I have problem. My code work good on my localhost machine. But when I deploy .war on server It can't send email. I don't know why.
Server is in the same network and ping with succes. mserv3.int.pan.wroc.pl So it's not problem with DNS.
My local dev machine: Ubuntu 14.04 + Tomcat 7
Server: CentOS 6 + Tomcat 7

My server hostname
bash> hostname
vm10.int.pan.wroc.pl
I add:
props.put("mail.smtp.localhost", "vm10.int.pan.wroc.pl");
and now it work, but I don't understand why. I have to share my .war. People should not have to edit this on every machine with CentOS 6.

The stacktrace tells you the cause of the problem:
Caused by: javax.mail.MessagingException: Can't get local hostname. Please correctly configure JDK/DNS or set mail.smtp.localhost
It seems, as if JavaMail is not able to determine the name of the host it is running on. Try the advices in the exception.
What is the result of the following statment?
bash> cat /etc/hostname
If it is impossible to set a hostname or get a name via DNS, then try to use the property mail.smtp.localhost.
Here is the source code of the failing method. Perhaps the JavaDoc of the called #getHostName()-method is helpful:
Gets the fully qualified domain name for this IP address. Best effort method, meaning we may not be able to return the FQDN depending on the underlying system configuration.
If there is a security manager, this method first calls its checkConnect method with the hostname and -1 as its arguments to see if the calling code is allowed to know the hostname for this IP address, i.e., to connect to the host. If the operation is not allowed, it will return the textual representation of the IP address.

UnirestException: connect timed out on Tomcat 7

At work, I am trying to deploy a java 8-based application on Tomcat 7 server.
The application should call some RESTful api based on another server (which is still ours). By reading some resources online I decided to use a HTTP request client library called Unirest.
I tried to call the api using Postman and everything works fine.
I deployed my application on my LOCAL Tomcat 7 server and it runs smoothly without problems and Unirest does its job correctly.
When I deploy the application on the Tomcat 7 server, every Unirest call, leads to a connect timeout.
This is the stacktrace:

I haven't find any clue on the internet about how this can happen. The really strange thing is that Unirest calls correctly the api on my local Tomcat.
Here a snapshot of the code that I use to call the api:
public static String getAccessToken() {
logger.log(Level.FINE, "calling smartfabauth to get authentication token");
String accessToken = "";
try {
Unirest.setTimeouts(0, 0); // NO TIMEOUT
HttpResponse<JsonNode> response = Unirest.post(POST_TOKEN_ENDPOINT)
.header("content-type", "application/x-www-form-urlencoded")
.header("cache-control", "no-cache")
.body("grant_type=" + GRANT_TYPE + "&client_id=" + CLIENT_ID + "&client_secret=" + CLIENT_SECRET + "&scope=" + SCOPE)
.asJson();
accessToken = response.getBody().getObject().getString("access_token");
} catch (UnirestException | JSONException e) {
logger.log(Level.SEVERE, "[Exception] getAccessToken", e);
}
logger.log(Level.FINE, "authentication token obtained");
return accessToken;
}
Note that POST_TOKEN_ENDPOINT, GRANT_TYPE, CLIENT_ID, CLIENT_SECRET and SCOPE are some constants declared in class necessary to correctly call the api.
Any help would be apreciated.
Thanks in advance.
I suspect this is a firewall/proxy issue.
You can check the connectivity by pinging srv-erp2web.rold.corp from the machine where you want to run Tomcat 7.
If you see packet loss, try below tracert(windows) or traceroute(*nix) machines.
Usual syntax is tracert srv-erp2web.rold.corp
Above tracert shows the request path from source to destination. And also tells where the request is failing.
If the packet loss is because of proxy server, provide proxy host, port and credentials if any.
If the packet loss is because of firewall, enable the port.
Hope this helps!

email sending code not working on ubuntu

I need to send email through my web-application to some gmail account. I have written and tested code in windows machine and it works well. it sends emails from windows (Apache tomcat). But not able to send emails when hosted on Ubuntu in same Apache tomcat version.
what i have tried so far is :
tried both the ports 465 and 587
tried to add ports using command sudo ufw allow 465
but i still get same error.

In my case problem was with proxy. for help in checking the connectivity problem please go through the links in comments.

