I am working with a project with accesses a JNDI datasource in tomcat 7. Here is my META-INF/context.xml files:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<Context>
<Resource name="jdbc/ambes" auth="Container" type="javax.sql.DataSource"
maxActive="50" maxIdle="30" maxWait="10000"
username="root" password=""
driverClassName="com.mysql.jdbc.Driver"
url="jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/ANTTestDb"/>
</Context>
This is my dao class, the dataSource is successfully injected to my class via context lookup service as you see below:
public class CoffeeDataBase {
private DataSource dataSource;
public CoffeeDataBase() {
try {
Context ctx = new InitialContext();
dataSource = (DataSource) ctx.lookup("java:comp/env/jdbc/ambes");
} catch (Exception e) {
e.printStackTrace();
}
// other methods definition
}
but when i replace the lookup service with #Resourse anotaion like this:
#Resource(lookup="java:comp/env/jdbc/ambes")
public class CoffeeDataBase {
private DataSource dataSource;
public CoffeeDataBase() {
}
// other methods definition
}
i am getting this NullPointerExeption like this:

I have also tried #Resource(name="jdbc/ambes") but same exception!
Tomcat does not support #Resource injection. So you can only use context lookup service in you are working in Tomcat. You can also use dependency injection framework spring to inject the dataSource which enables you to use #Resource anotation.

Once I click my login button the error occurs. Similar questions on stackoverflow seem to indicate a dependency problem but all dependencies seem to be in place.
I got the same error when I included org.springframework.core-3.1.0.M2.jar in my project. I looked inside the jar and opened org.springframework.jdbc.core.StatementCreatorUtils class.I found that it is using a class SpringProperties which is not part of above jar.
I replaced above JAR with spring-core-4.2.0.RELEASE.jar and it started working.
I didn't do anythin apart from adding this jar file to my lib directory for my project spring-core-4.0.6.RELEASE.jar, alternatively we can add this to our build path. I hope this helps.
In a spring mvc application using hibernate, I am getting the following error message:
root cause
org.hibernate.LazyInitializationException:

The error is being thrown when I try to access an arraylist that is a property of each object in another arraylist. Specifically, I have an arraylist of Encounter objects called encountersforday, and each of the Encounter objects has a property providers which is an arraylist of Provider objects. The error is thrown when I try to call the providers arraylist from the jsp using spring expression language as follows:
<spring:eval expression="encountersforday.get(2).getProviders()" var="myps" />
<c:forEach var="id" items="${myps}" varStatus="k">//this is the line throwing error
<spring:eval expression="id==3" var="match_id"></spring:eval>

<c:when test="${match_id==true}">true</c:when>
<c:otherwise>false</c:otherwise>
</c:choose>
</c:forEach>

Somehow (it is not visible in the code you posted and doesn't terribly matter) your clientService is using a Session object to get the list of Encounter objects. That Session object has a close method which is called when the Session is finished. Once that close method is called, you cannot access lazily initialized properties unless they have already been initialized.
This trips up most people because most people do not actually open and close the Hibernate sessions themselves but have that taken care of by an underlying framework. For example, if you are using Spring you are likely using the #Transactional and #PersistenceContext annotations which are opening and closing sessions under the hood (in this case, the session is closed when the transaction ends, e.g. when you leave the scope of the #Transactional method).
Ultimately, however you are doing things, the solutions available are the same. The easiest solution is to simply mark the Encounter's provider relationship as an eager relationship (e.g. #ManyToMany(... fetch=FetchType.EAGER ...)) but this may have performance implications if there are lots of places you load Encounter objects and not Provider objects.
Another "global" solution would be to extend your transaction scope so that the processing of the JSP is actually inside your transaction for the request. This is often done by putting the start and stop of the transaction in filters. Although sometimes this does not work for people either.
A very targetted solution is to use the static method Hibernate.initialize() to initialize each object before you pass it to the JSP layer:
List<Encounter> encountersforday = (List<Encounter>) clinicService.getEncountersForDay(mydate);
for(Encounter encounter: encountersforday) {
Hibernate.initialize(encounter.getProviders());
}
There may be other solutions as well, but these are the ones that jump to mind. I hope you can make progress with this.
My #Transactionnal annotations seems to be ignored. I have no errors on the initialization of the Spring container. It looks like my method has not been proxied by Spring TX framework. During the execution of my service's method, an expected RuntimeException is thrown by the JDBCTemplate. The problem is that the JDBC connection is not rolledbacked and changes are persisted. The stacktrace doesn't show any sign of the proxy who is supposed to wrap my service's method.
Edit : Added the Controller's code
Edit 2 : Added the Service's Interface
Here is my Service Interface.
public interface ApplicationsService {
public Application getApplicationById(int id);
public void createApplication(Application application);
public void createInstance(Application application);
public Map<Integer, Application> getUserApplications(String username);
public Application newApplication(String email);
}
Here is my Service.
#Service
public class ApplicationsServiceImpl implements ApplicationsService {
...
#Transactional
public void createApplication(Application application){
// Persisting the application.
applicationDAO.createApplication(application);
application.setId(
applicationDAO.findApplicationId(application.getName(), application.getAccount().getEmail())
);
// Creating the physical instance.
createInstance(application);
}
...
}
Spring Controller responsible for the method call.
#Controller
#RequestMapping("/applications")
public class ApplicationsController {
...
#Autowired
private ApplicationsService applicationsService;
...
#RequestMapping(method=RequestMethod.POST)
public String saveApplication(
#Valid Application application,
BindingResult bindingResult,
Principal principal
){
application.setAccount(this.accountService.getAccount(principal.getName()));
this.applicationsService.createApplication(application);
return "application/creatingApplication";
}
...
}

