trying to connect to the mysql server on tomcat6: java.net.UnknownHostException - java

I having some trouble to connect to my mysql server from my java/scala worker.
Here is the stack trace I got:
The last packet sent successfully to the server was 0 milliseconds ago. The driver has not received any packets from the server.

It works fine until a certain point, the worker is unable to resolve the host. If I restart the worker, it is working again.
Important thing: I am able to ping the host from the machine!
I tried to use ipv4 instead with Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true but I got the same error with the ipv4 stack.
I don't have any clue so far! Thanks for your help guys!

There can be multiple reasons for this Well it might happen if you do not manage your connection pool properly. in the sense if you are maintaining a connection pool yourself (or say using apache dhcp or something), then either you have too many connections open that everything gets blocked or not managing the resources well.
Another reason can be this: (It happened with us over a month back). When too many long queries were being executed at once. We did some optimizations on procedure side and things started working (By disabling read locks).

CXF + Problem writing SAAJ model to stream

I trying to touch some service outside with CXF 3.0.0.
But got very strange behavior like sometimes it is working and sometimes it is failing with stacktrace attached (it can process multiple requests before failing). Request body is the same. Code for sending request is the same.
Any advice about this?
There are some logs attached. Left side with success, right with case when request was failed.

Found the issue. Our request happens via proxy, these proxy servers are load balanced across multiple data centers. One of the data centers is not configured correctly, that’s why the connection cannot be established. Then our request gets timed out intermittently.

Java SocketException: Broken pipe with Mysql-connection

I am using Spring-batch to read Mysql data.
These following are my spring data configuration:
spring.datasource.batch.driverClassName=com.mysql.jdbc.Driver
spring.datasource.batch.url=jdbc:mysql://192.162.155.11:3306/my_db?autoReconnect=true&verifyServerCertificate=false&useSSL=false&requireSSL=false

spring.batch.page.size=500000
spring.batch.allow.start.if.complete=true
spring.listener.message.ms=10
spring.batch.executor.pool=5
I run a scheduler after every 2 seconds which checks for any new row in MySQL and start the spring batch if any new data found in Mysql.
I am successfully able to read data from Mysql but the problem is that after some time I am getting this below error:

First: phpmyadmin is a tool for administring databases. It seems to be completely irrelevant to the question. (Although it might be useful for debugging)
In order to debug this issue, double check that the following are correct:
host
port
Database name
username
password
Double check that you can actually access the server, e.g. by pinging it, or by using telnet to connect to the host/port.
If all this doesn't help, set a breakpoint at Util.java line 389 or in the try block before see, what actually is happening and failing.

Socket Write Error in a Spring-boot application

I've created a spring-boot application and it's hosted in Amazon EC2.
The problem seems to be with a experired connection with MySQL database.
After some idle time the error below happens, and my webservice returns error 500.
I would like to know if there's a configuration property that I could add to avoid this error.

My configuration properties have these properties so far:
spring.datasource.url=xxxx
spring.datasource.username=xxx
spring.datasource.password=xxxx
spring.datasource.driverClassName=com.mysql.jdbc.Driver

server.port=80

spring.datasource.min-evictable-idle-time-millis=10000
I suggest you check the javadocs for the DataSource that you are using. If it's the Tomcat DataSource which is the default if it's on the classpath, you can set
spring.datasource.validationQuery=SELECT 1
spring.datasource.testOnBorrow=true
(for instance). Other data source implementations have similar properties and Spring Boot just binds to them via spring.datasource.*.

connecting to mysql database failing

Most recent problem is "Third Error" listed below.
I am working on an application in java that needs to connect to a database. Below is the code that i am using to attempt to connect to the database. The port is 3306 and i have the database set up on a machine here at my house on the network. For the ip address i am just using my external ip address to the world. The username and password were replaced for my protection. In my /etc/mysql/my.cnf, "bind_address" is commented out.
I have tried several things and can not seem to get this to work. This is my first time using JDBC... thanks for any help! Let me know if you need more information.
Class.forName("com.mysql.jdbc.Driver").newInstance();
System.out.println("before connection");
connect = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:mysql://ip-address/mjla_db", "username", "password");
System.out.println("connection established");
Here is the error that i keep getting:
The last packet sent successfully to the server was 0 milliseconds ago. The driver has not received any packets from the server.

Third error
When trying to access the database with the external ip address on an external network, i get the same error that i had initially.
I am using the "%" wild card for the Host of the username i am using for the application to authenticate to the database.
#Dave Newton: I was making the assumption that my firewall still had the port open for mysql, because i just got through working on a project where i did the same thing. However, i must have closed it a couple months ago. I checked a few minutes ago and it was disabled. So, i enabled and it is working fine now. Not sure why it had been closed...
Are you sure that the IP address in getConnection is correct? Can you try with
telnet youserver 3306
to see if there is a connection problem? Is there a firewall on the server?
Class.forName("com.mysql.jdbc.Driver");
Connection conn = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:mysql://127.0.0.1:3306/student", "root", "root");
just try it
