Elements below the expandable list - not floating footer - java

Is there any option to put elements below the expandable list, let me explain: I already implemented elements below the list, but they are behaving like footer - floating at the bottom of the screen.
But if i place elements below the list in xml, elements become hidden when any group is expanded.
at the moment my layout is behaving like this
http://shrani.si/f/2s/ba/ga2VKfi/lay2.jpg
but i want to be like this at the end of the list
http://shrani.si/f/42/4m/2GAcNu6T/lay3.jpg
My layout at the moment
<LinearLayout
android:id="#+id/linearLayoutListExer"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_marginTop="10dip"
android:background="#ffffff"
android:gravity="center_vertical"
android:orientation="vertical">
<ExpandableListView
android:id="#+id/ExerciseELV"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_below="#+id/linearLayoutStatus"
android:layout_weight="1"
android:groupIndicator="#null" />
<LinearLayout
android:id="#+id/relativeFooter"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_below="#id/linearLayoutListExer"
android:background="#ffffff"
android:orientation="vertical">
<TextView
android:id="#+id/textViewBellowExercise"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:padding="10dip"
android:text="The following exercises will help you lose body weight"
android:textAppearance="?android:attr/textAppearanceSmall"
/>
<LinearLayout
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_below="#id/textViewBellowExercise">
<Button
android:id="#+id/buttonFaceit"
android:layout_width="0dp"
android:layout_height="20dp"
android:layout_margin="5dp"
android:layout_weight="1"
android:background="#color/green"
android:text="FaceIT!"
android:textColor="#color/white" />
<Button
android:id="#+id/buttonChallenge"
android:layout_width="0dp"
android:layout_height="20dp"
android:layout_margin="5dp"
android:layout_weight="1"
android:background="#color/red"
android:text="Challenge"
android:textColor="#color/white" />
</LinearLayout>
</LinearLayout>
</LinearLayout>

Your following property should change.
Instead of
android:layout_below="#id/linearLayoutListExer"
you should write
android:layout_below="#id/ExerciseELV"
for the LinearLayout with android:id="#+id/relativeFooter"
This will make the bottom layout appear below the listview

I'm new to android so i'm sorry for any "stupid" questions i may be asking.
I ended up using addfooterview method which works great.
You need to separate footer layout in its own xml and then inflate it and add it to expandable listview.
View footer=inflater.inflate(R.layout.activity_main_footer,null);
elv.addFooterView(footer);

How to make value to be fixed and highlight in center while scrolling

I have a requirement to create UI like below
You can see here the number is the highlighted part and it is in center always.
And we scroll it from left to right or vice versa.
I want to achieve this So, I wrote some code like below. But I don't have any Idea on how to add scroll effect to it and bring highlighted text to center
<LinearLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:gravity="center_horizontal"
app:layout_constraintBottom_toTopOf="#+id/idCameraControlBottom"
app:layout_constraintEnd_toEndOf="parent"
app:layout_constraintStart_toStartOf="parent">
<TextView
android:id="#+id/idZoom1"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_marginEnd="50dp"
android:text="."
android:textAlignment="textEnd"
android:textSize="20sp"
android:textStyle="bold" />
<TextView
android:id="#+id/idZoom2"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_marginEnd="50dp"
android:background="#drawable/circle_shade"
android:gravity="center"
android:text="1X"
android:textSize="16sp" />
<TextView
android:id="#+id/idZoom3"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:text="."
android:textAlignment="viewStart"
android:textSize="20sp"
android:textStyle="bold" />
</LinearLayout>
Any Idea/Help is greatly appreciated.
You can create it like so:
<RelativeLayout
android:layout_centerInParent="true"
android:layout_width="100dp"
android:layout_height="wrap_content">
<HorizontalScrollView
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content">
<LinearLayout
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:orientation="horizontal">
<Button
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:text="1"/>
<Button
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:text="1"/>
<Button
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:text="1"/>
<Button
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:text="1"/>
</LinearLayout>
</HorizontalScrollView>
<TextView
android:layout_centerInParent="true"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:background="#000"
android:textColor="#fff"
android:text="1"/>
</RelativeLayout>
Change it as you see fit, basically, the relative layout parent holds within the horizonal scrollable scrollview, within it you have your needed-to-be-scrolled views. After if you define your number view, being inside a relative layout it will simply be ordered above it. You can then center it to appear above your scrollable scrollView.
Do note the following 2 this:
The scroll will only be performed if the user touched the scrollable view. As in, if the user tries to swipe from pressing on the number it self, it will not scroll.
The content behind the number will be hidden behind it, it won't "skip" from 1 side to the other so you can have "invisible" content that way.

