Error Page Directive in web.xml not working - java

I am trying to simply get my default error page to display when an error occurs. I have tried every configuration I can think of, but I just can't get it to work. When I navigate directly to the error page it works, but errors will not direct there (in the native Eclipse browser or any mainstream browser).
There are no errors in the DD.
Here is how I currently have the DD:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<web-app xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns="http://xmlns.jcp.org/xml/ns/javaee" xsi:schemaLocation="http://xmlns.jcp.org/xml/ns/javaee http://xmlns.jcp.org/xml/ns/javaee/web-app_3_1.xsd" version="3.1">

<servlet>
<servlet-name>GetUser</servlet-name>
<servlet-class>com.example.web.GetUser</servlet-class>
</servlet>
<servlet-mapping>
<servlet-name>GetUser</servlet-name>
<url-pattern>/GetUser.do</url-pattern>
</servlet-mapping>
<session-config>
<session-timeout>15</session-timeout>
</session-config>
<jsp-config>
<taglib>
<taglib-uri>Functions</taglib-uri>
<taglib-location>/WEB-INF/functions.tld</taglib-location>
</taglib>
</jsp-config>

</error-page>
<error-page>
<exception-type>java.io.IOException</exception-type>
<location>/MyApp/errorPage.jsp</location>
</error-page>
</web-app>
(I'm specifying 429 because the API I am working with has been throwing those to me recently)
Here is the error page:
<%# page language="java" contentType="text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1"
pageEncoding="ISO-8859-1" isErrorPage="true" %>
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd">

<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1">
<title>You blew it</title>
</head>
<body>
<p>You caused a ${pageContext.exception} exception</p>
</body>
</html>
If it helps, here is the 429 error, and subsequent IOException error log I am getting (not looking to solve this here, just in case it helps).

Seems to me that the cause is a missing library in your classpath. Specifically, you have some classes annotated with #javax.persistence.PersistenceUnit, but this class is missing from the classpath. So I suggest you list all the libraries deployed in the test webserver (including the /lib libraries) and compare them with the ones deployed in your local server, paying special attention to some of these:
persistence.jar
javaee-api-*.jar
annotations-api-*.jar
.. which are the standard libraries in which javax.persistence.PersistenceUnit class might be present.

Java rest API returns HTTP status 404

I have a simple REST API i am trying to get running and it's giving me a HTTP 404 error. AFAICS it looks right but obv not ...
Tomcat is running and i get the Eclipse browser come up with HTTP404. Tomcat doesnt help with all its errors but they are all just warnings but i can pop them in here if needed, will clutter the question though.
I think its to do with the jersey format, the xml or both but not sure.
*****Updated the question to include a xml update and a tomcat error.******
My class is thus:
package WS;
import javax.ws.rs.GET;
import javax.ws.rs.Path;
import javax.ws.rs.Produces;
import javax.ws.rs.core.MediaType;
//annotations
#Path("/book")
public class Book{
#GET
#Produces(MediaType.TEXT_XML)
public String sayHelloXML(){
String response = "<?xml version='1.0'?><hello>Hello there</hello>";
return response;
}
}
My Xml is thus: (note i think im using jersey 2.0 so i dont have to have anything here right?)
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<web-app xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns="http://xmlns.jcp.org/xml/ns/javaee" xsi:schemaLocation="http://xmlns.jcp.org/xml/ns/javaee http://xmlns.jcp.org/xml/ns/javaee/web-app_3_1.xsd" id="WebApp_ID" version="3.1">

That's not enough in the web.xml. You still need to configure Jersey, as it's the runtime that handle the JAX-RS processing. You can either do it with web.xml
<servlet>
<servlet-name>MyApplication</servlet-name>
<servlet-class>org.glassfish.jersey.servlet.ServletContainer</servlet-class>
<init-param>
<param-name>jersey.config.server.provider.packages</param-name>
<!-- The package where your resource classes are -->
<param-value>WS</param-value>
</init-param>
</servlet>
<servlet-mapping>
<servlet-name>MyApplication</servlet-name>
<url-pattern>/api/*</url-pattern>
</servlet-mapping>
Or without web.xml
#ApplicationPath("/api")
public class MyApplication extends ResourceConfig {
public MyApplication() {
packages("WS");
}
}
With both options, /api will be the app url prefix. You can change it.
For more information check out Servlet Based Deployment from the Jersey User Guide.

i think the problem is in the Hibernate Helper but i can't figured where
any advise?

}
}
public static final SessionFactory getSessionFactory() {

}
I had same kind of problem when using following combination.
Struts 2.5 jar
Hibernate 4.3.5.Final
MySQL connector 6.0.3
Java 7
On changing mysql-connector-java to lower version 5.1.10, it solved. Please check your mySQL connector compatibility with your Spring and Hibernate jars. You can see your spring jars configuration as well.

Eclipse + Velocity = HTTP Status 500

I have huge problems trying to get the simplest Velocity project to run in Eclipse 4.4 (Luna).
I created a dynamic web project running on a Tomcat 7.0 server which has been setup and started from within Eclipse.
I add a simple index.vm to the WebContent folder:
<html>
<body>
#set( $foo = "Velocity" )
Hello $foo World!
</body>
<html>
I modify the web.xml like so:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<web-app xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee"
xmlns:web="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee/web-app_2_5.xsd"
xsi:schemaLocation="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee
http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee/web-app_2_5.xsd" id="WebApp_ID"
version="2.5">
<display-name>Velocity_Test</display-name>
<welcome-file-list>
<welcome-file>index.vm</welcome-file>
</welcome-file-list>
<servlet>
<servlet-name>velocity</servlet-name>
<servlet-class>
org.apache.velocity.tools.view.servlet.VelocityViewServlet
</servlet-class>
</servlet>
<servlet-mapping>
<servlet-name>velocity</servlet-name>
<url-pattern>*.vm</url-pattern>
</servlet-mapping>
</web-app>
No init-params are used.
The problem seems to be with the jars.
I have tried to copy the two Velocity 1.7 jars into the WEB-INF/lib folder.
I have tried to add the jars as external jars in the java build path properties.
I have tried to add the references to the jars in the deployment assembly.
Yet, no matter what I try the result is always:

Any help would be welcome.
Cheers,

The reason is the ClassNotFoundException. Add the dependencies to the project. If you use maven (or another tool to build your projects) is as simple as adding the dependency to the pom.xml file.
<dependency>
<groupId>org.apache.velocity</groupId>
<artifactId>velocity</artifactId>
<version>1.7</version>
</dependency>
