I'm new to Android programming and wanted to start by creating a very basic app that displays the latitude and longitude of the current location on screen.
I'm developing for my Samsung Galaxy S3 and read that you need to kickstart the phone to return the GPS.
I've tried doing this in the onConnected() method with the requestLocationUpdates() method call on the LocationManager. However I find that the LocationClient is still returning a null location.
Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?
Here's my MainActivity:
import android.content.Context;
import android.location.Location;
import android.location.LocationListener;
import android.location.LocationManager;
import android.os.Bundle;
import android.support.v4.app.FragmentActivity;
import android.view.Menu;
import android.widget.TextView;
import android.widget.Toast;
import com.google.android.gms.common.ConnectionResult;
import com.google.android.gms.common.GooglePlayServicesClient;
import com.google.android.gms.location.LocationClient;
public class MainActivity extends FragmentActivity implements
GooglePlayServicesClient.ConnectionCallbacks,
GooglePlayServicesClient.OnConnectionFailedListener {
private LocationClient mLocationClient;
private Location mCurrentLocation;
#Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);
mLocationClient = new LocationClient(this, this, this);
}
#Override
protected void onStart() {
super.onStart();
mLocationClient.connect();
}
#Override
protected void onStop() {
mLocationClient.disconnect();
super.onStop();
}
#Override
public boolean onCreateOptionsMenu(Menu menu) {
// Inflate the menu; this adds items to the action bar if it is present.
getMenuInflater().inflate(R.menu.main, menu);
return true;
}
#Override
public void onConnectionFailed(ConnectionResult arg0) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
}
#Override
public void onConnected(Bundle arg0) {
Toast.makeText(this, "Connected", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();
LocationManager manager = (LocationManager) this
.getSystemService(Context.LOCATION_SERVICE);
manager.requestLocationUpdates(LocationManager.NETWORK_PROVIDER, 0, 0,
new LocationListener() {
#Override
public void onStatusChanged(String provider, int status,
Bundle extras) {
}
#Override
public void onProviderEnabled(String provider) {
}
#Override
public void onProviderDisabled(String provider) {
}
#Override
public void onLocationChanged(final Location location) {
}
});
mCurrentLocation = mLocationClient.getLastLocation();
TextView latTextView = (TextView) findViewById(R.id.latitude_text);
latTextView.setText(Double.toString(mCurrentLocation.getLatitude()));
TextView longTextView = (TextView) findViewById(R.id.longitude_text);
longTextView.setText(Double.toString(mCurrentLocation.getLongitude()));
}
#Override
public void onDisconnected() {
Toast.makeText(this, "Disconnected. Please re-connect.",
Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();
}
}
My Android manifest looks like this:
<uses-sdk
android:minSdkVersion="8"
android:targetSdkVersion="17" />
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION" />
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION" />

<intent-filter>
<action android:name="android.intent.action.MAIN" />
<category android:name="android.intent.category.LAUNCHER" />
</intent-filter>
</activity>
</application>
</manifest>
When running the debugger I find that mCurrentLocation is null after the call to mLocationClient.getLastLocation().
I'd be very grateful for any help!
mLocationClient.getLastLocation(); might return null if you don't have any last location saved by the device. If you read its documentation, it says;
It returns the best most recent location currently available.
If a location is not available, which should happen very rarely, null will be returned
Also inside the onLocationChanged method you might want to set the Location to the latest location, when your location gets changed.
#Override
public void onLocationChanged(final Location location) {
mCurrentLocation = location;
}

Below code does not work on Android 10 until you manually enable the location from settings. When I go through the Android 10 documentation, it says if you are fetching location from the visible activity, if that was the case you don't need any foreground service, that's the reason I haven't used any service here.
And also as per Android 10 guidelines, after permission getting granted I am calling getLastLocation function.
Implementation is like, on main activity I am fetching location coordinates.
Please help, where in the code am I going wrong?

Well there is a problem. Official documentation states that it can be null in some cases
https://developer.android.com/training/location/retrieve-current
Location is turned off in the device settings. The result could be null even if the last location was previously retrieved because disabling location also clears the cache.
The device never recorded its location, which could be the case of a new device or a device that has been restored to factory settings.
Google Play services on the device has restarted, and there is no active Fused Location Provider client that has requested location after the services restarted. To avoid this situation you can create a new client and request location updates yourself. For more information, see Receiving Location Updates.
In your case you can get location only if GPS is ON. Even for last known location.
https://developer.android.com/training/location/retrieve-current#last-known
Please add this permission in AndroidManifest.xml
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.INTERNET" />
and add this to application tag
android:usesCleartextTraffic="true"
Iam new to the android programming environment and am creating my first app. I am trying to get webview to open google maps when a google maps link is clicked within webview. Am I missing something as to why this is still opening the link in webview and not executing google maps instead? if( url.startsWith("http:") || url.startsWith("https:") ) {
was preventing google maps from opening as it was forcing any url with https to stay within the webview. modified it to
if( url.startsWith("http:")) {
and all is good now.
I want to programing app for data track in background , so I use service .
I want to write a program that monitors all data sent and received by the device, and when the total volume of received or received messages reaches a specified value, the Internet device is turned off.
So I used the following code to monitor the data:
mStartRX = TrafficStats.getTotalRxBytes ();
mStartTX = TrafficStats.getTotalTxBytes ();
And I used the services to work on the background in the background.
To specify the download or upload limit from the user with edittext, I requested this limit in mainactivity and send this value to the service.
The problem is when: When I destroy the program, I will restart the service and get the NULL value and the program crashes.

please help me ...
The problem is with this line
public long dl=MainActivity.DLL;
You're referring to a variable in the Activity, surly when the Activity is destroyed, this variable is no longer in scope, thus you get Null Exception.
You must get this value using the intent.
The other problem is that you can't prevent any service from being killed by the system except foreground services which need to show a notification to the user. But this is not suitable for your situation.
Therefore, the best approach for you is to check whether intent is null or not. If it is not null, you get the value and save it into Preferences or Database or somewhere, if it is null, you retrieve the value from where you stored it before.

This code is not working. The service starting when the startService calling in MainActivity. But when a dialer open it not working.
I think maybe you can try changing getApplication () to MainActivity.this.
And I think you need to jump from the dialer to MainActivity to get the service started
So I just started working on this project and part of it is sending packages of information from an app in Java to another Unity app.
I have been trying to follow this tutorial but I have problems getting it to work and even somewhat understanding it a bit since I have not worked with Java before.
Here is the current code I have so far.

I realise this is a massively large post but I simply do not know what to do at this point and am somewhat considering backing out of the project for the fact that I have no idea how to get Java to communicate with Unity.
Thanks in advance.
