Why does TestRestTemplate throw RestClientException when original Rest method threw an exception

I am trying to test REST code that throws an Exception via #ControllerAdvice. However, my Junit test seems to throw a RestClientException when it attempts to convert the Response.
Prior to introducing protobuf for my DTO my test worked correctly.
With a breakpoint I can see the exception is being thrown successfully from this code.

I am currently having three Microservices.
A is a Producer, B an intermediate consumer that decrypts the data stream from A and C the final consumer that uses the decrypted data.

How to mock objects from other classes created during InjectMocks?

I want to test my saveEmployee method but the problem is during #InjectMocks, constructor of EmployeeBase class is called and fetchEmployees() method is called. This method aim is to fetch data from database to employees List in the EmployeeBase class. The problem is this method use fields from Constants class and I am getting following result when I run the program. How to mock it properly?

The root cause of your error is that #SpringBootTest can't see your custom spring beans defined in AmazonWebServiceTestContainer class (like amazonSQSAsync) and uses the ones provided by spring-cloud-aws.
So essentially your test is trying to use real AWS, not localstack.
To make localstack-aware beans visible they should be defined in a class annotated with #Configuration or #TestConfiguration. Mark AmazonWebServiceTestContainer with one of them as a quick fix.
If you prefer the second annotation (#TestConfiguration) you also need to import it:

How to disable Camel component in tests?

I have a Spring Boot + Camel project and want to test routes without using Kafka (which is the main bus). In order to have ligther tests I want to use only "direct" endpoints in tests.

You may need to add:

You will then need to remove any Kafka routes you've not mocked with something like:
