I have a service that reads a csv file and answers queries from that data using lucene. The service-module works perfectly stand alone and in the unit-tests. The service uses spring to create all lucene classes (directory, analyzer ...see below the ServiceConfig).
That services is used by a spring-rest web-application. When deploying the first time in tomcat or weblogic it works fine. BUT when I try to redeploy it, it cannot load the spring-context again with the following error:
2014-11-14 13:59:57,261 MyService#1.0-SNAPSHOT 750 ERROR org.springframework.web.context.ContextLoader - Context initialization failedorg.springframework.beans.factory.BeanCreationException: Error creating bean with name 'csvReader' defined in class de.camminati.config.ServiceConfig: Invocation of init method failed; nested exception is java.lang.LinkageError: loader constraint violation: when resolving method "java.lang.invoke.MethodHandle.invokeExact()Lorg/apache/lucene/util/AttributeImpl;" the class loader (instance of org/apache/catalina/loader/WebappClassLoader) of the current class, org/apache/lucene/util/AttributeFactory$1, and the class loader (instance of <bootloader>) for resolved class, java/lang/invoke/MethodHandle, have different Class objects for the type ; used in the signature

So basically, it cannot reload because the objects are not being destroyed completely, because lucene does something fishy with the class loader (some Thread-operations I guess) and cannot be accessed again from the class loader that spring is using.
Here is my ServiceConfig.class:
#Configuration
#Slf4j
public class ServiceConfig {
#Bean

return new CSVReader();
}
#Bean
#DependsOn("csvReader")
public IndexSearcher indexSearcher(Directory directory) throws IOException {

}
}
And the CSVReader.java:
public class CSVReader implements InitializingBean, DisposableBean {
#Autowired

#Autowired
IndexWriter indexWriter;
private ApplicationContext appContext;
public void readData() throws IOException {
CSVParser csvParser = new CSVParser(new InputStreamReader(csvInputStream), CSVFormat.EXCEL.withDelimiter(';').withIgnoreEmptyLines(true));
for (CSVRecord record : csvParser.getRecords()) {
Document doc = new Document();
doc.add(...);
indexWriter.addDocument(doc);
}
indexWriter.close();
}
#Override
public void afterPropertiesSet() throws IOException {
readData();
}
#Override
public void destroy() throws Exception {
log.info("Closing from destroy().....");
csvInputStream.close();
log.info("Closing from destroy().....done!");
}
}
And the Service.class:
#Service
#Slf4j
public class Service {
#Autowired(required = true)
#Qualifier(("directory"))
Directory directory;
#Autowired
Analyzer analyzer;
#Autowired
IndexSearcher indexSearcher;
private final int MAX_HITS = 45000;
#Override

}
public boolean existsInIndex(String input, String index) throws ParseException, IOException {
QueryParser parser = new QueryParser(Version.LUCENE_4_10_2, index, analyzer);
Query query = parser.parse("\"" + parser.escape(input) + "\"");
ScoreDoc[] hits = indexSearcher.search(query, null, MAX_HITS).scoreDocs;
return (hits.length > 0) ? true : false;
}
}
Any ideas why it would run only exactly once? And any ideas how to fix it?

This may be a typo or some major configuration error, I am not getting it.
Any Insight will be helpful.
EDIT 1: If you need any other information, Please let me know.
EDIT 2 I am open to all kind of suggestions even If it is to change entire configuration for hibernate/jpa module. But only Java/annotation based configuration
EDIT 3 I Solved it by migrating server from tomcat to wildfly and configured JNDI data source and now it is working fine.

I'll explain the situation.
I have an application web, java + spring + hibernate. Actually, i want to integrate DWR with Spring, so I did all the configuration and I think what I did works fine since I get this windows:
Now, we can focus on the findUsername(String username) methodo inside the dwr code:
#Autowired
UserBo userBo;
public boolean findUsername(String username) {
System.out.println("I'm in the DWR");
try {
User user = userBo.findByUsername(username);
if(user != null) {
return true;
}
else {
return false;
}
}
catch (Exception e) {
System.out.println(e.toString());
return false;
}
}
And this is the code of userBo.findByUsername(String username) methodo:
public User findByUsername(String username) {
System.out.println("I'm in the BO");
return userDao.findByUsername(username);
}
And the DAO Code:
#Transactional
public User findByUsername(String username) {
session = sessionFactory.openSession();
System.out.println("I'm in the DAO");
String hql = "FROM User Tab WHERE Tab.username= :username";
Query query = session.createQuery(hql);
query.setParameter("username", username);
#SuppressWarnings("unchecked")
List<User> userFound = (List<User>) query.list();
if (userFound.size() > 0) {
session.close();
return userFound.get(0);
}
return null;
}
But when the code reach userBo.findByUsername(username); method call i get the NullPointerException.
I'm pretty sure the bo + day working good because I've used it in some other part of the application.
I don't understand the problem.
Can someone help me?

