How to udate attendee inforamtion by using ContentResolver Android? - java

I try to change status for one of attendees for specific Event.
The following example demonstrates how to update event title:
ContentResolver cr = context.getContentResolver();
ContentValues values = new ContentValues();
values.put(Events.TITLE, "Some new title");

But I need update information for specific attendee. SO I need somehow to change Where part of query.
Right now I have Events._ID + " =? that mean where eventID=123
and this line will set new type:
values.put(Attendees.ATTENDEE_STATUS, "1"); // 1 - ACCEPTED
How to write where statement to update specific attendee with email (lets say) aaa.bbb#gmail.com

Since you want to update attendee information you need to change Uri from Events.CONTENT_URI to Attendees.CONTENT_URI.
In addition instead Events._ID write Attendees.CONTENT_URI.
So the snippets of code should be something like:
values.put(Attendees.ATTENDEE_STATUS, "1");

s1.ListViewCategory is a String type ArrayList in Singleton class s1, and it has values of categories: "game","country","city","subway","actor","pet" // In Database there are total 33 categories, and I want to exclude these 6 categories that are in s1.ListViewCategory
In rawQuery, I want to exclude categories that are in s1.ListViewCategory, so I tried 2 ways of cursor refering to these 2 stackoverflow questions:

I used WHERE and NOT IN statement to exclude these 6 categories
When I tried 2nd way cursor, I got no error. However, the Sql query did not work. It had to exclude categories that are in String[params], but it did not work. So I used log to see what param is and I got this

Change the double quotes with single quotes inside the loop that constructs the comma delimited list:
for (String param : s1.ListViewCategory) {
sb.append(",").append("'").append(param).append("'");

params = sb.toString().substring(1);
This code constructs a list like:
'game', 'country', 'city', 'subway', 'actor', 'pet'
If you use it as a parameter in the rawQuery() method then this list will be treated as a string literal and not a list of values.
So do this instead:
String sql = "SELECT CATEGORY FROM " + tableName
+ " WHERE CATEGORY NOT IN (?) "
+ " ORDER BY RANDOM() LIMIT 1 ";
sql = sql.replace("?", params);
Cursor cursor = database.rawQuery(sql, null);
Note that this method is prone to sql injection.
Another way is to create a list of ? placeholders instead of 1 placeholder and pass the list of values as an array of strings like this:

Android database field in row update working only once

I want to change a single column inside a row. I'm trying to update the value inside "remindOnDate" field to "reminder" in the "tasks" table.
I tried a few things but they all work only when remindOnDate is null. Once it has a value stored in it, update won't work on it. I don't know why. What am I doing wrong? If the statement is wrong then it shouldn't work even when remindOnDate is null.
I tried this:
ContentValues editTask = new ContentValues();
editTask.put("remindOnDate", reminder);
database.update("tasks", editTask, "_id = ?", new String[]{id+""});
I also tried the following instead of the last line:
database.update("tasks", editTask, "_id = " + id, null);
Here is another thing I tried:
String createQuery = "UPDATE tasks SET remindOnDate = '" + reminder + "' WHERE _id = " + id + ";";
database.execSQL(createQuery);

Android / Java: How to get last row value in sqlite?

Hello I am using a sqlite database in my android application, and I have question:
I am trying to get the last value text(thats the collumn) from the last row from the table TABLE_XYZ... but it does not work.. i am using the following code...what am I doing wrong?
another question is, how can I return two values instead of only one, when I want to get several values from the last row like column text and message?

you are closing cursor before getting it's value

Closes the Cursor, releasing all of its resources and making it completely invalid.
You are closing the cursor before returningthe string.
Like #whatever5599451 said you should not close the cursor before you get value. Also try a query like this:
String selectQuery = "SELECT column FROM " + TABLE_XYZ +
" ORDER BY column DESC LIMIT 1";
You can specify the columns also specify to return only 1 row.
This will bring back only the column you are ordering by you can also specify more columns example:
String selectQuery = "SELECT column, column2, column3 FROM " + TABLE_XYZ +
" ORDER BY column DESC LIMIT 1";
* means select all columns
to get the last column, use the name of the column instead of " * " (* means all, all the fields)
#Steve: do this:
String selectQuery= "SELECT " + KEY_TEXT + " FROM " + TABLE_XYZ + " ORDER BY " + KEY_TEXT+ " DESC LIMIT 1";
then you get just one String with the last record containing just the right column

Sqlite insert and update values of other columns

I have two tables; a 'parent' and a 'child' table. (not SQLite defitinions, just something i call them)
Everytime a child-object is created, it is assigned the value 0 in one of its columns.
When a new parent-object is created, every unassigned child-object, has to update the value mentioned before, to the parent-object's ID. My code looks like this:

But for some reason this doesn't work. The ID the childs/exercises remains 0. Can you help me?
I don't know if the error is somewhere in the setup of my tables, in that case i could provide some more information.

EDIT: This is used in android, and I have debugged and verified that the workout_pk_id is returned, 45 objects are found in the selectQuery and yet it doesn't work. I also tried ContentValues to update the values, didn't work.
Edited the " == " to " = ", but the value is still not updated.
This is from eclipse - I've created a workout called "test", with the ID 160.
The exercise "test1" has the ID 430 (unique) but the workout_id is still 0.
It's been awhile since I did any Android stuff but I believe the "==" operator is incorrect:
String k = "UPDATE " + TABLE_EXERCISE + " SET " + KEY_WORKOUT_ID + " == " + workout_pk_id;
The operator you're using is a comparative operator, "=" is the assignment operator.
I also believe there is a better way to do what you are trying to do, currently refreshing my memory on Android so I'll get back to you. In the meantime tell me if replacing the operator works
Yeah so another way you can do this is by using subqueries. So it would look something like:
UPDATE TABLE_EXCERCISE SET KEY_WORKOUT_ID = WORKOUT_PK_ID WHERE KEY_WORKOUT_ID =
(
*subquery here to select parent object ids*
)

I think you have to look to your update query.
It has to be:
String k = "UPDATE " + TABLE_EXERCISE + " SET " + KEY_WORKOUT_ID + " = " + workout_pk_id;
Look at the "=" between KEY_WORKOUT_ID and workout_pk_id.

Getting Contacts based on the GroupID in Android

I'm having kind of a problem here, since I just startet developing for Android. I downloaded the sample from the official Android website "http://developer.android.com/training/contacts-provider/retrieve-names.html", which is basically capable of retrieving an showing all the contacts from the phone. The feature I wanted to add is to just show contacts from a certain group like "Friends" (hardcoded).
As far as I narrowed it down I have to change the selection part

There two ways for getting list of contacts of a group. First, I suppose you have GroupId and want to get related list of contacts.

Notice, in second fetch in this method we check accountName and accountType to be sure this record is related this group, because may be there are some records that stored for another Apps like WhatsApp. and we don't like get those. ok?
