I have both Eclipse 3.5 and 3.6 on ubuntu 10.04. I am trying, actually attempting to install Spring IDE.
As usual, I install plug-ins on my galileo first before doing it on helios in case things break, since I actually use helios while galileos mostly languishes unused on my workstations. Which, in hind-sight (don't know why some people use the phrase hind-site), was a smart move, because I am stuck now.
As you can see, from my dry humour, I am rather frustrated now. So, pardon me for any unpardonable words or phrases that I might have used here. Here is my La Dolce Vita sequence of philandering with various eclipse update sites:
At [help: install new software] using [http://springide.org/updatesite], I selected all the choices to install. Have you ever wondered why [install new software] is under [help] menu because [help:install new software] does not actually provide any "help" documentation on installing software. It does not "help" you resolve all the missing requirements or where to find them.
The response was " ... cannot complete ... " and then took a long long long time generating a reason why it could not be completed even though I have a quad core 6gb machine. The reason was " ... mylyn feature not found ... ".
Then, I reduced my installation selection to only the three core items, and after a long^3 time, the reason for " ... cannot complete ... " was " ... mylyn something else ..." not found.
So I diverted the install to galileos update site and installed every mylyn item I could find. I had to restart eclipse. Then I went back to using springide update site to attempt installing only the top three core. This time, after another long^3 while, the reason for incompletability was " ... mylyn jira feature not found ...".
So I woogled and googled for "eclipse mylyn jira connector" which led me to Spring web site which makes some foreign key references to JIRA. At some point a site suggested that I installed http://download.eclipse.org/tools/mylyn/update/e3.4 to get jira???. I did as advised, and nope still " ... jira feature not found ..."
Somehow, surprisingly, when I googled "wtf is eclipse mylyn jira connector?" it pointed me to a site advising " jira has moved to atlassian ....". At that point, I was wondering ... why do i have to prefix expletives in my google search expression to get a useful answer?
To cut this episode of the story shorter, I installed every gastronomic item atlassian update site had to offer on the menu. I had to restart eclipse.
Still when tried installing Spring IDE again, just the top three items, the incompletability reason was again " ... jira feature not found ... ".
But if I selected every item to be installed, the incompletability reason was " ... something something eclipse ajdt not found ...".
At this point I have two crucial questions for which I need answers:
Is there a complete list of whatever I need to install and where to find them, in order to complete my Spring IDE installation successfully?
Should I trust Spring technology to be able to provide a hassle free route to mvp/mvc automation, if they cannot even provide comprehensive, useful and workable instructions on how to install their product? iow, Should I bother with Spring? Or, should I continue my current menial/manual method?
And a trivial question: When installing modules, netbeans resolves all the requirements for me, why doesn't eclipse?
Should I bother with Spring?
Yes, absolutely.
You don't need Spring IDE to get use out of Spring. If you're just learning Spring, why pile learning an IDE on top of it?
I'd put Spring IDE aside for now and just learn Spring itself. It's well worth the effort. Once you're familiar with it, move on to the IDE.
The answer, I found, lies in downloading the 187MB IDE installer from springsource.org, which has respective downloads for Eclipse 3.5, 3.6, 32 bit, 64 bit, Windows, Mac and Linux.
Like scala IDE, Spring IDE is hardcoded to certain Eclipse Platform micro release. Even though my Eclipse has the same release and down to the same release date and time, the micro-release identification was different from the one required/specified by the spring updates.
Therefore, even though SpringSource documents two ways of getting Spring IDE,
one by providing an update url for
your current Eclipse
download SpringSource's own Eclipse
IDE as a whole kabootle.
Method 1 is workable if you already had a previous Spring IDE installed.
Thousands apologies to SpringSource for my road rage.

First time with JavaFx. To begin with, I've made sure that my version of Java is, indeed, Java 13: Screenshot:
And, I've followed all the directions on the JavaFx tutorials: https://openjfx.io/openjfx-docs/#introduction
I've spent so many hours on this issue. I found similar problems, but the closest "solution" to my problem assumed that the VM customization was put in verbatim, but I have made sure to use the correct path. I have tried the tutorials for both modular and non-modular applications. I have customized everything, for the project itself to Appearance and Behavior preferences. I downloaded the separate JavaFx 13 file from via Gluon and made sure I was able to access them (I have a Mac, so this required a security override).
I have gone so far as to uninstall all Java and JavaFx libraries from my computer and reinstalled them.
