I have Java 1.6 on my machine and I cannot (not allowed) to install Java 1.7. I've tried Android Studio and the Eclipse Android plugin. Both require Java 1.7.
What do I need to do to develop Android apps with Java 1.6?
I know in Android Studio you can set the Java SDK in file -> project settings -> project - > edit under Project SDK
Not sure if you need to download a different Android SDK to fit the Java version, but you can start there if you haven't already.
In Eclipse, just open Window/Preferences:
and choose your favourite Java version.

I want to install Android Studio in Linux Ubuntu 22.04. Then, how to install Android Studio properly, and do i have to install java first? If I have to install java, what version of java should me to install? Thank you
Absolutely. Android apps are written in Java. You need to have a JDK installed to compile and run the application code which you have written.
I recently bought a new MacBook. I installed the Android SDK and Studio and then I imported my project. AS suggested to use the bundled Open JDK for my project. I accepted and I am able to build and run my project via AS.
The problem is, my command line doesn't work :(
==> ./gradlew clean
No Java runtime present, requesting install.
After running the above code the following alert displays. This web page will be open when I click on the More Info button.
After I searched I realized that I have to have JDK installed on my laptop. I remember -from thousand years ago- that I have to have JDK 8 on my laptop. I also heard that android projects work with JDK 11.
It looks like the latest JDK is 15. So, what should I do? What is the latest JDK that can be used for Android app development?
Anything Java 8 or above is fine.
Find path to JDK in File > Project Structure, Tab SDK Location > JDK Location.
In MacOS, installed Virtual Machines are normally placed in /Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/*
I recently installed IntelliJ IDEA CE on my Mac. Now IntelliJ doesn't comes with Android SDK or JDK by default, so IntelliJ asked me to first setup a Java JDK then setup Android SDK. Now I also have Android Studio installed on my Mac, now since Android Studio comes by default with Android SDK and Open JDK, I didn't took the pain to download Android SDK and JDK again so I simply set the path to Android Studio's JDK and Android SDK for IntelliJ so my question is will this result in any confliction between Android Studio and IntelliJ?
I want to develop a Windows application using Java SDK and eclipse, also I want to develop an Android app while using the same PC and eclipse. Is it possible to do both as I`m not sure if I set up eclipse and install the Android Development Tools (ADT) will I still be able to develop the Windows application at the same time???
No - all ADT does is use the existing JDK environment :)
You can just download the Android Development Tools from the Android website.
The Android Development Tools is nothing more than Eclipse modified with the ADT Plug in preinstalled.
In it, you have the option to create both Android projects and plain old Java projects.
So, downloading the Android Development Tools alone will give you everything you need.
If you already had Eclipse set up, installing the ADT yourself into it will not take away any functionality from Eclipse, it will just add ADT functionality on top of it.
No, it does not alter it.
You will have the Android SDKs on their own folders and has nothing to do with JDK.
Im trying to get started with app development. Isnt this the corrent JDK if i want to use eclipse + android plugin?
Java SE Development Kit 7u5: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jdk7-downloads-1637583.html
When i try to install the android SDK tools it tells me that i dont have the correct JDK installed.
And yes, ive tried this already: Android SDK installation doesn't find JDK
Thanks
Java 7 is not officially supported by the Android SDK at this time. Please use the latest version of the Java 6 JDK.
UPDATE: Java 7 is now supported.