Issue to cast proxy object

I try to integrate CMIS using HANA Cloud Document service with Maven and Spring.
When I try to use that code without Maven/Spring context, it works fine.
(To better understand, please take a look here: http://scn.sap.com/community/developer-center/cloud-platform/blog/2013/04/13/document-management-using-hana-cloud-document-service-on-android)
Session openCmisSession = null;
EcmService ecmSvc = null;
InitialContext ctx = new InitialContext();
String lookupName = "java:comp/env/" + "EcmService";
try
{
Object obj = ctx.lookup(lookupName);
ecmSvc = (EcmService) obj;
}
catch (Exception e)
{
e.printStackTrace();
}
Using Spring, the exception occurs when it tries to cast proxy object.
ecmSvc = (EcmService) obj; //Here, the EcmService is a interface
The exception is:
java.lang.ClassCastException: com.sun.proxy.$Proxy146 cannot be cast to com.sap.ecm.api.EcmService

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.
On a best bet I'd think that you are packing the resp. client libraries into your application so they clash with the ones already provided by the platform (due to different classloaders).
Double-check this.
Additionally should the problem not be caused by my assumption, you can check for another workaround here: http://scn.sap.com/thread/3803685

can't connect to smtp server in development environment

so here's the problem I'm having:
When I'm trying to connect to an smtp sever, and when I try it in netbeans, it gives me an error saying I can't connect:
I know that my computer can connect to the mail server, since telnet works perfectly fine when I try it, which makes me think the issue is with the code.
However when the program I wrote is used on a different computer, it works just fine. According to wireshark, the program never tried to connect to the mail server.
I've tried making myself an administrator on the firewall, and that has no affect on the program.
here's the code I'm using:
private static final Properties SYS_PROPS = System.getProperties();
public void sendEmail(String user, String Message, String subject, String recipient) throws ResourceException {
try {
//Set the host property
SYS_PROPS.setProperty("mail.smtp.host", "host");
System.setProperty("java.net.preferIPv4Stack" , "true");
//Create a session for all the emails
Session session = Session.getDefaultInstance(SYS_PROPS);
//Get the name of the contact peep
String name = user;
//Create a new message
MimeMessage message = new MimeMessage(session);
MimeMultipart multiPart = new MimeMultipart();
//Set to, from, and subject
message.setFrom(new InternetAddress("http://localhost:8084/appName"));
message.addRecipient(RecipientType.TO, new InternetAddress(recipient));
message.setSubject(subject);
//Next, add the message part
BodyPart arm = new MimeBodyPart();
arm.setContent(Message, "text/html");
multiPart.addBodyPart(arm);
//Set the multipart to the message
message.setContent(multiPart);
//Send the message
Transport.send(message);
} catch (MessagingException ex) {
log(ex);
}
}
My current theory is that I somehow have to configure netbeans, or tomcat, to allow me to send mail.
I would really appreciate any help that you can give!
I'm getting this error when I use the program:
SEVERE: null
com.sun.mail.util.MailConnectException: Couldn't connect to host, port: 10.1.0.5, 25; timeout -1;

mysql jdbc Query from a Servlet (tomcat server)

I'm confused with a little code of mine.
I wrote a function, that executes a query on a mySQL database and returns the content as a string.
I have a Class for testing purposes.
public static void main(String[] args) {
System.out.println(funct());
}
public static String funct(){
DBOps dbops=new DBOps();
String s=(dbops.read("select * from db.table"));
return s;
}
Executing main() works absolutely fine and returns the desired String
But if I want to execute funkt() in a Servlet, shit hits the fan.
protected void doGet(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response) throws ServletException, IOException {
PrintWriter out = response.getWriter();
out.println(HTML_START + "<h2>Hello!</h2><br></br><h2> " + Test.funct() + " </h2>" +HTML_END);
}
The Servlet is executed on a tomcat Server.
Tomcat starts up just fine.
From the errors that are appearing it seems to be some kind of JDBC problem, what should not be the possible, since the JDBC runs fine, when funct() is not executed in the Servlet.
This is the part with the jdbc actions in it:
String url="jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/db";
String username ="root";
String password ="pass";
private ResultSet getDB(String q){ //q is the input query
try {
Class.forName("com.mysql.jdbc.Driver");
connect = DriverManager.getConnection(url, username, password);
statement = connect.createStatement();
resultSet = statement.executeQuery(q);
System.out.println(writeResults(resultSet));
}
Then I get this bunch of errors:

I really hope someone can help me, since I'm staring to get a little frustrated over here >.<
You have to download and add the mysql connector (mysql driver for java) to your tomcat's lib directory or provide this jar within your projects classpath (and should be deployed with the webapplication). If you're using maven you could declare it as dependency within your project. In this case check this.
