Issues with javac compilation errors and Maven dependency resolution - java

I'm a "noob" when it comes to Maven. I've used ANT in the past, but not enough Maven to make it "stick" with me.
Here is my problem. I'm attempting to write a java program that will parse JSON files for relevant information and then generate CSV files for upload using a proprietary tool that only uploads CSV files. I built the project using Maven. The program will use the Google Gson library, which I listed as a dependency in my POM file (included below). When I execute "mvn compile", Maven returns an error indicating that the package Maven should be resolving via its dependency management features doesn't exist.
Specific error:
"error: package com.google.code.gson does not exist"

I have an import statement in my java application class which should be resolvable based upon Maven downloading my dependencies, if my understanding of Maven is correct. Here is the import statement.

So my question is, why will Maven not compile my code? I don't think I have misconfigured the import nor the POM file. Though, that is always debatable! I can go to my local Maven "repo" and see that the jars were, in fact, downloaded. I'm fairly certain that the error is "user error", so where am I making the mistakes?
I don't believe "provided" is the correct dependency because the jar files are needed for successful compilation and must be downloaded (since no container server or other mechanism will resolve them for me). The application will execute as a jar itself.

in your version of gson it must be

I have a java azure function that was running package azure-functions-maven-plugin version 1.3, trying to upgrade the package to anything 1.4 or greater when I try to package the function I get the following error:

I m unable to find a solution online on what is causing this error, hoping someone out there has an idea

It seems to be the issue in pom.xml code like either the tags are misspelled or the azure functions maven plugin code is missing or written wrong.
There is a similar issue here resolved by specifying the runtime and correcting the misspelt tags/code.
Also, Please make changes in your pom.xml file by comparing with my pom.xml as I see in the given pom.xml is missing the azure.functions.maven.plugin.version, runtime OS property etc. (https://i.imgur.com/uVkrUfU.png, https://i.imgur.com/ccu4BrW.png).

I tried to run the Azure Functions Project (Java Stack) in VS Code and it come up with many issues regarding to loading the dependencies, Java Compiler Packages etc. and finally running the function successfully by following the below steps:

Created the Azure Java Functions Project through VS Code and run the function successfully:

Created azure functions project using maven-archetype-quickstart template and is working good.
Run this command in your VS Code terminal:

Since archetypes are templates and they intend to reflect current best practices, they can evolve in time, thus they have their own versions. Maven will ask you which version of the archetype you want to use. By default, maven chooses latest version for you. so if you agree to use the latest version of an archetype, just press Enter at this step;
Every maven project (and module) has its groupId, artifactId and version. Maven will then ask these to you in three steps. groupId: This is generally unique amongst an organization or a project. artifactId: The artifactId is generally the name that the project is known by. version: This is the last piece of the naming puzzle.(read more)
Finally, maven will ask you the package structure for your code. A best practice is to create your folder structure that reflects the groupId, thus Maven sets this as default but you are free to change this.
After entering these information, Maven will show you all the information you entered and ask you to verify project creation. If you press Y and then enter, voila your project is created with the artifact and settings you chose.

maven war plugin does not forget about old files and dependencies and creates a war that contains removed files and dependencies

Hello I'm having a weird problem about war creation.
I use maven-war-plugin (tried with 3.1.0, 3.2.0, and 2.6). When I run war:war (or mvn clean package, or similars) the war is created but I noticed that it is like it always packages all the files and dependencies it encountered in the history of the project. I noticed this because the war file is always getting bigger and by opening it I see there are a lot of dependencies that I declared on the pom but now they are removed, and most importantly there are classes I deleted from the project! I even tried to start a new project and the result does not change.
I guess I'm using this badly... Is there something I should do to let him "forget" about the history and force it to consider the project "as it is" when creating a war?

EDIT1: I tried to change versions of maven-war-plugin, maven-compiler-plugin, and Maven itself, but nothing changes.
EDIT2: I tried changing the output directory, no changes. I tried to change version of the dependencies and as "expected" now the war includes both versions, becoming bigger and bigger...
EDIT3: I reinstalled IntelliJ IDEA, upgrading to the latest version. Nothing changes, it has only reset the content of the package, but it still "keep track" of the content and dependencies and still includes removed stuff on the package when creating a new one.
EDIT4: I've started using mvn clean compile war:war instead of mvn clean package and at first things started working, but then the problem of the existing old files returned. However, I find out that if I manually remove the exceding resources and *.class from the war it looks it works (at least it's deployed).
It's just a trick worked for me many times,
Backup your dependencies from pom.xml and delete it.
Do a clean build, it will show errors in all Java classes. Also delete the previous war.
Now, replace those backed up dependencies and clean build the webapp again. All errors will be disappeared and war file will be as expected.

no native library found for maven plugin project

I want to integrate a leap motion app into Weasis Dicom Viewer.
Projects:
Weasis-maven-plugin -> where my leap implementation is
Weasis-framework -> dicom viewer
Weasis-launcher -> This is where I launch the Dicom viewer.
What I've done already:
have m2e with eclipse and added the LeapJava.jar to plugin project and set the location of the native library
installed LeapJava.jar into the .m2/repository folder so that mvn install on my maven plugin build succeeds
added into the pom.xml of maven-plugin
updated maven project
what doesn't work:
when i launch the application, I get no LeapJava in java.library.path
I've seen some other threads that says I need to manually add -Djava.library.path to the VM arguments. However, when I add that to the launcher run config in eclipse the library not found still exists. Should I be adding this somewhere? Any help is greatly appreciated.

