So, you have a
CommunicationsException: Communications link failure
I'm quoting from this answer which also contains a step-by-step MySQL+JDBC tutorial:
If you get a SQLException: Connection refused or Connection timed out or a MySQL specific CommunicationsException:
Communications link failure, then it means that the DB isn't reachable at all. This can have one or more of the following causes:
1. IP address or hostname in JDBC URL is wrong.
2. Hostname in JDBC URL is not recognized by local DNS server.
3. Port number is missing or wrong in JDBC URL.
4. DB server is down.
5. DB server doesn't accept TCP/IP connections.
6. DB server has run out of connections.
7. Something in between Java and DB is blocking connections, e.g. a
firewall or proxy.
To solve the one or the other, follow the following advices:
1. Verify and test them with ping.
2. Refresh DNS or use IP address in JDBC URL instead.
3. Verify it based on my.cnf of MySQL DB.
4. Start the DB.
5. Verify if mysqld is started without the --skip-networking option.
6. Restart the DB and fix your code accordingly that it closes
connections in finally.
7. Disable firewall and/or configure firewall/proxy to allow/forward
the port.

I have JSF web application that uses Hibernate. I have MySql server on the same machine I'm developing. I was using localhost Glassfish server until now and everything worked fine. Then I decided to try and install Glassfish on RaspberryPi and use it as web server instead. So far so good, web application is deploying and I can access it in the browser. The problem happens when it tries to initialize Hibernate. It's throwing java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused. I also tried to connect with mysql command (from raspberry) using same parameters given in the hibernate.cfg.xml and it works fine (so parameters are good). I have no idea what's wrong...
Machine that has MySql and is used for development is using Windows 10, and raspberry is using Raspbian.

I'll also add that I used Wireshark to track traffic on 3306 port on machine that has MySql and there's nothing when I use hibernate (but there is when I use mysql from terminal). I guess that problem is not in the MySql server since no traffic is reaching machine.
I have an issue with my applications using oracle RDBMS version 12.1.0.2.0.

And the rest are standalone applications using JDBC.
I already checked the listener logs and according to them, the application never sent a request (B scenario).
Please note that the application retries one second later and successfully connects and that the applications are deployed within the same network.
Can you please help identifying the cause of it ?
Thank you.
(A): The error indicates that the socket has been gracefully closed. This could be a micro network outage or it could be a firewall somewhere in the middle between the app and the Database that closes a socket when it detects no activity for more than x seconds. It may help to turn on keep alive by setting the oracle.net.keepAlive connection property to true. Note that this property can also be set as a Java system property using -D.
(B): The listener may refuse socket connection attempts if a rate limit has been configured which helps during logon storms. A proper client should retry with some delay. The JDBC thin driver in 12.1.0.2 supports these two parameters in the URL (values are in seconds). For example:
(DESCRIPTION_LIST=
(DESCRIPTION=
(CONNECT_TIMEOUT=10)(RETRY_COUNT=3)(RETRY_DELAY=3)
(ADDRESS_LIST=
(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=myhost1)(PORT=1521))
(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=myhost2)(PORT=1521)))
(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVICE_NAME=example1.com)))
(DESCRIPTION=
(CONNECT_TIMEOUT=60)(RETRY_COUNT=1)(RETRY_DELAY=5)
(ADDRESS_LIST=
(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=myhost3)(PORT=1521))
(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=myhost4)(PORT=1521)))
(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVICE_NAME=example2.com))))

I have Created two Java SOAP Webservices in Netbeans. Basically each service is a different Web App having its own war file. I Invoke the first WS from Java Client and The second service is invoked from the First service. These are working perfectly fine when I am using 3 machines to run in a LAN. Client, Service1 and Service2 on 3 Seperate machines. Now I have deployed the services on Jelastic Cloud. The first service gets invoked from Client. But when the First service is trying to invoke the second service I get the below Error.
I copy pasted the wsdl url in browser. The WSDL is available and accessible. So I am sure this is not an issue of Server not being deployed or wrong URL.