After trying what seems to be everything, I have the same error :(
Screenshot:
Otherwise, if I try to toggle some, I'll get the classic (but dreaded) result:
"Error occurred during initialization of boot layer
java.lang.module.FindException: Module JavaFxProject not found"
Does anybody have some insight into this? I'd love to find out it was a tiny bug that I could easily eliminate, even though I've already spent so many hours trying to solve this problem myself.
Thanks in advance.
This is Anas here and I just wonder if one can share his though about windowsbuilder on eclipse. I installed it from help link through selecting SWT, GWT other plugins and all gone well but after a restart those plugins are not working. Precisely, Eclipse IDE is showing those links enabled but it takes me to interface asking to install some additional toolkits, again when I proceed, I met a repository not found error.
Hunting over web, I have tried -clean and checked my port address. Thanks for your comment!!
Well Anas,
I understood your problem so follow these simple steps to overcome this solutions
First install the Indigo[3.7.2] version Eclipse from this link:
http://download.eclipse.org/releases/indigo
And then go to eclipse--->Help---->InstallNewSoftware and paste the below link>
WindowBuilder[1.6] Pro Update Site - http://dl.google.com/eclipse/inst/d2wbpro/latest/3.7
And select WindowBuilder Specific Checkboxes and proceed accordingly.
After that if you want to do a simple example of using windowBuider
just go through this link it might be helpful for you in this regard:
http://help.eclipse.org/indigo/topic/org.eclipse.wb.doc.user/html/NewComponentsTutorial.pdf
In case still you are facing issues feel free to reach me SUNIL
Check over here for available WindowsBuilder versions:
https://www.eclipse.org/windowbuilder/download.php
Take a link, and pass it on Eclipse IDE's feature installer, which takes the URI. Aim for the version of the builder which is supported by that IDE version.
If you take the latest version of WindowsBuilder, it does not mean that the specific IDE does support it.
Best regards
I've just started to mess around with red5 , I can't say it was easy to get it run at the first place, but after a day on google I finally succeed.
The first thing I had to face is the poor documentation of this server. I couldn't find any good tutorials about making apps (I would pay for a good one, but still nothing) for it, but it doesn't matter since it's free.
I found this : Adobe TV . It's the best starting point I could find so far. The only thing is that I can't set up the same working enviroment as the guy has in the video. I understand it is eclipse (i have that) , and i know he is using flex plugin, but how do I get eclipse to debug mxml files as he does? (around 3.20 in the video) . I downloaded the flex plugin, but after I install it, eclipse stays exactly the same as before.
PLease note I am new to eclipse (and JAVA and flash -huhh... :D - ).
I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
There is one more IDE called FDT for flex app development. They are using eclipse. Worthy to try this IDE http://fdt.powerflasher.com/ this is available linux too. This is does not support red5 by native. But you can just simply create as java project.
I prefere the Flex Development to do with flashdevelop: http://www.flashdevelop.org/
it is a very nice openen source code editor. Configuration is really easy and takes just 1 Minute. The only thing to do is to configure the path of the flex sdk. Debugging is nice and i love the code completition feature.
Editor of PDT plugin jumbles the code and doesn't take responses in. I tried many things but didn't help at all. I was wondering what you guys are using to develop PHP applications for I am new to PHP. And I am a Java Programmer so I am more experience with Eclipse that is why I need to fix this issue.Below are few things I tried out
Reinstall PDT Plugin
Checked if Java editor works (it works perfectly)
I am out of solutions now and only think that I can think of is that Eclipse version is giving me trouble. I am using
Version: Indigo Release
Build id: 20110615-0604
OS : Ubuntu 11.04
PDT Version : PHP Development Tools (PDT) All-In-One SDK 3.0.0.v20110516-1100-77
I am going to include few screenshots too. The screenshots were taken when I clicked in different places of the screen. And sometimes what I type is not displaying at all. Another thing I want to mention is that I also have Aptana plugin installed and the PHP is not working properly in it too. So PDT plugin might not necessarily be the cause for it. Will removing Aptana for PHP help me?
I have asked this question on AskUbuntu at here I hope you don't mind the cross posting...
From your screenshot, it looks like you are using the PDT editor, and not the Aptana Editor.
What you need to do is to change the File Association and the Content Types to have the Aptana PHP Editor handle the PHP files in your project (you can do so from the preferences).