When I add the "systemPath" I can still mvn install properly but when i run the launcher project now I get org.osgi.framework.BundleException: "Unresolved constraint in bundle"

Not sure if this is the actual solution.
But I added:
nativedependency-plugin in my pom.xml
made sure to do mvn package on the plugin project folder (this generated some files under target/ folder
added -Djava.library.path to the VM argument and it compiles and runs!

Maven error when pom.xml is packaged an ejb, but goes away when packaged as jar

When I package my pom.xml as an EJB I get an error that I do not understand. This error shows up if I touch the package in any way, to include Ctrl+S and Maven update. The error goes away if I change the packaging back to jar.

Even though I can remove the error, I still feel like it should be packaged as an ejb. Does this make sense to anyone? Does my EJB package need to be packaged as a EJB in the pom? I should admit that my skills with Maven are around that of a novice/low intermediate.
Try adding this configuration in your POM. The EJB plugin (which is bound to the lifecycle by default when you select ejb packaging type) doesn't use the same version of the archiver that the jar/war/ear plugins do.
There is a JIRA issue for updating the dependency versions, however it has not been worked yet.

MEJB-52 is fixed in maven-ejb-plugin version 2.4 and later. Consider updating the plugin version to the latest before adding this configuration.

Question about maven

I read some useful posts here on SO about previous maven questions, I'm currently very interested in learning maven(cause I like it and because my boss requires me to). I'm currently reading [this][1] book and I'm working my way trough examples. Its a straightforward book but its has some errors inside(trivial ones), yet for a newbie like me can be hard to spot, once spotted it can be easily fixed. Is there any other book better to understand maven from top to bottom?
Second part of the question is relating an example in this book, maybe a simple explanations would resolve my doubts.
Here is the thing, I made a simple-weather project in java which retrieves the weather conditions from yahoo weather server, given the particular zip code it returns weather information.
Then I made an 'simple-webapp'(with maven as well as the one above I forgot to mention that), which is basicaly a web project which has some default servlet already there with maven and it does nothing.
And I have some parent-project I wanna merge those two projects into one, so I made a pom.xml which has 2 modules , 1 to retrieve info(java project) and other to display it on the web (web app).
I made everything work at the end, but here is the odd thing .. if I make webapp display any string "name" lets say then build it independently, it does exactly print that string. But when I put the webapp in the "parent-project" and change this string to "name1" and build it as sa partent-project sub module.. nothing changes ..
So I go back to the point, because simple-webapp is dependent on simple-weather I can't build it anymore on its own, so now if I wanna make some changes to the webapp.. modify the webapp outside the "parent-project" build it there then paste it back to the parent-project and then the changes will apply, why is that, why can't I directly change the servlet content/or add another one in the webapp as the part of the "parent-project"?

I am not sure to completely understand your question. However, let's explain some principles in Maven.
So you have such a structure:
parent
+ simple-weather
+ simple-webapp
On a Maven point of view, we have 3 projects here:
parent, which is a pom project (i.e. its packaging attribute is set to pom)
simple-weather, which is a jar project and has parent as parent.
simple-webapp, which is a war project, has parent as parent and simple-weather as dependency.
The parent projects uses two concepts in Maven:
The inheritance, which say that all of his children (simple-weather and simple-webapp) will inherit all of his properties (this concept is almost the same thing as the extends in Java).
The aggregation, which is defined by the definition of <modules>. Aggregation means that every command that will be run on the project will also be run on each module.
What happen if I build (using mvn clean install) on the parent directory?
Maven will "compile" the parent project and then install the pom.xml in the local repository.
Maven will compile the simple-weather project, but as it has a parent, Maven will look the parent pom.xml file into the local repository. Once the JAR is created, it is installed in the local repository.
Maven will finally compile the simple-webapp project. Maven will do the same thing for the parent pom.xml, but also for the simple-weather project.
The situtation explained in the 3rd point is important: If you want to build the simple-webapp project, Maven will always try to find all of his dependencies - including simple-weather - from the local (or distant) repository.
That's why if you build only the simple-webapp without building and installing simple-weather, Maven will not find the latter project, or will find an older version.
So to summarize, when you work on multi-modules project with Maven, try to always run the build and install commands from the root (or parent) directory.
