You want to call all your add* functions first. Then in the loop of fillArrayListOfBooks() use those values.

I've created two expandable menus in my application but seem to have messed up somewhere. Each menu displays duplicate content when they should each have their own list content.

I am trying to create an ArrayList from a given array. This is the array I have:

Now where should I change the processing from an array to an arraylist? Is this supposed to be done in the constructor or somewhere else? Thanks.
Why not use this?
List<Item> stockList = Arrays.asList(stock);
Just keep a separate class for the array and within the class that you want to get that specific array you can create an ArrayList Object.

And the within the next class,

and when ever you want to add a value to that array just create a new instance and then save it.
arrayList = new ArrayList<ArrayaData>();

arrayList = new ArrayList<ArrayaData>();
arrayList.Id = "Value 2 you want.."
Or you can simply set it in a Loop as well,

And to get the vlaues you can use a Loop also,

My assignment asks me to make a TV show program, where I can input shows, delete, modify and sort them. What I'm stuck on is the sorting part. With the show, it asks for the name, day a new episode premieres, and time. Those are the keys I need to sort it by.
The program prompts the user to input one of those keys, then the program needs to sort (sorting by day will sort alphabetically).
I made a class and used an array. Here is the class:

Since you have to use a custom made sorting algorithm and support different ways to sort the data, then you just have to change the way you compare your data. This mean, in your current code, change this part

To something more generic like
if (compare(arr[j], arr[min]) < 0) {
min = j;
}
Where you only need to change the implementation of the compare method by the one you need. Still, it will be too complex to create and maintain a method that can support different ways to compare the data. So the best option seems to be a Comparator<showInfo>, making your code look like this:

min = j;
}
where the showInfoComparator holds the logic to compare the elements. Now your intSort would become into something more generic:

Other tips for your current code:
Declare the names of the classes using CamelCase, where the first letter of the class name is Upper Case, so your showInfo class must be renamed to ShowInfo.
To access to the fields of a class, use proper getters and setters instead of marking the fields as public or leaving the with default scope. This mean, your ShowInfo class should become into:

Why not you use a Collection for this sort of a thingy to work. Moreover, in your added example, you are simply changing one attribute of a given object, while sorting, though you not changing the position of the object as a whole, inside the given list.
Create a List which will contain the references of all the Shows, now compare each attribute of one Show with another, in the List. Once the algorithm feels like, that swapping needs to be done, simply pick the reference from the List, save it in a temp variable, replace it with a new reference at this location, and set duplicate to the one stored in the temp variable. You are done, List is sorted :-)

So this is what is happening. I have the class that I have included in this question. I created and object of this class and populated the ArrayList in this class with information from a file, then I serialized the object. Later on, I added the initNameMap() method, and added a Map initialized as a TreeMap. Now, I have deserialized the object I serialized before, and I can retrieve the information in it, but when I call the initNameMap() method it gives me the following exceptions:
java.lang.IndexOutOfBoundsException: Index: 2, Size: 1 at this segment of code:
String name = array.get(i).get(2);
and a java.lang.NullPointerException at this segment of code:
nameMap.put(name, infoHolder);
I simply do not understand why this is happening. It is extremely confusing for me, specially the indexoutofbounds exception. Could anyone explain this to me? Does it have anything to do with the serialization? Thanks
array.get(i).get(2);
The nested ArrayList in
array
has a size of 1, so when you try to get the 2nd element(which doesn't exist) you are getting the OutOfBoundsException.
name
will be null as a result. You need to figure out why the nested ArrayList in array does not have two elements as expected.