Also, since you have both PDT and Aptana installed, you need to make sure that your project was created using the right wizard. That is... if you want to use PDT, create the project using the PDT PHP project wizard, and if you want to use Aptana - Use Aptana PHP project wizard.
Basically, what happens behind the scenes when you create a project is a setup for the project 'nature' and 'builders' that each plugin looks at in order to function correctly. So, although you can install both on the same eclipse environment, you better of sticking to one from the start.
Note: Since you have Aptana installed, you can also change the nature after the project was created. Go to the project properties (right click the project and select properties) and then click the 'Project Natures' item. If you want Aptana, select the items that display 'PHP' and 'Web' (those items should have icons next to them. make PHP as primary.)
If you want the PDT, select the item that show 'org.eclipse.php...' (if I'm not mistaken), and make it primary.
Hope that helps.
This probably is not be the answer you are looking for, but I never liked the PDT plugin (and Aptana stopped supporting their own PHP editor several years ago, which was far better.)
For editing PHP, I switched to NetBeans. They have excellent PHP support, including refactoring, code completion with support for dynamic properties and methods, and more. Plus, you can simply download the PHP version of NetBeans and get started without much other configuration.
(I've since switched to IntelliJ IDEA because I am developing Grails apps, but it is also really awesome for PHP. However, the JetBrains products are not free.)
on WIN XP SP3 and Netbeans 6.7.1 IDE,
I have installed Java SDK 6.17 which includes JavaDB. I set the JavaDB directory to ...\Java\JavaDB at the Java installation script with %DERBY_HOME% set accordingly and %PATH% including %DERBY_HOME%\bin
Later on I installed GlassFish-V3 Prelude which - surprise surprise - comes with its own JavaDB and silently installs that into a JavaDB directory under the GlassFish path.
Q's
I don't want to have duplicates. Can
I remove one of these installations
without spoiling Netbeans.
How can I verify which of the two
JavaDB's Netbeans is actually using
Can I eventually configure GlassFish
in a way to use the JavaDB I
installed as part of the SDK
Thanks for any hints (as on superuser.com I didn't get any replies :-( )
I don't want to have duplicates. Can I remove one of these installations without spoiling Netbeans.
If really you want to remove one of them, I'd suggest to remove the one that comes with your JDK and to leave the one bundled with GlassFish v3 (GlassFish expects it to be there when using some commands which can be extremely handy, e.g. during development). But honestly, I wouldn't spend too much time for the 4.5 MB extra space used.
How can I verify which of the two JavaDB's Netbeans is actually using
To verify, go to the Services tab, expand the Databases node and right-click on Java DB and select Properties.... You should get the following window:
alt text http://netbeans.org/images_www/articles/65/ide/java-db/javadb-props.png
As documented in Working with the Java DB (Derby) Database, "If you have the GlassFish Server registered in your NetBeans IDE installation, Java DB will already be registered for you."
Can I eventually configure GlassFish in a way to use the JavaDB I installed as part of the SDK
I don't know, but... why would you do that, why is it such a concern, don't you think you're wasting your time? Now, as I said, if this is really an issue, remove the version bundled with your JDK instead.
PS: GlassFish v3 is out, GlassFish v3 prelude is outdated, you should upgrade.
MikeD!
After many years, I am using NetBeans again. As I realized many features are included but others get "lost". I am planning to install several versions.
In NetBeans 6.7.1, to know what version of Java DB NetBeans is using, right click the Java DB node and ckeck the properties.
The path next to the label Java DB Installation tells you what installation is currently in use.
The path next to the label Database Location is used as the value for the property derby.system.home. This property tells Java DB where to create/find the individual databases folders. Besides, this folder holds two files called derby.properties and derby.log.
*derby.properties* establishes persistently system-wide properties.
Do not worry about duplicates. As you can see NetBeans uses 1 at a time. Nevertheless, as a recommendation, choose an installation and stick to it. During my tests I changed the path to the Java DB Installation several times and played with the user authentication properties inside derby.properties and eventually NetBeans could not create new databases in the regular way. So, I had to re-install NetBeans (I use the OS independent zip).
Regarding GlassFish, I have not experimented yet. But, it is reasonable to think that there is some limited set of options about using a different version of Java DB. For example, NetBeans 6.7.1 Java DB support fails if you set the netbeans_jdkhome property so that it points to a JDK version equal or higher than 1.7.0. That tells us something, right?
I will try to tell you anything useful I find out during my tests.
