Changing Dynamic Web Module version in Eclipse Maven Project - java

I'm trying to set up Dynamic Web Module 3.0 in order to support Java 6 development. I'm getting this error in my Problems tab of eclipse whenever I do Maven > Update Project.
Dynamic Web Module 3.1 requires Java 1.7 or newer.
It appears as though nothing is going wrong, but I must be missing something because I consistently receive this error.
Below is the contents of my .settings/org.eclipse.wst.common.project.facet.core.xml
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<faceted-project>
<fixed facet="jst.java"/>
<fixed facet="jst.web"/>
<installed facet="jst.java" version="1.6"/>
<installed facet="jst.web" version="3.0"/>
</faceted-project>
In eclipse, my Java Compiler is set to 1.6 properly. In the Project Facets tab, Dynamic Web Module is specified as version 3.0 correctly, and Java also appears as 1.6 under Project Facets.
In my pom.xml file, I have also set the Java version accordingly:
<plugin>
<groupId>org.apache.maven.plugins</groupId>
<artifactId>maven-compiler-plugin</artifactId>
<version>3.1</version>
<configuration>
<source>1.6</source>
<target>1.6</target>
</configuration>
</plugin>
As a side note, I should also mention that I am doing a pure-Java build with a WebApplicationInitializer and have no web.xml file.
Any help is greatly appreciated as I attempt to squash this seemingly irrelevant error message.
EDIT: added pom.xml contents

In an our project, we add to change the web.xml root element's declaration, changing from:
<!DOCTYPE web-app PUBLIC "-//Sun Microsystems, Inc.//DTD Web Application 2.3//EN" "http://java.sun.com/dtd/web-app_2_3.dtd">
to:
<web-app xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee"
xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
xsi:schemaLocation="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee/web-app_2_5.xsd"
version="2.5" >
Probably Eclipse were expecting it as satisfying a different Servlet version spec. In our case too, we had neither compile nor runtime problems.
EDIT: In your case, where you were not using a web.xml file, there was the following pom's dependency which probably was confusing Eclipse's maven plugin:
<dependency>
<groupId>javax.servlet</groupId>
<artifactId>javax.servlet-api</artifactId>
<version>3.1.0</version>
<scope>provided</scope>
</dependency>
Change it to "3.0.1". (It turns out that WebApplicationInitializer requires "Servlet 3.0+ environments" and not 3.1+)

you can add this to the pom.xml:
<build>
<plugins>
<plugin>
<groupId>org.apache.maven.plugins</groupId>
<artifactId>maven-compiler-plugin</artifactId>
<version>3.1</version>
<configuration>
<source>1.7</source>
<target>1.7</target>
</configuration>
</plugin>
</plugins>
</build>
Works in Spring STS 3.6.3 :)

Try changing your JRE/JDK version to 1.7. The web project module doesn't support 1.6.

How can I resolve it? Thank you very much!
As commented, you are using Spring 6 which relies on Jakarta EE 9. Jakarta EE 9 supports Servlet 5 specification. And Spring 6 requires Java 17+.
Your POM fails to respect these requirements.
You use Java EE rather than Jakarta EE. You should be using jakarta.* packages rather than javax.*.
You specify Servlet 4 rather than Servlet 5.
You call for Java 8 rather than Java 17 or later.

Maven adding layers.idx and other spring classes automatically to the war file

I am building a war using maven (mvn clean install), the build is successful but the problem is few spring-boot related jars are getting missed in the war file(I checked using jar tf command) and instead of that many other springboot related classes and layer.idx file is getting added. How to remove these so that they are not included in the war and all other spring related dependencies are added properly. I tried deleting the local maven repo but it didn't worked.
Here is my pom.xml -

Please help.
First you don't need to execute install because you don't need the artifact in your local repository. You should execute package.
Second you have some plugins that are not needed. (Why did you change the pom.xml that Spring Boot Initializer generated?)
Remove
<plugin>
<artifactId>maven-compiler-plugin</artifactId>
<configuration>
<release>11</release>
</configuration>
</plugin>
<plugin>
<artifactId>maven-war-plugin</artifactId>
</plugin>
Then you have dependencies that will come from the starters anyway
You can remove everything that has the comment
<!-- https://mvnrepository.com/artifact/javax.persistence/<xy> -->
It looks like you want to use JPA so add the spring-boot-starter-data-jpa dependency.

intellij tomcat "copying resources" takes too much time

I'm building a basic web app using JSF and spring using IntelliJ IDEA. So I followed this post to config the IDEA with tomcat. But when I run the app, it takes too much time to build saying coping resources.(like 1/2 an hour) And when I make a change it takes much longer time. Strangest thing is, after the build, there are ~2GB files inside the target folder. And the same classes folders are recursively copied in to it. which means target\classes\classes\artifacts\java_test_war_exploded\WEB-INF\classes\target\classes\target\classes\target\m2e-wtp\web-resources\META-INF\maven\java_test\...etc. This goes to like infinity!
What is the problem here? Please someone help!

I still couldn’t find a solution for this. So I just deleted the .idea directory from the project and reimported the project to IntelliJ. Then it worked!
I have faced this problem. At first check your project folder's size. If it is too large and it is not normal (my target folder was more than ~ 2 GB) , we have a same problem!
My mistake which caused this problem was that in intellij idea, I had refactored so many packages and changed folder's directions so many at the beginning of my project. My IDE confused and made a lot of same folders in each folder and continued it many many times! Like taking selfie in front of a mirror! what will happen to your pic? it will repeat infinitely.
my solution: create my project again as same as the previous one. but by taking care and not refactoring!
Just this!

Please note that the Postman Client works fine. What is the Maven command to run the SpringRestClient Class? The SpringSecurityOAuth2Example.war is generated from mvn package.
Thanks
Consider your pom.xml is inside SpringSecurityOAuth2Example folder so from that folder you can run below command. Please make sure your war file is deployed in tomcat and server is running as SpringRestClient will look for service at http://localhost:8080/SpringSecurityOAuth2Example. Please restart you tomcat before running this command otherwise it might throw error.
mvn -Dexec.mainClass=com.websystique.springmvc.SpringRestClient -Dexec.classpathScope=test test-compile exec:java

I can't find the dependency for com.google.api.client.util.Preconditions using Maven

I'm new with Google Calendar API. What I'm trying to do here is to post an Event to the Google Calendar with the e-mail given by the user. My problem now is, when I tried to do the configuration, I get this exception:
Caused by: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: com.google.api.client.util.Preconditions
I have tried different versions of the google api but I can't find which jar contains this class. The part on my code that's causing this exception is this :
GoogleAuthorizationCodeFlow flow = new GoogleAuthorizationCodeFlow.Builder(
httpTransport, jsonFactory, clientId, clientSecret,
Arrays.asList(CalendarScopes.CALENDAR)).setAccessType("online")
.setApprovalPrompt("auto").build();
Thanks in advance to anyone who will help.

It seems there is a conflict of versions between the modules google-api-client and google-http-client-jackson2. They must be of the same version 1.17.0-rc.