If spring context is fully initialized spring guarantees that all #autowired fields are not-null beans.
However if you call some bean's method before spring context is fully initialized, the #autowired field can be null.
Check if you call findUsername(String username) before context is ready and if yes - this may be the reason...
If you want to do some call and be sure that context is ready try such pattern:
#Component
public class SpringContextMonitor implements ApplicationListener<ApplicationEvent> {
#Autowired
private SomeDao dao;
...
#Override
public void onApplicationEvent(ApplicationEvent event) {
if (event instanceof ContextRefreshedEvent) {
onStart((ContextRefreshedEvent) event);
}
}
private void onStart(ContextRefreshedEvent event) {
// do your initialization here
dao.getSomething();
dao2.getSomething();
...
}
...
}
In that code, method onStart is call just after context become ready.
Found the problem: I misses this line in the dwr-servlet.xml
<context:component-scan base-package="lcc.*" />
I have a #Repository as follows:
#Repository
public class OrderRepository {
#Autowired
SessionFactory sessionFactory;
public void update(Order order) {
sessionFactory.getCurrentSession().update(order);
}
}
Which is called by a #Service as follows:
#Transactional
#Service
public class OrderService {
#Autowired
OrderRepository orderRepository;
public void updateOrder(Order order) {
orderRepository.update(order);
}
}
There are some instances where the order being updated has been removed from the database (this is expected and is benign). When this occurs an exception is thrown:

