I'm trying to implement a swipe tab views like this http://www.androidhive.info/2013/10/android-tab-layout-with-swipeable-views-1/.
But when I try to implement getItems method in the Adapter, it doesn't accept my custom Fragment.
Here's the code:
MyActivity.java

private String[] Drawer_menu_item;
#Override

actionbar.setHomeButtonEnabled(true);
// Adding Tabs

Please import this import android.support.v4.app.Fragment; in place of import android.app.Fragment; in Name_fragment this may solve your issue!
I am trying to develop swipe tabs in my android app. I googled it and tried to implement it by myself. Here is what I did:
MainActivity.java:
package com.example.shiza.swipetabs;
import android.app.ActionBar;
import android.app.FragmentTransaction;
import android.support.v4.app.FragmentActivity;
import android.support.v4.app.FragmentPagerAdapter;
import android.support.v4.view.ViewPager;
import android.support.v7.app.ActionBarActivity;
import android.os.Bundle;
import android.view.Window;
public class MainActivity extends FragmentActivity implements ActionBar.TabListener{
ActionBar bar;
ViewPager viewPager;
FragmentPageAdapter ft;
#Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
getWindow().requestFeature(Window.FEATURE_ACTION_BAR);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);
// viewPager = new ViewPager(this);
viewPager.setId(R.id.pager);
setContentView(viewPager);
ft = new FragmentPageAdapter(getSupportFragmentManager());
viewPager.setAdapter(ft);
bar = getActionBar();
try {
bar.setHomeButtonEnabled(false);
} catch (Exception e) {
e.printStackTrace();
}
bar.setNavigationMode(ActionBar.NAVIGATION_MODE_TABS);
bar.setDisplayOptions(0, ActionBar.DISPLAY_SHOW_TITLE);
bar.addTab(bar.newTab().setText("A").setTabListener(this));
bar.addTab(bar.newTab().setText("B").setTabListener(this));
bar.addTab(bar.newTab().setText("C").setTabListener(this));
viewPager.setOnPageChangeListener(new ViewPager.OnPageChangeListener() {
#Override
public void onPageScrolled(int position, float positionOffset, int positionOffsetPixels) {
}
#Override
public void onPageSelected(int position) {
bar.setSelectedNavigationItem(position);
}
#Override
public void onPageScrollStateChanged(int state) {
}
});
}
#Override
public void onTabSelected(ActionBar.Tab tab, FragmentTransaction ft) {
viewPager.setCurrentItem(tab.getPosition());
}
#Override
public void onTabUnselected(ActionBar.Tab tab, FragmentTransaction ft) {
}
#Override
public void onTabReselected(ActionBar.Tab tab, FragmentTransaction ft) {
}
}
FragmentPageAdapter.java:
package com.example.shiza.swipetabs;
//import android.app.FragmentManager;
import android.support.v4.app.Fragment;
import android.support.v4.app.FragmentManager;
import android.support.v4.app.FragmentPagerAdapter;
/**
* Created by Shiza on 11-06-2015.
*/
public class FragmentPageAdapter extends FragmentPagerAdapter{
public FragmentPageAdapter(FragmentManager fm)
{
super(fm);
}
#Override
public Fragment getItem(int position) {
switch (position)
{
case 1:
return new Fragment_a();
case 2:
return new Fragment_b();
case 3:
return new Fragment_c();
}
return null;
}
#Override
public int getCount() {
return 3;
}
}
Everything is fine, but when I am getting following warning:
Method invocation 'bar.setHomeButtonEnabled(false)' may produce 'java.lang.NullPointerException
At runtime, I got NullPointerException at the same line.
I searched it on StackOverflow and come to know that I need to use v7.support library. I am unable to implement that. It looks like...
bar = getActionBar();
...returns null. Apart from this I am getting a lot of deprecated methods. Please suggest me a better tutorial. I am taking help of this. I have tried all solutions on SO, but none of them work. Please help me to solve this.
If your MainActivity extend ActionBarActivity, your getActionBar(); will be available.
I think your example is a little old. You can try this example with Android Studio
I'm trying to make action bar tabs, but I got a error:"pager Cannot resolved as a variable..."
Thansk for your help.

I tried to "Create "pager" in type id " but it did not solved my issue. Please help me.
You need to declare a ViewPager widget on your activity_main layout.
Never edit the R class - it is automatically generated.
I have an Android app which uses tabs and fragments for navigation. The app works fine when launched, but after I change the orientation the menu items and the widgets in the fragments stop working. The app works if I put
android:configChanges="orientation|screenSize"
in the manifest, but in the Android documentation it says that this should be a last resort, so I'm wondering if there is a better solution. Here's the code for the host activity and one of the fragments.
package com.mynews;

//setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);
//stopService(new Intent(this, FindArticlesService.class));
ActionBar actionBar = getActionBar();
actionBar.setNavigationMode(ActionBar.NAVIGATION_MODE_TABS);
Tab tab = actionBar.newTab()
.setText("Articles")
.setTabListener(new TabListener<Articles>(this, "articles", Articles.class));
actionBar.addTab(tab);
tab = actionBar.newTab()
.setText("Websites")
.setTabListener(new TabListener<UserSites>(this, "websites", UserSites.class));
actionBar.addTab(tab);
tab = actionBar.newTab()
.setText("Add a website")
.setTabListener(new TabListener<AddSites>(this, "add a site", AddSites.class));
actionBar.addTab(tab);

Refer to my answer here regarding the use of Menus and their host Fragments.
I followed some tutorial to make a Tablayout in android,
but I have a problem.
FirstActivity.java :
package info.mandai.animegallery;
import com.example.animegallery.R;
import info.mandai.animegallery.adapter.TabsPagerAdapter;
import android.app.ActionBar;
import android.app.ActionBar.Tab;
import android.app.FragmentTransaction;
import android.os.Bundle;
import android.support.v4.app.FragmentActivity;
import android.support.v4.view.PagerAdapter;
import android.support.v4.view.ViewPager;
public class FirstActivity extends FragmentActivity implements -----> Error Here
ActionBar.TabListener {
private ViewPager viewPager;
private TabsPagerAdapter mAdapter;
private ActionBar actionBar;
private String[] tabs = { "Registrasi", "Login", "A" };
#Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_first);
viewPager = (ViewPager) findViewById(R.id.pager);
actionBar = getActionBar();
mAdapter = new TabsPagerAdapter(getSupportFragmentManager());
viewPager.setAdapter(mAdapter);
actionBar.setHomeButtonEnabled(false);
actionBar.setNavigationMode(ActionBar.NAVIGATION_MODE_TABS);
for (String tab_name : tabs) {
actionBar.addTab(actionBar.newTab().setText(tab_name)
.setTabListener(this));
}
}
}
On the word "FirstActivity" I have this error:
they said "The type FirstActivity must implement the inherited abstract method ActionBar.TabListener.onTabSelected(ActionBar$Tab, FragmentTransaction)
What do I do to fix it?
add following code to your class
#Override
public void onTabSelected(Tab tab, FragmentTransaction ft) {
// do something
}