The GlassFish in Jelastic is listening 8080 port, and all requests to 80 port are redirected to the 8080 via the iptables rules.
Your requests are going trought local interface and PREROUTING rule isn't used by the loopback interface.
We have added OUTPUT rule for your case and all work as it should for now.
Also, we have created an improvement to add OUTPUT rule by deafault. As a workaraund you can specify 8080 port in your requests from local GF nodes: http://multipurpose.jelastic.servint.net:8080/ProxyServer/ProxyServerService?wsdl.
I use server Tomcat + HttpServlet + hibernate. I test the server performance, for this, I created an application that simulates the operation 500 clients, each client with a periodicity repeats HTTP requests to the server.
when requests connection = 900 (+-100) i start getting hibernate errors

please help, any ideas ...
The specific problem is:
Caused by: java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused: connect
This shows that when PgJDBC attempted to open a TCP/IP socket to the PostgreSQL server the connection was rejected.
This doesn't happen when the PostgreSQL server is overloaded; it'll instead accept the connection for long enough to reply with an error mentioning "too many connections" or "max_connections". When I tested with psql against Pg 9.3-HEAD I got:
FATAL: sorry, too many clients already
Similarly, if authentication is a problem, PostgreSQL will accept the connection, reply with an error message, and close the connection, like:
FATAL: no pg_hba.conf entry for host "[local]", user "craig", database "postgres"
or:
FATAL: password authentication failed for user "craig"
What you are seeing is a lower level issue in your OS or networking stack. It's happening before PostgreSQL gets a chance to accept the connection. Since you have not mentioned your operating system, whether the Pg server is local or remote to the app server, or pretty much anything else it's hard to help further with that. I'd start by:
Checking the PostgreSQL logs for errors about accept() or anything else unusual-looking
Investigating any TCP/IP connection limits and max open file limits in the operating system
Making sure I wasn't using any kind of dodgy 3rd party software firewall or "Internet security" suite
Furthermore, you should investigate using a connection pooler - either an in-app one, or an external pooler like PgPool-II, allowing you to reduce max_connections to an efficient level. PostgreSQL will perform better with fewer connections; the ideal number depends on workload and hardware. See PostgreSQL wiki: Number of database connections.
We are running SpringMVC with Hibernate on a clustered Weblogic environment. Our application worked well, until we run into database space problems. Due to that, our DB provider extended the database storage.
After that change the Weblogic system status is complaining about the thread pool "Thread pool has stucked threads".
The stack-trace in the log file looks as follows:
<Error> <WebLogicServer> <BEA-000337> <[STUCK] ExecuteThread: '12' for queue: 'weblogic.ke

We already have restarted Weblogic, the database server and made a new deployment. The problem is always the same: When we try to access the login page of the application it hangs up - as far as I can see while trying to perform a DB transaction.
In addition to that, when I try to connect to our database with "Oracle SQL Developer" we also get the error "ORA-00257: archiver error. Connect internal only, until freed."
Unfortunately we have no SYSDBA rights (because managed by an external provider).
My question are:
Has anyone of you had a similar problem before?
Do you think the root cause of such problems is more on application side, or more on DB side?
How can I at least get rid of the stucked threads?
Chances are that the database storage is full, or that the archiver cannot move or create new archive logs. This is almost definitely an issue at the database level and not the app server level. Since you are getting this message that means you already have a connection to the database, so it is not sitting and waiting for a connection.
Stuck Threads in WebLogic don't always need to be 'fixed' and are not always a problem. The purpose of the stuck thread mechanism is to notify you when a thread is taking an abnormally long time to do something (like access the database). The stuck thread notification is just that - a notification that something might not be right, and in this case it is serving that purpose.
If you have threads that routinely take 20 minutes to do something but want to be notified if it takes longer than 25 minutes, then have to increase the Stuck Thread Limit to 25 minutes and get the notification at that point then you must put this limit from 600 seconds to 1500 seconds (25*60).
You can edit stuck thread limit in weblogic admin base_domain > Environment > Servers > Admin Server > Configuration/Tuning.

This seems to be an issue with the database. The threads are stuck on the DB. The performance of your seems to have degraded. I would suggest to refer the case to your DBA for futher investigation. Also, try recreating your indexes on the tables being accessed.
We have faced this issue when the Oracle DB Server was on a VirtualBox, in a developer environment. Pointing out the issue was bit difficult. We noticed this when the ThreadPool did not have any more threads to handle the requests and the requests were rejected.