I am trying to catch the HibernateOptimisticLockingFailureException within the repository:
#Repository
public class OrderRepository {
#Autowired
SessionFactory sessionFactory;
public void update(Order order) {
try {
sessionFactory.getCurrentSession().update(order);
} catch (HibernateOptimisticLockingFailureException e) {
System.out.println("Exception occurred");
}
}
}
Sadly it does not work and the user still sees the exception. I have also tried catching HibernateException and StaleStateException and neither of these work either.
I tried adding the same try/catch to the Service instead of the Repository, but this does not work. I would appreciate any pointers.
The actual update query is executed at flush time. Not when you're calling update() on the session. In this particular case, the flush happens just before the transaction wrapping the call to the service method is committed. BTW, that can be seen in the stack trace:
at org.springframework.transaction.interceptor.TransactionAspectSupport.commitTransactionAfterReturning(TransactionAspectSupport.java:478)
So, if you want to catch the exception, you should catch it outside of the service:
try {
orderService.updateOrder(order);
}
catch (ConcurrencyFailureException e) {
...
}
Even if you explicitely flush() from inside the service or DAO method, catching the exception there is a bad idea, since it will leave the Hibernate session in an unreliable state. The transaction should be rollbacked and the session should be closed immediately. That's what happens automatically if you let the exception bubble, so you'd better catch it in the code which calls the service.
I started recently a project with the Spring framework with the ojective to develop it without none XML config file, only Java code.
In this current moment, I add the follow files to my project:
WebAppConfig.java
#EnableWebMvc
#ComponentScan(value="org.webapp")
#Configuration
public class WebAppConfig extends WebMvcConfigurerAdapter {
#Override
public void addResourceHandlers(ResourceHandlerRegistry registry) {
registry.addResourceHandler("/css/**").addResourceLocations("/css/").setCachePeriod(31556926);
registry.addResourceHandler("/css/**").addResourceLocations("/fonts/").setCachePeriod(31556926);
registry.addResourceHandler("/img/**").addResourceLocations("/image/").setCachePeriod(31556926);
registry.addResourceHandler("/js/**").addResourceLocations("/js/").setCachePeriod(31556926);
}
#Override
public void configureDefaultServletHandling(DefaultServletHandlerConfigurer configurer) {
configurer.enable();
}
#Bean
public InternalResourceViewResolver getInternalResourceViewResolver() {
InternalResourceViewResolver resolver = new InternalResourceViewResolver();
resolver.setPrefix("/WEB-INF/jsp/");
resolver.setSuffix(".jsp");
return resolver;
}
}
SecurityConfig.java
#Configuration
#EnableWebSecurity
public class SecurityConfig extends WebSecurityConfigurerAdapter {
#Autowired
public void configureGlobal(AuthenticationManagerBuilder auth) throws Exception {
auth
.inMemoryAuthentication()
.withUser("kleber").password("123").roles("USER");
}
}
SecurityWebApplicationInitializer.java
#Order(value=2)
public class SecurityWebApplicationInitializer extends AbstractSecurityWebApplicationInitializer {
public SecurityWebApplicationInitializer() {
super(SecurityConfig.class);
}
}
In this state, when I run the application (in Eclipse) the browser shows the default login form from Spring Security, and an error 404 after I submit this form. If I try enter directly the url localhost:8080/spring/index, I can access the page which should appears afeter the login form.
If I add this class:
WebAppInitializer.java
#Order(value=1)
public class WebAppInitializer implements WebApplicationInitializer {
#Override
public void onStartup(ServletContext container) {
// Create the 'root' Spring application context
AnnotationConfigWebApplicationContext rootContext = new AnnotationConfigWebApplicationContext();
rootContext.register(WebAppConfig.class);
// Manage the lifecycle of the root application context
container.addListener(new ContextLoaderListener(rootContext));
// Create the dispatcher servlet's Spring application context
AnnotationConfigWebApplicationContext dispatcherContext = new AnnotationConfigWebApplicationContext();
dispatcherContext.register(DispatcherConfig.class);
// Register and map the dispatcher servlet
ServletRegistration.Dynamic dispatcher = container.addServlet("dispatcher", new DispatcherServlet(dispatcherContext));
dispatcher.setLoadOnStartup(1);
dispatcher.addMapping("/");
}
}
In replacement to web.xml, following the instructions from official documentation, in this link:
http://docs.spring.io/spring/docs/3.1.x/javadoc-api/org/springframework/web/WebApplicationInitializer.html
I can't even access the login page. Same thing happens if I add to the class SecurityConfig the method:
protected void configure(HttpSecurity http) throws Exception {
http
.authorizeRequests()
.antMatchers("/css/**", "/fonts/**", "/image/**", "/js/**").permitAll()
.anyRequest().authenticated()
.and()
.formLogin()
.loginPage("spring/index").permitAll()
.failureUrl("spring/erro_login").permitAll()
.defaultSuccessUrl("spring/home")
.and()
.logout()
.logoutSuccessUrl("spring/logout")
.permitAll();
}
Someone can see what am I missing?
ps.:
My controler is this:
#Controller
#RequestMapping(value="spring")
public class SpringController {
#RequestMapping(value="index")
public ModelAndView index() {
ModelAndView mav = new ModelAndView();
mav.setViewName("index");
return mav;
}
#RequestMapping(value="home")
public ModelAndView home() {
ModelAndView mav = new ModelAndView();
mav.setViewName("home");
return mav;
}
#RequestMapping(value="erro_login")
public ModelAndView erro_login() {
ModelAndView mav = new ModelAndView();
mav.setViewName("erro_login");
return mav;
}
#RequestMapping(value="erro_nao_autorizado")
public ModelAndView erro_nao_autorizado() {
ModelAndView mav = new ModelAndView();
mav.setViewName("erro_nao_autorizado");
return mav;
}
#RequestMapping(value="logout")
public ModelAndView logout() {
ModelAndView mav = new ModelAndView();
mav.setViewName("index");
return mav;
}
}

After the answer given to this topic, I try remove one of two conflicting registration of ContextListeners, from SecurityWebApplicationInitializer or WebAppInitializer. In both cases, I get this error:

java.lang.IllegalStateException: Cannot initialize context because there is already a root application context present - check whether you have multiple ContextLoader* definitions in your web.xml!
In your WebAppInitializer, you are registering a ContextLoaderListener.
Because you are using AbstractSecurityWebApplicationInitializer with the super constructor that accepts a Class[]
Creates a new instance that will instantiate the ContextLoaderListener with the specified classes.
that also registers a ContextLoaderListener. Note the class javadoc
When used with AbstractSecurityWebApplicationInitializer(Class...), it
will also register a ContextLoaderListener. When used with
AbstractSecurityWebApplicationInitializer(), this class is typically
used in addition to a subclass of AbstractContextLoaderInitializer.
As the error states, you cannot have two ContextLoaderListener instances because they will both try to create and add a ApplicationContext to the ServletContext.
I think the problem is that this:
.loginPage("spring/index").permitAll()
should be this:
.loginPage("/spring/index").permitAll() //note the '/' at the beginning of the uri
Maybe there're some conflicting overlapping between your web.xml and java-based configuration class. That's the root cause when I met the same error as you. And my solution is to comment out the duplicated configuration in web.xml.
I had a class
MyContextLoaderListener extends ContextLoaderListener
somewhere in my code. It was unused. Spring boot apparently used reflection to find it. I deleted the file and the problem was gone
