In my RMI program I want to set up my RMI registry on the port 8080, but when I do it, I get an exception.

You are creating a registry on port 8080 but then attempting to rebind your object in the default registry on port 1099. You need to either:
pass a full URL to Naming.rebind including the port number, i.e. //localhost:8080/MathServer or
save a reference to the Registry object returned by LocateRegistry.createRegistry and bind the object using that registry's instance methods rather than the static methods of Naming
Similarly, you will need to use the full //localhost:8080/MathServer URL form in your clients when they lookup the object, to make sure they're talking to the right registry.
Naming.rebind("MathServer", mathServer);
Change that to
Naming.rebind("//localhost:8080/MathServer", mathServer);
If you are linux Ubuntu user then while starting RMI registry use command
rmiregistry 8080 &
For Windows
start rmiregistry 8080

This behaves also odd: mongoRunning is set to true and an exception is thrown asynchronously.
I need a way to check the connection once. Is this possible without any exception and in a synchronous way?
MongoClient represents a connection pool. It manages the connections, and everything happening in its threads.
I think it is wrong to ask question "if MongoDB is running". Suppose you have a tool or instrument to check if it is running, and you receive no exception at the time of checking, but right after you checked MongoDB is crashed, what would you do. I.e. it is wrong to attempt such check, instead one should focus to write application in reliable way with proper error handling at the time of queries.
Additionally, you may look at ConnectionPoolSettings which has getMaxWaitQueueSize, by default its 500 queries before it starts throwing exceptions. If that is what causes problems to you, you may try to reduce this to lesser value, to start receiving exceptions earlier.

This could happen for a variety of reasons, and I'm quoting from this answer
If you get a SQLException: Connection refused or Connection timed out
or a MySQL specific CommunicationsException: Communications link
failure, then it means that the DB isn't reachable at all.
This can have one or more of the following causes:
IP address or hostname in JDBC URL is wrong.
Hostname in JDBC URL is not recognized by local DNS server.
Port number is missing or wrong in JDBC URL. [Assuming the one you mentioned is correct]
DB server is down.
DB server doesn't accept TCP/IP connections.
DB server has run out of connections.
Something in between Java and DB is blocking connections, e.g. a firewall or proxy.
To solve the one or the other, follow the following advice:
Verify and test them with ping.
Refresh DNS or use IP address in JDBC URL instead.
Verify it based on my.cnf of MySQL DB.
Start the DB.
Verify if mysqld is started without the --skip-networking option.
Restart the DB and fix your code accordingly that it closes connections in finally.
Disable firewall and/or configure
firewall/proxy to allow/forward the port.

The solution is actually quite simple as well as a bit off topic. Thanks Ian for pointing it out. I had to add port number of db2 to the inbound and outbound rules of firewall.
If anyone is having the same problem, you can follow these steps:
Go to Windows Firewall in control panel.
Click on Advanced Settings.
Select Inbound Rules and then click on New Rule.
Select Port option and then type the port number you want to add.
Repeat the above steps for outbound rules.

I'm using cassandra-driver-core 2.1.5 and cassandra-all 2.1.3.
The server is pingable using the given IP from the datanodes and telnet 10.27.124.73 9160 and telnet 10.27.124.73 9042 works.
EDIT:
I tried setting 9042 port in the code using,

Try calling createRegistry() first to make sure that you have a running registry. Also, port 0 should be a reserved port so you won't be able to make your server listen on that particular port. Try the default one 1099.
There is no problem in running rmiregistry. If you look into the stacktrace closely,the problem seems to be ClassNotFoundException while the arguments are being unmarshalled in the rmi registry. You will have to check the code base of the RMI server whether server.I_Server class is present in the Server.jar while running it in the classpath.

Most likely the java.rmi.server.codebase property has not been set (or has not been set correctly) on a VM that is exporting your remote object(s). Please take a look at our tutorial, Dynamic code downloading using Java RMI (Using the java.rmi.server.codebase Property).
The issue was in the build file. I needed to insert this statement.
