XML SAX Parser error: value must not contain the '<' character - pointing to TNS value without '<' character

I want to deploy war file into JBOSS6 with the following spring configuration:

I'm getting the same validation error when I used this online validation tool: http://www.xmlvalidation.com/
The error is clear - value must not contain the '<' character but the problem is that I do not see '<' character in this text pointed by the parser:

I tried to enclose this text with:
<![CDATA[ ]]>
but the result is the same.
Please help me what is wrong with this XML ?

Check your driver class name you have missed to close the quote.

I think it's the line above missing a close quote

It looks like you have simply gathered the content of two XML configuration files, but it doesn't work like this. As stated in a comment, webapp configuration must be set in web.xml, and Hibernate is usually set in hibernate.cfg.xml.

You PropertyPlaceHolder configuration is wrong.
change it to like this.

If still no luck, you try to use org.springframework.context.support.PropertySourcesPlaceholderConfigurer bean instead of org.springframework.beans.factory.config.PropertyPlaceholderConfigurer , since you are using Spring 3.2.x. As per the spec PropertySourcesPlaceholderConfigurer is replacement for PropertyPlaceholderConfigurer from Spring 3.1.x.

Had the same problem. I just downloaded the jar file aopalliance-1.0.jar and put it in WEB-INF/lib folder and it worked.

The first stacktrace says that an exception
org.springframework.beans.factory.BeanDefinitionStoreException: Unexpected exception parsing XML document from ServletContext resource [/WEB-INF/Employee-servlet.xml]
was caused by the exception:
java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org/aopalliance/intercept/MethodInterceptor
The latter's Javadoc writes:
Thrown if the Java Virtual Machine or a ClassLoader instance tries to load in the definition of a class (as part of a normal method call or as part of creating a new instance using the new expression) and no definition of the class could be found.
The searched-for class definition existed when the currently executing class was compiled, but the definition can no longer be found.
That is, the JVM can't find the class file for the class org.aopalliance.intercept.MethodInterceptor, even though that class is used by Spring.
The most likely cause is that the JAR file containing that class file is not part of the class path, because you haven't added it to the libraries of your eclipse project.
Update
The Spring Framework Reference Manual has a section on dependency management, but their description assumes you use a dependency management tool such as Maven, Gradle, or Ivy. I therefore recommend you use such a tool. It's not that hard (Maven is supported by Eclipse out of the box, you just need to use the "New Maven Project" wizard rather than the "New Java Project" wizard to create the project), and ensures that you have all dependencies Spring needs.

I was also getting the same error

Please add the aopalliance-1.0.jar in your classpath,the problem will be solved.

You need to add aopalliance jar which is at version 1.0 to you build path. You can get it here.
If you are using maven, add the dependency below to pom.xml

This problem can be resolved by upgrading spring to 4.3+