Button at bottom of programmatically created layout

I made a linear layout where I have a view and a button. And inside that linear layout I am also adding some more elements but programmatically. Here is the code:
<LinearLayout
android:id="#+id/container"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:orientation="vertical">
<View android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="20dp"
android:background="#color/transparentBlack1"/>
<Button
android:layout_width="70dp"
android:layout_height="40dp"
android:shadowColor="#color/noColor"
android:background="#color/transparentBlack1"
android:text="#string/NewButton"
android:textSize="30sp"
android:gravity="center"
android:textColor="#color/background2"
android:onClick="addLine"/>
</LinearLayout>
With the addLine function I just add another element in the layout.
Is there any way to keep the button at the bottom of every element inside the layout, so other elements that I create with code will be above the button?
I guess you use linearLayout.addView(view); to add your views, correct? You can specify where the view should be added like the following:
linearLayout.addView(view, linearLayout.getChildCount() - 1);
This should add it between the view and the button.
See documentation for method explanations:
addView(View, int)
getChildCount()
Try make that button outside that layout, something like this:
<LinearLayout
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:orientation="vertical">
<LinearLayout
android:id="#+id/container"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:orientation="vertical">
<View android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="20dp"
android:background="#color/transparentBlack1"/>
</LinearLayout>
<Button
android:layout_width="70dp"
android:layout_height="40dp"
android:shadowColor="#color/noColor"
android:background="#color/transparentBlack1"
android:text="#string/NewButton"
android:textSize="30sp"
android:gravity="center"
android:textColor="#color/background2"
android:onClick="addLine"/>
</LinearLayout>
Hope this helps

How to keep views from disappearing in wrap_content

I have a problem where a view of mine is disappearing in my RecyclerView when the layout of that view is wrap_content. The RecyclerView is match_parent both directions, and uses a LinearLayout that inflates the below xml file. Here is what each piece of the RecyclerView is supposed to look like:
And here is the XML for that:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_margin="10dp">
<View
android:id="#+id/scheduleBlockColor"
android:layout_width="15dp"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:layout_alignBottom="#+id/scheduleBlockText"
android:background="#color/colorCougarRed" />
<RelativeLayout
android:id="#+id/scheduleBlockText"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_toEndOf="#id/scheduleBlockColor"
android:layout_toRightOf="#id/scheduleBlockColor"
android:paddingEnd="0dp"
android:paddingLeft="5dp"
android:paddingRight="0dp"
android:paddingStart="5dp">
<TextView
android:id="#+id/scheduleBlockTime"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:padding="2dp"
android:text="#string/schedule_block_time_default"
android:textSize="16sp" />
<TextView
android:id="#+id/scheduleBlockClassName"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_below="#id/scheduleBlockTime"
android:ellipsize="end"
android:padding="2dp"
android:singleLine="true"
android:text="#string/schedule_block_class_default"
android:textColor="#000000"
android:textSize="18sp"
android:textStyle="bold" />
<TextView
android:id="#+id/scheduleBlockRoom"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_below="#id/scheduleBlockClassName"
android:padding="2dp"
android:text="#string/schedule_block_room_default"
android:textSize="16sp" />
</RelativeLayout>
</RelativeLayout>
My question is, how do I keep that colored piece from disappearing when the RecyclerView loads? If I have the parent RelativeLayout above set to match_parent, it works fine. I've tried this answer, but haven't had the same success
It is because of the height set on the <View>. It gets messed up (even with match_parent) by the fact that it doesn't have content. Since the intention is to have a vertical stripe, you could anchor it to the top and bottom of the parent. You already are doing it for the bottom part (kind of, aligning it to the bottom of the text view container), so you only need to take care of the top anchoring:
<View
android:id="#+id/scheduleBlockColor"
...
android:layout_alignParentTop="true"
... />
Instead of padding using layout_margin inside your RelativeLayout.

How to work with linear layout?

