliJ IDEA.
But, you can achieve this using Ant tasks or External Tools Configuration.
Both the above approaches are clearly explained in this SO answers.

Could not publish to the server - java.lang.IndexOutOfBoundsException

I am not able to run my application. Whenever i start my server, it gives me "could not publish to the server" error. Can anybody help me please? I have been stuck in this problem from past 1 week.

Unable to resolve Spring Security classes in Maven project

I'm writing a blogging application in Java that is using Spring MVC and Spring Security. I've gotten Spring Security configured, but I'm running into an issue where my application cannot resolve any class in the org.springframework.security package. When I try to compile after importing anything from this package, I get the following error:
package org.springframework.security does not exist
Right now I'm trying to implement my own user service details class and I cannot import the UserServiceDetails interface as a result of this.

Is there anything obviously wrong with the pom that would result in there being a problem with importing anything in the org.springframework.security package?

Spring Security 3.2.0 relies on Spring Core 3.2.6. You're currently running core version 3.2.5.
You can check other dependencies for Spring Security here

Aggregation error in Spring Data MongoDB

I am currently writing a webapp for my university project. It's a system that allows to create, modify and take language tests. My teacher was interested in my question search module. For DB I use MongoDB. He asked me what if there were 5kk records to view in the browser? He advised me to do some aggregation in MongoDB.
I have to make a search method which will allow me to search by 1 to 5 criteria from the collection documents: category, question, difficulty, question type, number of correct answers. And of course view it in the browser.
At first I tried basic operations like making a new query with criteria, but I need it to work on any number of criteria not all or one. If 1 or more fields are empty they shouldn't be considered in the search, so I'm trying to do an aggregation, but I can't get it to work and don't know if what I am trying to acomplish is even possible with this method.
And here's my problem. In DAO I try to define a aggregation but it doesn't recognize group and where methods for the class(method is undefined).

I of course import the required libraries:

Those methods (where and group) are static and defined in the Criteria and Aggregation classes - you're just missing a static import.
