My IDE(intelliJ) complains that "Could not autowire no beans of type WebApplicationContext found", and when I run the tests it fails while creating mockMvc;
"ClassNotFoundException:org.springframework.web.context.request.async.CallableProcessingInterceptor
Any Ideas what should be missing?
This is how my test application context file looks like;
<context:annotation-config />
<mvc:annotation-driven />
<context:property-placeholder location="
file:src/main/resources/conf/${user.name}/my.properties,
file:src/main/resources/conf/${user.name}/my-junit.properties"/>
<context:component-scan base-package="my.main.package"/>
<import resource="classpath:META-INF/SomeOtherContext.xml"/>
And this is how my test class looks like;
#RunWith(SpringJUnit4ClassRunner.class)
#WebAppConfiguration
#ContextConfiguration({
"file:/src/test/resources/META-INF/MyTestContext.xml"
})
public class ServiceTest {
#Autowired
private WebApplicationContext context;
#Before
public void init() throws NoSuchFieldException {
this.mockMvc = MockMvcBuilders.webAppContextSetup(this.context).build();
}
}
And POM file is something like this(below is a combination of parent and child POM to show the content);

The first step to debug this: Write a unit test which loads the class as a resource, i.e.:
#Test
public void testClassLoading() {
Enumeration<URL> urls = getClass().getClassLoader().getResources("org/springframework/web/context/request/async/CallableProcessingInterceptor.class");
int count = 0;
while( urls.hasMoreElements() ) {
System.out.println( urls.nextElement() );
count ++;
}
assertEquals( "Expected this class exactly once", 1, count );
}
I have a couple of these in my unit tests to prevent against simple class path issues (duplicate or missing dependencies).
Note: This must be a standalone unit test class. If Spring fails to initialize, it's possible that no test methods can be run.
Now you found that the test return 0 which means the class isn't on the classpath.
The second step is then to find which JAR contains this class: Go to http://search.maven.org/#advancedsearch%7Cgav and enter the class name into the correct field.
The search yields that this class is in org.springframework:spring-web:jar:3.2.x.RELEASE and not in 3.1.
Conclusion: Something is wrong with your class path. You probably mix Spring versions. Don't do that.
Second Answer after Parent POM Added
Your parent POM is pulling in multiple versions of the Spring Framework. Specifically:
Parent POM:
<dependency>
<groupId>org.springframework</groupId>
<artifactId>spring-mock</artifactId>
<version>2.0.8</version>
<scope>test</scope>
<exclusions>
<exclusion>
<artifactId>commons-logging</artifactId>
<groupId>commons-logging</groupId>
</exclusion>
</exclusions>
</dependency>
<dependency>
<groupId>org.springframework</groupId>
<artifactId>spring-test</artifactId>
<version>3.2.0.RELEASE</version>
<scope>test</scope>
</dependency>
Project POM
<dependency>
<groupId>org.springframework</groupId>
<artifactId>spring-web</artifactId>
<version>3.1.1.RELEASE</version>
</dependency>
You can not mix framework library versions.
Original Answer
Aaron's answer is very useful to debug. M. Deinum's comment above might also be quite
relevant, as I'm not longer certain the missing class is included in 3.1. I can't find it until 3.2 was released. It's possible that you have conflicting jars due to messing with versions while debugging.
Perhaps try 'mvn clean' then 'mvn dependency:copy-dependenciesormvn package`. You can then review the complete list of jar files that maven thinks that you need. In particular, check for mismatched or duplicate versions of the Spring libraries.
You mention using an IDE as the beginning of your question. Perhaps your IDE is not configured to use the complete maven dependency list in it's classpath when running tests.

First, you cannot upgrade Spring for Spring Boot as that is tied to a specific Spring major version. To upgrade Spring you would need to upgrade to a newer Spring Boot version.
Secondly, your dependencies are a mess. A lot of exclusions that aren't needed and additional dependencies that aren't needed either.
A cleaned up version

</dependency>
This is for the Spring (Boot) dependencies. Remove the spring.version and spring-security.version unless you really want to override it (which can be done within the same major version!) but you are probably better of using a new Spring Boot version (update the version of the parent).
There are probably a lot more dependencies (the spring-boot-starter-data-jpa already pulls in hibernate, so you can probably remove that explicit one as well).

I've set the classloader order to PARENT_LAST and the WAS class loader policy to SINGLE (the .ear contains only one .war module).
There seems to be a conflict between the dependencies in the application library and those provided by the web application server, but don't know how to solve it. Below are the dependencies declared in the project .pom:

