I am writing a remote java client for sqoop(1.4.5) import from mysql to HDFS(hadoop-1.2.1).
This is my code:
Configuration config = new Configuration();
config.set("fs.default.name","hdfs://x.y.z.w:8020");
config.set("mapred.job.tracker", "x.y.z.w:9101");
SqoopOptions options = new SqoopOptions(config);
options.setConnectString("jdbc:mysql://x.y.z.w:3306/testdb");
options.setUsername("user");
options.setPassword("password");
options.setTableName("test");
options.setTargetDir("/testOut");
options.setNumMappers(1);
int ret = new ImportTool().run(options);`
I am getting the following error:
ERROR security.UserGroupInformation: PriviledgedActionException as:xxx cause:java.net.UnknownHostException: unknown host: xxxx
ERROR tool.ImportTool: Encountered IOException running import job: java.net.UnknownHostException: unknown host: xxxx

Can anybody help with this?
Issue can be with hostname not being resolved properly, check your hostname.
Also check if you have given privilages to the specific hostname and user you are using in sqoop to import from Database.

I'm trying to test a connection to Remedy using the Java API, i.e. arapi7604_build002.jar.
According to the documentation, 4100 is a common AR System server port: https://docs.bmc.com/docs/display/public/itsm81/Port+information, but this isn't working for me:
private ARServerUser server;
private RemedyJavaAPITest() {
server = new ARServerUser();
server.setServer("fqd.com");
server.setUser("userName");
server.setPassword("pass123");
server.setPort(???);
}
public static void main(String[] args) {
RemedyJavaAPITest test = new RemedyJavaAPITest();
test.connect();
test.cleanup();
}

Usually the port in which AR Server is listening for incoming connections can be configured. Please get it confirmed with your Remedy Administrators/Developers Below are some of the points you should take care while doing this.
Make sure that the machine where AR server is installed is reachable from the machine where you are running your java program.
setServer() required hostname(anything) which will connect to your target machine(hostname should be a resolvable one)
If you are able to connect to host machine and port number is wrong, you would getting an error message which says 'Connection Refused'. But you are getting 'timed out', which usually means your connection request is not received any reply from the network. So confirm your host name.
3700 is also commonly used for AR Servers.
I have a single node cassandra cluster which is NOT colocated with my hadoop cluster. I'm using this hadoop cluster to bulk load data into a Cassandra cluster using CqlOutputFormat with following job configuration.

ConfigHelper.setOutputInitialAddress(jobConf, "10.27.124.73");
ConfigHelper.setInputInitialAddress(jobConf, "10.27.124.73");

The server is pingable using the given IP from the datanodes and telnet 10.27.124.73 9160 and telnet 10.27.124.73 9042 works.
EDIT:
I tried setting 9042 port in the code using,

I am trying to create spark stream from flume push based approach .I am running spark on my Yarn cluster.while starting the stream it is unable to bind the requested address.
I am using scala-shell to execute the program ,below is the code I am using

import org.apache.spark.streaming.StreamingContext._
import org.apache.spark.streaming.Seconds
import org.apache.spark.streaming.flume._
var ssc = new StreamingContext(sc,Seconds(60))

stream.print()
stream.count().map(cnt => "Received " + cnt + " flume events." ).print()
ssc.start()
ssc.awaitTermination()
Flume Agent is unable to write to this port since this code is unable to bind 5858 port.

This example (org.apache.spark.examples.streaming.FlumeEventCount) is worked:
// Create the context and set the batch size
val sparkConf = new SparkConf().setAppName("FlumeEventCount")
val ssc = new StreamingContext(sparkConf, batchInterval)
// Create a flume stream
val stream = FlumeUtils.createStream(ssc, host, port, StorageLevel.MEMORY_ONLY_SER_2)
// Print out the count of events received from this server in each batch
stream.count().map(cnt => "Received " + cnt + " flume events." ).print()
some hints:
use val instead of var
use exact ip instead of hostname or modify /etc/hosts in related nodes
I can't seem to get this working. I'm just look at it for basic instruction for a lab, but I've no experience with RMI at all. I can't seem to get why I'm getting the error.

Try calling createRegistry() first to make sure that you have a running registry. Also, port 0 should be a reserved port so you won't be able to make your server listen on that particular port. Try the default one 1099.
There is no problem in running rmiregistry. If you look into the stacktrace closely,the problem seems to be ClassNotFoundException while the arguments are being unmarshalled in the rmi registry. You will have to check the code base of the RMI server whether server.I_Server class is present in the Server.jar while running it in the classpath.
From RMI FAQs
A.4 Why am I getting a ClassNotFoundException?
Most likely the java.rmi.server.codebase property has not been set (or has not been set correctly) on a VM that is exporting your remote object(s). Please take a look at our tutorial, Dynamic code downloading using Java RMI (Using the java.rmi.server.codebase Property).
The issue was in the build file. I needed to insert this statement.
<target name="startRMI" depends="init">
<exec executable="C:\Program\Files\Java\jdk1.7.0_51\jre\bin\rmiregistry"
dir="${build.classes.dir}"></exec>
</target>
Hi dear community of java addicts.
I was getting these exceptions in a CentOs VM, probably running with low RAM and then I noted that the time was not correctly synchronized between the other VM needed to communicate with my nice component....
I was wondering to know, When ? Why ? How ? A SocketException: end of file is produced in a LINUX server...

I can't answer for what exceptions JBoss throws, but in general EOS on a socket is caused by exactly one thing: receiving a FIN from the peer as the result of a close or shutdown output by the peer.
