I've seen a few places where this was asked but I haven't seen where it's been resolved.
I've just installed the tools needed to develop Android applications. This includes, of course, Eclipse. When I try to open the res/main.xml file, I get the error 'could not initialize class java.awt.font'.
I'm running the newest version of Eclipse and all the software required for Android development. I'm running on Ubuntu 10.04 32bit.
Sun JDK and JRE are installed.
Any ideas?
Just right click on the XML file in the package explorer (your navigation pane) and go to "Open With" and then "XML Editor".
From that point, if you just want to look at the code, just above where eclipse puts the "Console" tab (nearer to the bottom of the eclipse window), you should see a small tab, which says "Source". Clicking on that will get you the pure code in the XML file.

To install indentation in Eclipse I dropped this IndentGuide jar in the dropins folder (I couldn't install it in the "Install Software..." option as it's not available any longer).
I restarted Eclipse and I see the IndentGuide customization screen, but java does not show in available content types:
The indentation works fine in text extensions, but does not work for java. I looked at the eclipse/configuration folder but couldn't find anything. Any ideas?
UPDATE
This is what I see under Text > Java:
Update preferences to make it work with Java files
I am currently learning the LibGDX game engine (version 1.9.4) and I keep running into a compiling error when trying to run my android version of my project. I did some research and found this article and followed the solution that was listed on that question but the same issues keep occurring log.txt.
I tried adding the core file directly to the build path like so but still the same issue.
Is there something I'm not understanding about the error message? If so what is it?
Thank you in advance.
Right Click your Android project->Properties->Java Build Path->Order and Exports Export all your jars that you are using.
still having problem running project on android check if JRE is set to 1.6.
Change the JRE from the main Java Project from 1.7 to 1.6 and try to run it on android.
Eclipse-> main-java-project--> Expand the directory--> Right click on JRE System library--> Check "Execution environment" --> select JavaES 1.6 jre6-> Click Ok
I am trying to debug a jar file I don't have source for, in Eclipse Luna
I have tried various decompilers, and can't get things to run.
The most recent seems to be JDEclipse-Realign at http://mchr3k.github.io/jdeclipse-realign/
It installs without any trouble. I have set set the default file association for "class without source" to be "Class File Editor" like this
I added the jar file to be debugged as an external jar to my project. And when I expand that and right click on a .class file I get what is shown on the web page for JDEclipse-Realign, with Decompiled Source as the default.
And I am getting the blue and white icons for JDEclipse-Realign when I select a class file.
But no decompiled source :( And clicking the blue icon for Attach Decompiled Source does nothing.
I feel like I must be missing one basic thing, but can't figure it out. No errors, just no source.
Or should I be using a different decompiler?
Are any known to work in Luna?
Faced the same problem on Luna and did the following:-
Open Eclipse Luna
Go to HELP -> Eclipse Marketplace
In the find box, type "jad". [stands for Java Decompiler]
You will get a single result titles something as "JadClipse for Eclipse ".
Click on Install and restart eclipse when prompted. Your issue will be fixed.
I have downloaded the JavaFx sample source codes and examined "Ensemble" codes. I have some interest on working on those animations, however when I have copied the source code and pasted into Netbeans, I get the following error.
-JavaFX deployment library not found.
I am not too familiar with Java, so would you please tell me how to integrate the codes into my own project? I think that I could not load the libraries.
Thank you.
Perhaps you have an older version of JavaFX installed and NetBeans is using this as "Default JavaFX Platform" (see NB-Menu Tools|Java Platforms) ?
The newest Ensemble is using the Canvas and this is not supported with older JavaFX (<2.2).
In this case deinstall all old versions and get the new Java7 with integrated JavaFX Runtime here http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javafx/downloads/index.html
You don't need to copy and paste the source codes yourself. In Netbeans click to "Open Project..." and navigate to <javafx_sample_dir>/src directory where the Ensemble will be detected as a Netbeans project. If you are interested in a particular component or feature, just run the Ensemble application and open the related component page and click the "Save NetBeans Project..." button then you can open it in Netbeans.
If you still facing that error try first to create a new javaFX project and run it in Netbeans.
I wanted to build Java Application using netbean platform but there were no any NetBeans platform to select from. And I could not add one using Manage button. How do I get started?
I am using Netbean 7.0
I'm unsure as to why your installation has become corrupted in this way but you can always add a Platform to your installation through Tools > NetBeans Platform menu item. Click the Add Platform... button and browse to your NetBeans' install directory, for example:
C:\Users\Me\Program Files (x86)\NetBeans 7.0
Then you should be able to select the platform in the wizard.
You should only need to select the top level directory for this to work. I've included a screenshot for you to compare yours to. It's possible that your installation of NetBeans has become corrupted and if you are not seeing the same behavior as pictured below then most likely you'll need to reinstall NetBeans.
Notice in the below screenshot that the Platform Name: is filled out (top red arrow) and the Next button is enabled.