I scoured this and other forums but so far I haven't found a solution to this issue. Do you have any idea how to solve this?
After a few attempts, we managed to find a workaround for this issue. The solution that worked for us is:
Revert the WAR class-loader policy setting to "Class loader for each WAR file in application" (aka MULTIPLE) which is the standard option.
Exclude all transitive dependencies to javax.servlet-api. There were other internal dependencies in the pom that had different versions of servlet-api as a transitive dependency and were not matching with the server library, so we excluded them.
Add servlet-api as an explicit dependency with scope "test":
<dependency>
<groupId>javax.servlet</groupId>
<artifactId>javax.servlet-api</artifactId>
<version>4.0.1</version>
<scope>test</scope>
</dependency>
After that, the application started and worked fine. I hope it helps someone who faces a similar issue.
I am using spring 4.3.17 RELEASE with Hibernate 5.2.16.FINAL and java8

now, this how I configure project:
#Configuration("appConfig")
#ComponentScan(value = "com.nws.vedica", lazyInit = true)
#PropertySource({"classpath:swagger.properties", "classpath:vedica.properties"})
#ApplicationPath("/api")
#EnableJpaAuditing(auditorAwareRef="auditorProvider")
public class VedicaConfig extends ResourceConfig {
public VedicaConfig() {
packages("com.nws.vedica");
property(ServletProperties.FILTER_FORWARD_ON_404, true);
register(MultiPartFeature.class);
register(JacksonFeature.class);
// register(MOXyJsonProvider.class);
register(ValidationFeature.class);
register(ValidationConfigurationContextResolver.class);
register(PropertySourcesPlaceholderConfigurer.class);
register(ApiListingResource.class);
register(SwaggerSerializers.class);
}
#Bean
AuditorAware<String> auditorProvider() {
return new AuditorAware<String>() {
#Override
public String getCurrentAuditor() {
return "qwer";
}
};
}
#Bean
public PersistenceExceptionTranslationPostProcessor exceptionTranslation() {
return new PersistenceExceptionTranslationPostProcessor();
}
}
Now, my big, annoying, problem is that when I return an entity that has lazy-fetching entities in it I get WARNING: com.fasterxml.jackson.databind.JsonMappingException: (was java.lang.NullPointerException) (through reference chain: com.nws.vedica.model.entity.PartyKind["doc2"]->com.nws.vedica.model.entity.Document2["docType"]->com.nws.vedica.model.entity.DocType["validityRule"]->com.nws.vedica.model.entity.ValidityRule["validFrom"])
Exception.
Okey, I went through many articles and threads that told me I have to use
<dependency>
<groupId>com.fasterxml.jackson.datatype</groupId>
<artifactId>jackson-datatype-hibernate5</artifactId>
<version>2.8.4</version>
</dependency>
package to make jackson initialize my entities (which are all FetchType.EAGER, so I don't really know why is this happening).
So when I add jackson-datatype-hibernate5 dependency and register it in config as follows:
#Bean
public Module datatypeHibernateModule() {
return new Hibernate5Module();
}
But I am still getting the same exception. My opinion is that I need different datatype-hibernate5 hibernate package for jersey but cannot find which. or register it differently.
Can you advice how to make this work?
Thanks
It doesn't look like you're using Spring Boot. The Module as a Spring bean is something that will only work with Spring Boot. If you want to configure Jackson with Jersey you should use a ContextResolver where you can configure the ObjectMapper.
#Provider
public class ObjectMapperContextResolver implements ContextResolver<ObjectMapper> {
private final ObjectMapper mapper;
public ObjectMapperContextResolver() {
mapper = new ObjectMapper();
mapper.registerModule(new Hibernate5Module());
}
#Override
public ObjectMapper getContext(Class<?> type) {
return mapper;
}
}
Then register it with Jersey
register(ObjectMapperContextResolver.class);
I'm building some test cases with JUnit to test my application, but when I try to run them I get the error:
SLF4J: Failed to load class "org.slf4j.impl.StaticLoggerBinder".
SLF4J: See http://www.slf4j.org/codes.html#StaticLoggerBinder for further details.
The thing is that when I run my app I don't get that error, just when I run the test cases...
My app is built with Spring + Hibernate + Java 6

Any ideas?
As the error message says clearly:
See http://www.slf4j.org/codes.html#StaticLoggerBinder for further details.
... which says:
This error is reported when the org.slf4j.impl.StaticLoggerBinder class could not be loaded into memory. This happens when no appropriate SLF4J binding could be found on the class path. Placing one (and only one) of slf4j-nop.jar, slf4j-simple.jar, slf4j-log4j12.jar, slf4j-jdk14.jar or logback-classic.jar on the class path should solve the problem.
As of SLF4J version 1.6, in the absence of a binding, SLF4J will default to a no-operation (NOP) logger implementation.
So the fix is to add a Maven dependency corresponding to one of those to the POM file. The only wrinkle is that you need this dependency to have scope of "test".
You need to include a back end for slf4j. Slf4j is a facade, which redirects to a logging framework such as log4j or logback. Add something like the following to the dependencies:
<dependency>
<groupId>org.slf4j</groupId>
<artifactId>slf4j-log4j12</artifactId>
<version>${slf4j.version}</version>
</dependency>
In my, probably, rare case, the problem was that there was a number of extra jars in the C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jreV.V.V_VVV\lib\ext that should not have been there (someone put them there) including the file slf4j-api-1.7.12.jar.
Just delete slf4j-api-V.V.VV.jar from ...ext\lib to avoid this error.
