Exceptions when placing a beans.xml file into the META-INF dir - java

I am having a maven driven application, which runs beans in glassfish.
Now I want to inject my beans, and therefore I need a beans.xml in place.
But the moment I put it into my META-INF dir, I am getting errors on deploy:

Any ideas?

I did a mvn clean, now this error is gone.

If you look at spring-orm maven dependency you will see that it depends on hibernate-entitymanager which is the jar that contains the class not found.
http://mvnrepository.com/artifact/org.springframework/spring-orm/3.1.1.RELEASE
Add those dependencies to your maven configuration file.
<dependency>
<groupId>org.springframework</groupId>
<artifactId>spring-orm</artifactId>
<version>3.1.1.RELEASE</version>
</dependency>

How to find if any jar is using a deprecated class

I was migrating from Spring boot 1.3 to 1.5 and am getting a class not found error for ServletRegistrationBean.
Which is expected as this has been deprecated.
What am not able to understand is which jar is causing this?
I would like to understand how can debug it further?
Basically how to walk through jars to see which class is getting loaded at the time of failure and where it is from so I can correct my dependencies
I have used couple of tools to walk through the jars and find dependencies but that did not help me

It seems like it is lacking jaxen.jar during its compilation.Add below dependency in your POM.xml -
<dependency>
<groupId>jaxen</groupId>
<artifactId>jaxen</artifactId>
<version>1.1.6</version>
</dependency>
clean build and try again.check if this helps.

How come Glassfish does not fail to start but Tomcat does if scope is not provided?

I have a very simple Java web application with 2 jsp files ( index and test ). The deployment descriptor should give some clue:

This project was created by maven -webapp archetype and there is only one dependency in the pom:
<dependency>
<groupId>javax</groupId>
<artifactId>javaee-api</artifactId>
<version>6.0</version>
<scope>provided</scope>
</dependency>
I have 2 run configurations in IntelliJ, one for Tomcat 7.0 and one for Glassfish 3.1.2.2
When pom is as above, the app deploys to both servers fine. But when I remove:
<scope>provided</scope>
the deployment fails in Tomcat, but is still successful in Glassfish. Why is this?
This is from the Tomcat log file:

<scope>provided</scope> is used in maven to tell that this library (javaee-api) will be provided by server. When you omit , default is <scope>compile</scope> means required jars are available during compilation and packaged with WAR file in lib folder. javaee-api package contain javax.servlet, javax.servlet.http .. etc, which is also provided by Tomcat.
So when you omit scope, jars are packed in WAR file but this jars are also provided by tomcat so there is jar conflict.
Glassfish is able to resolve this issue.

What is causing an HTTP 503 error in my GWT application?

I followed this tutorial for my first project using gwt,hibernate,jpa and spring.
However, when I try to right click on the app and use Run as -> web application in Eclipse, the page return:
HTTP ERROR: 503

Problem accessing /GWTSpring.html. Reason:

This is what I got in the console:

i've already tried this solution: 503 GWT error: but it didn't work.
Any ideas as to what the problem is?
java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: org.aopalliance.aop.Advice
is pretty much self explanatory, no? you need some "AOP Alliance" JAR in the CLASSPATH. Likely packaged with Spring downloads, or referenced from its pom.xml (if using Maven).
in Project -> war -> lib -> web.xml

If you are not obliged to use AppEngine, remove it!
I have tried to use spring and Hibernate with GWT but it did not work with AppEngine.
The application server that will be used then, will be Jetty (the embedded server).
And remove all the jars related to AppEngine from your Build Path
It worked for me!
Maybe you should try to change ports in your project"s configuration.
Right Click your project --> Run as.. --> Run Configurations --> Go
to Server tab and make it select an unused port.
I had the same problem but this worked for me like a charm.