My guess is that you've put your service beans in the context that belongs to the dispatcher servlet, where only controller beans are supposed to live, and then you've declared your transaction beans in the root context. The annotation-based transaction auto-proxying only applies within a single context, so your service beans in the other (wrong) context won't be affected. See my answer to "Why DispatcherServlet creates another application context?" for a fuller description of the problem. The root problem is that you don't understand how contexts are organized in a Spring MVC application.
You need to define an interface for the #Transactional annotations to work:
public interface ApplicationsService {
public void createApplication(Application application);
}
And the concrete class:
#Service
public class ApplicationsServiceImpl {
#Transactional
public void createApplication(Application application) {
// ...
}
}
Alternatively, per Kevin Welker's comment, if don't want an interface (though you probably should write an interface), you can configure use proxy-target-class:
<tx:annotation-driven proxy-target-class="true" />
edit
The message from your SQLException is:
Field 'status' doesn't have a default value
So maybe you're passing in null where you should be providing a value? Alternatively, check this post for some weirdness associated with this error.
After three days of debugging, I finally found the reason why my annotations were ignored.
The <tx:annotation-driven/> instruction located in a child context file doesn't have access to the beans created by its parent Spring context.
I had to move it to the myapp-servlet.xml used by my request dispatcher.
Now, it is working properly.
I'm getting the following exception..

The problem I'm pretty sure of is in my DAO...
public class UserDAO {
public User getById(Long id) {
HibernateUtil.buildSessionFactory();
Session session = HibernateUtil.getSessionFactory().getCurrentSession();
session.beginTransaction();
User user = (User) session.load(User.class, id);
session.getTransaction().commit();
return user;
}
}
Is this the correct way to handle the transactions? Should I do buildSessionFactory every time I want to return an object? Is it better to only do it once?
session.beginTransaction() returns the Transaction object, you should call the commit into that instance. You are handling two separate transactions in each session.getTransaction().
Also make sure you close the session (session.close()) in any place.
http://docs.jboss.org/hibernate/orm/3.5/reference/es-ES/html/example-weblog.html
Try
HibernateUtil.getSessionFactory().beginSession();
instead of ...getSessionFactory().getCurrentSession();
In your case, if no session has been previously created, you're not retrieving an active session.
I have a Spring MVC webapp that should serve static resources.
Therefore I have the following spring configuration:

I tried it with version 3.1.0.RELEASE and 3.0.4.RELEASE of the spring framework and observed the exact same behavior.
You may be missing mvc:annotation-driven in your configuration, that is the one which registers the property editor to transform from string to a resource, that is likely causing this error message for you.
This is really weird, but the problem seems to be, that I had defined a conversion service like this:
<bean id="conversionService" class="org.springframework.format.support.FormattingConversionServiceFactoryBean">
<property name="converters">
<list>
<bean class="com.example.CustomConverter" />
</list>
</property>
</bean>
Which was referenced here:
<mvc:annotation-driven conversion-service="conversionService" />
Turns out if I change the bean id to something different like f. e. cs it works fine. This is really strange as the same id is used in the documentation and the showcases.