Hello I'm trying to figure how to work with LinearLayouts. I dragged one horizontal layout to my XML file, I then dragged three TextView one next to each other. When I'm trying to drag ImageView and place it below them, it always pushes the TextView aside. How can I fix this?
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent">
<LinearLayout
android:orientation="horizontal"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="397dp"></LinearLayout>
<ImageView
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:id="#+id/imageView"
android:layout_gravity="center_vertical" />
<LinearLayout
android:orientation="horizontal"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="70dp"
android:weightSum="1">
<TextView
android:layout_width="110dp"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:textAppearance="?android:attr/textAppearanceMedium"
android:text="Movie Name"
android:id="#+id/textView"
android:layout_marginLeft="30dp"
android:layout_marginTop="30dp"
/>
<TextView
android:layout_width="110dp"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:textAppearance="?android:attr/textAppearanceMedium"
android:text="Actor Name"
android:id="#+id/textView2"
android:layout_marginLeft="10dp"
android:layout_marginTop="30dp" />
<TextView
android:layout_width="100dp"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:textAppearance="?android:attr/textAppearanceMedium"
android:text="Grade"
android:id="#+id/textView3"
android:layout_marginLeft="20dp"
android:layout_marginTop="30dp" />
</LinearLayout>
</LinearLayout>
You have not mentioned orientation for the main parent LinearLayout so by default it is considering it to be horizontal and showing images and text views in same line.
The following LinearLayout is useless as it does not have any children.
You need to declare orientation of LinearLayout to be vertical to show image below your other layout.
Some pseudo code will be like,
<LinearLayout
orientation="vertical"
...>
<LinearLayout
orientation="horizontal"
...>
<TextViews ... />
</LinearLayout>
<ImageView ... />
</LinearLayout>
LinearLayout is a view group that aligns all children in a single direction, vertically or horizontally. You can specify the layout direction with the android:orientation attribute.
All children of a LinearLayout are stacked one after the other, so a vertical list will only have one child per row, no matter how wide they are, and a horizontal list will only be one row high (the height of the tallest child, plus padding). A LinearLayout respects margins between children and the gravity (right, center, or left alignment) of each child.
So My suggestion is Dont use specific width and Height, ALways use wrap_content or match_parent
For More Details see here
This is XML Code that You wants.
try the Below code. You should give the android:orientation="vertical"for the parent LinearLayout.
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:orientation="vertical">
<LinearLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="70dp"
android:orientation="horizontal"
android:weightSum="1">
<TextView
android:id="#+id/textView"
android:layout_width="110dp"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_marginLeft="30dp"
android:layout_marginTop="30dp"
android:text="Movie Name"
android:textAppearance="?android:attr/textAppearanceMedium" />
<TextView
android:id="#+id/textView2"
android:layout_width="110dp"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_marginLeft="10dp"
android:layout_marginTop="30dp"
android:text="Actor Name"
android:textAppearance="?android:attr/textAppearanceMedium" />
<TextView
android:id="#+id/textView3"
android:layout_width="100dp"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_marginLeft="20dp"
android:layout_marginTop="30dp"
android:text="Grade"
android:textAppearance="?android:attr/textAppearanceMedium" />
</LinearLayout>
<ImageView
android:id="#+id/imageView"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_gravity="center_vertical" />
</LinearLayout>
Happy Coding :)

List view - auto modify height

I'm learning Android and now I have this tutorial: http://www.informit.com/articles/article.aspx?p=1928230
I modify (I want scroll all page) this and i have:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<ScrollView
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:id="#+id/ScrollView01"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content" >
<LinearLayout
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:orientation="vertical" >
<ListView
android:id="#+id/petList"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="700dp" //here!!!!
android:divider="#000"
/>
<Button
android:id="#+id/ButtonAddNews"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:text="Add new Pet" >
</Button>
</LinearLayout>
</ScrollView>
Single item:
<LinearLayout
android:id="#+id/relative"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:padding="5dp"
orientation="horizontal">
<TextView
android:id="#+id/TextView01"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_weight="1"
android:layout_height="?android:attr/listPreferredItemHeight"
android:textColor="#f00"
android:layout_alignParentLeft="true"
android:text="two" ></TextView>
<TextView
android:id="#+id/TextView02"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_weight="1"
android:layout_height="?android:attr/listPreferredItemHeight"
android:textColor="#f00"
android:text="three"
android:layout_alignParentRight="true"></TextView>
</LinearLayout>
This working ok, but i must modify android:layout_height.
For example if i have 3 item in list then 700dp it is too more.
If I use fill_parent, match_parent or wrap_content then this show me only one item (I can scroll it).
What I have to type in the layout_height to automatically expanding, with the number of items?
First of all: REMOVE THAT SCROLLVIEW!! Never place a ListView inside a ScrollView! Google for "android listview inside scrollview" to get more information about that.
Now, usually you would implement that layout somehow like that:
<LinearLayout
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:orientation="vertical" >
<ListView
android:id="#+id/petList"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="0dp" // set layout_height=0dp
android:layout_weight="1" // add layout_weight=1
android:divider="#000"
/>
<Button
android:id="#+id/ButtonAddNews"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:text="Add new Pet" >
</Button>
</LinearLayout>
This way the list will use the whole available height, except what the button is using. If you want the button to scroll with the list, use a list footer.
