I have a lot of info to put on one xml page. Now i got what I want in the positions i want. However instead of fitting all my data on 3 key parts without running into each other, It keeps running into the next TextView. I was wondering how to have it auto adjust.
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:orientation="vertical" >
<Button
android:id="#+id/back_button"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_alignParentBottom="true"
android:layout_centerHorizontal="true"
android:text="#string/back" />
<TextView
android:id="#+id/makeup_title"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_alignParentLeft="true"
android:layout_below="#+id/info_title"
android:layout_marginTop="97dp"
android:text="#string/part_section_2" />
<TextView
android:id="#+id/part_info"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"

android:text="put text here for safety" />
<TextView

<TextView

would ScrollView work better? and how would switch this from this to ScrollView.
skin is 480x800
density is high(240)

Changing to ScrollView (source):
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<ScrollView xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:orientation="vertical" >
<RelativeLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent" >
<!-- your Button and TextView widgets -->
</RelativeLayout>
</ScrollView>
Edit:
As well as that, try changing your back button XML to this:
<Button
android:id="#+id/back_button"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_below="#+id/part_safety"
android:layout_centerHorizontal="true"
android:layout_marginTop="50dp"
android:text="#string/back" />
The problem was android:layout_alignParentBottom="true". The bottom ended up not going to the bottom of the page like you had before. The ScrollView cut back on the bottom of the layout.

The image is covering the textView and buttons(I cant even see them at all so I'm guessing they are behind the image). Image is attached. I want the textview and buttons to appear below the imageview. Below is my xml file.
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:orientation="vertical"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent"
>
<ImageView
android:id="#+id/imageView9"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:scaleType="fitStart"
android:src="#drawable/bw" />
<EditText
android:id="#+id/name"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_below="#+id/imageView1"
/>
<Button
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:text="New Button"
android:id="#+id/button" />
<Button
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:text="New Button"
android:id="#+id/button2" />
</LinearLayout>
You can change the main layout to RelativeLayout, set the ImageView at the top and wrap the views below the ImageView, inside a separate layout.
By setting android:layout_above="#+id/linear" for the ImageView, you will be sure that the ImageView will never cover the other views.
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:orientation="vertical">
<ImageView
android:id="#+id/imageView9"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_above="#+id/linear"
android:layout_alignParentTop="true"
android:scaleType="fitStart"
android:src="#drawable/bw" />
<LinearLayout
android:id="#+id/linear"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_alignParentBottom="true"
android:orientation="vertical"
android:gravity="center_horizontal">
<EditText
android:id="#+id/name"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content" />
<Button
android:id="#+id/button"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:text="New Button" />
<Button
android:id="#+id/button2"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:text="New Button" />
</LinearLayout>
</RelativeLayout>
Try changing the parent layout to a RelativeView, or a ConstraintView. If you don't want to redo your positioning of your layout, you can wrap everything except the Image in a LinearLayout.
<RelativeView>
<ImageView>
<LinearLayout>
//...All your stuff
</LinearLayout>
<RelativeView>
This isn't one way of course, try to experiment. Feel free to ask if you still encounter problems.
I have uploaded a screenshot of the problem please check...
the text in the textview and the buttons gets over each other. I have used html for the text and scrollbar for it.....Please Help!!!!
Here's my code:
xml:
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:background="#drawable/images"
tools:context="com.example.acer.aartisangrah.alaganraya">
<ScrollView
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:gravity="center">
<TextView
android:id="#+id/textView4"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_alignParentLeft="true"
android:layout_alignParentStart="true"
android:layout_alignParentTop="true"
android:gravity="center"
android:textAppearance="?android:attr/textAppearanceLarge" />
</ScrollView>
<Button
android:id="#+id/b2"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_alignParentBottom="true"
android:onClick="decrease"
android:text="Decrease" />
<Button
android:id="#+id/b1"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_alignParentBottom="true"
android:layout_alignParentRight="true"
android:onClick="increase"
android:text="Increase" />
</RelativeLayout>
Here for the Text View I have used HTML
CODE:
tv=(TextView)findViewById(R.id.textView4);
tv.setTextSize((float) 18.0);
tv.setText(Html.fromHtml(getString(R.string.five)));
please note that the textsize of text in the text view can be increased or decreased....
It is because you have not specified the alignment order for your views.
Eg : You can use android:layout_above="#+id/btn" or android:layout_below="#+id/scrollbar for arranging views.
Make your code like this :
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:background="#drawable/images"
android:orientation="vertical"
tools:context="com.example.acer.aartisangrah.alaganraya">
<ScrollView
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="0dp"
android:layout_weight="1"
android:gravity="center">
<TextView
android:id="#+id/textView4"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:gravity="center"
android:textAppearance="?android:attr/textAppearanceLarge" />
</ScrollView>
<RelativeLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content">
<Button
android:id="#+id/b2"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:onClick="decrease"
android:text="Decrease" />
<Button
android:id="#+id/b1"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_alignParentRight="true"
android:layout_alignParentEnd="true"
android:onClick="increase"
android:text="Increase" />
</RelativeLayout>
Just add these in your layout -
<ScrollView...
android:id=#+id/scroll_view>
...
<Button
android:id="#+id/b2"
android:layout_below=#id/scroll_view
.../>
<Button
android:id="#+id/b1"
android:layout_below=#id/scroll_view
android:layout_toRightof=#id/b1
.../>
Here's the Layout xml file:

</ScrollView>
And Here's the expecting output:
The expected output is : I have some items in lstUsers and there wouldn't be enough space for displaying all the users, so I would like to add a scrollview to the Layout to let users scroll down.
But the problem is: the scrollview doesn't wrap any controls at all, the outcome is:
As you can see, the scrollview is unable to wrap the lstUser
Is there anything wrong with the layout file?
I don't think you are allowed to put a listview in a scrollview. Listview implements its own scroller so it doesn't like being in a scrollview. Take a look at this link
How can I put a ListView into a ScrollView without it collapsing?
Scrollview and Listview do not work well with each other.
What I would suggest u is to make 'lstUsers' Listview the main content of the layout file.
Create a separate layout file with the views that are above the listview.
Then inflate this layout file and add it as a header view to the listview.
Hello stackoverflow members. i am trying to achieve this:http://imgur.com/dqwOAOf
But for some reason the two texts cant take these positions like this http://imgur.com/lyYg8Ei
Could anyone explain what i am doing wrong?
and please forgive my artistic talents.
i have added the whole xml file.
The idea is that the two textviews timer and typegekookt are displayed in the center of backgroundtypegekookt evenly spaced out.
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>

Instead of using the ImageView android:id="#+id/backgroundtypegekookt", use a RelativeLayout (or a LinearLayout) with that background (android:background="#drawable/timerwijzer"), and put your TextViews in it
This is what I mean:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<RelativeLayout
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:id="#+id/eggContainer"

<ImageView
android:id="#+id/eggtimerimage"

android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:gravity="center_vertical"
/>
<LinearLayout
android:id="#+id/backgroundtypegekookt"
android:background="#drawable/timerwijzer"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_centerHorizontal="true"
android:layout_centerInParent="true"
android:orientation="vertical"
>
<TextView
android:id="#+id/typegekookt"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="0dp"
android:layout_weight="1"
android:text="zacht"
android:textSize="20sp"
android:textStyle="bold"
android:textColor="#android:color/black"
android:layout_centerHorizontal="true"
/>
<TextView
android:id="#+id/timer"
android:below="#id/typegekookt"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="0dp"
android:layout_weight="1"
android:text="10:00"
android:textSize="22sp"
android:textStyle="bold"
android:textColor="#android:color/black"
android:layout_centerHorizontal="true"
/>
</LinearLayout>
<!-- You can use 2 Views instead of 2 TextViews, more efficiently -->
<!-- Anyway, in your screenshots I only see 1 - I guess you'll have to fix that -->
<TextView
style="?android:listSeparatorTextViewStyle"
android:id="#+id/divider1"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_alignParentBottom="true"
android:layout_marginBottom="-30dp"
/>
<TextView
style="?android:listSeparatorTextViewStyle"
android:id="#+id/divider2"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"

I also fixed the deprecated fill_parent to match_parent and #+id (anticipated reference) to #id (reference), where needed.
Also see my comments in the layout avout the 2 last views.
For some reason when I change the id of some buttons in xml files it changes the name of buttons in other xml files, this breaks the program, can someone explain what is happening here, are they perhaps linked somehow?
