sound not playing in gridview - java

i'm triyng to create an app which plays sound on image click in android grid view. I have written some code but the sound does not play. Here is my main_activity.xml
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:soundEffectsEnabled="true"
tools:context="cf.droiddev.animalsoundskids.MainActivity" >
<GridView
android:id="#+id/gridview"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:numColumns="auto_fit"
android:verticalSpacing="10dp"
android:horizontalSpacing="10dp"
android:stretchMode="columnWidth"
android:gravity="center" />
</RelativeLayout>
Here is my MainActivity.java
package cf.droiddev.animalsoundskids;
import java.io.IOException;
import android.app.Activity;
import android.content.res.AssetFileDescriptor;
import android.media.MediaPlayer;
import android.os.Bundle;
import android.view.View;
import android.widget.AdapterView;
import android.widget.AdapterView.OnItemClickListener;
import android.widget.GridView;
import android.widget.Toast;
public class MainActivity extends Activity {
/** Called when the activity is first created. */
#Override
public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);
GridView gridview = (GridView) findViewById(R.id.gridview);
gridview.setAdapter(new ImageAdapter(this));
gridview.setOnItemClickListener(new OnItemClickListener() {
public void onItemClick(AdapterView<?> parent, View v, int position, long id) {
Toast.makeText(MainActivity.this, "" + position, Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();
try {
String filename="sound_" + Integer.toString(position) + ".wav";
AssetFileDescriptor afd = getAssets().openFd(filename);
if(afd != null) {
MediaPlayer mp = new MediaPlayer();
mp.setDataSource(afd.getFileDescriptor(),afd.getStartOffset(), afd.getLength());
mp.prepare();
mp.start();
}
} catch (IOException e) {
e.printStackTrace();
}
}
});
}
}
And Here is ImageAdapter.java
package cf.droiddev.animalsoundskids;
import android.widget.BaseAdapter;
import android.content.Context;
import android.view.View;
import android.view.ViewGroup;
import android.widget.GridView;
import android.widget.ImageView;
public class ImageAdapter extends BaseAdapter {
private Context mContext;
public ImageAdapter(Context c) {
mContext = c;
}
public int getCount() {
return mThumbIds.length;
}
public Object getItem(int position) {
return null;
}
public long getItemId(int position) {
return 0;
}
// create a new ImageView for each item referenced by the Adapter
public View getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) {
ImageView imageView;
if (convertView == null) { // if it's not recycled, initialize some attributes
imageView = new ImageView(mContext);
imageView.setLayoutParams(new GridView.LayoutParams(85, 85));
imageView.setScaleType(ImageView.ScaleType.CENTER_CROP);
imageView.setPadding(8, 8, 8, 8);
} else {
imageView = (ImageView) convertView;
}
imageView.setImageResource(mThumbIds[position]);
return imageView;
}
// references to our images
private Integer[] mThumbIds = {
R.drawable.alligator, R.drawable.bear,
R.drawable.cat, R.drawable.cattle,
R.drawable.chickens, R.drawable.chimpanzee,
R.drawable.cow, R.drawable.crocodile,
R.drawable.crow, R.drawable.doberman_pincher,
R.drawable.dolphin, R.drawable.donkey,
R.drawable.duck, R.drawable.elephant,
R.drawable.goat, R.drawable.gorilla,
R.drawable.hawk, R.drawable.horse,
R.drawable.hound, R.drawable.lamb,
R.drawable.lion, R.drawable.monkey,
R.drawable.mosquito, R.drawable.nightingale,
R.drawable.owl, R.drawable.peacock,
R.drawable.penguin, R.drawable.rooster,
R.drawable.sample_29
};
}
Can any one tell me what is wrong in it i have stored my images in drawable folder and sounds in asssets folder.

Try giving Volume manually as in example below
if(afd != null) {
MediaPlayer mp = new MediaPlayer();
mp.setDataSource(afd.getFileDescriptor(),afd.getStartOffset(), afd.getLength());
mp.prepare();
mp.setVolume(1.0f, 1.0f);
mp.start();
}

If you have short sound samples.then its better to use soundpool
SoundPool sp = new SoundPool(5, AudioManager.STREAM_MUSIC, 0);
/** soundId for Later handling of sound pool **/
int soundId = sp.load(context, R.raw.sample_sound, 1); // in 2nd param u have to pass your desire ringtone
sp.play(soundId, 1, 1, 0, 0, 1);

Try this,
MediaPlayer m = new MediaPlayer();
try{
AssetFileDescriptor descriptor = AmbeMaAartiActivity.this.getAssets().openFd("myfile.mp3");
m.setDataSource(descriptor.getFileDescriptor(), descriptor.getStartOffset(), descriptor.getLength() );
descriptor.close();
m.prepare();
m.start();
} catch(Exception e){
// handle error here..
}

Android load full image with recyclerview, cardview and volley from php mysql

The code below downloads images from a server and displays them in a recyclerview using php mysql and volley library as seen in the attached image. As of now when one clicks the image only toasts the image name. I want a user to be able to view the full image on click. Sorry to post all the code but its a desperate situation.

This worked by creating a new activity, then in on item click, get the item clicked position URL, send an intent to the activity with the image URL as extras. Get the image url from the intent in the activity then load the image.

i have applied a Setonitemclicklistener on a custom list view but it doesn't do anything when i click the items

i have tried several methods to make my items clickable i have read about focus and added the lines in my XML file Relative layout. nothing seems to help. the click listener still doesn't seem to do anything for me.. please help!!!

There are Contexts considerations you need to make throught your code. You may be using the wrong Contexts example very big Contexts. For example from what I can see fast one of it is this line in MainFragment.java:
mAdapter=new GalleryAdapter(getActivity().getApplicationContext(),images);
You have passed the application context while you need just Context from Activity. So change that to:
mAdapter=new GalleryAdapter(getActivity(),images); // remove the method getApplicationContext
Try doing that if it will work or else lets try finding more code that may bring a problem.

How can I assign a SoundPool Object to an element created by Gridview in Java?

I'm working on an Android App that displays 151 pictures via Gridview. I have 151 sounds and I want to assign every sound to a single image, so I can play that sound tapping on an Image.
I'm using SoundPool. Ideas about how can I do this thing?
package com.example.thefe.newsmartkedex;
import android.media.AudioManager;
import android.media.SoundPool;
import android.support.v7.app.AppCompatActivity;
import android.os.Bundle;
import android.util.Log;
import android.view.View;
import android.widget.AdapterView;
import android.widget.GridView;
import android.widget.Toast;
import static com.example.thefe.newsmartkedex.R.raw.pkmn1;
public class MainActivity extends AppCompatActivity {
int pkmn1, pkmn2, pkmn3;
SoundPool mySoundPool = new SoundPool (1, AudioManager.STREAM_MUSIC, 0);
#Override
public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);
pkmn1 = mySoundPool.load(this, R.raw.pkmn1, 1);
pkmn2 = mySoundPool.load(this, R.raw.pkmn2, 1);
pkmn3 = mySoundPool.load(this, R.raw.pkmn3, 1);
GridView gridview = (GridView) findViewById(R.id.gridview);
gridview.setAdapter(new ImageAdapter(this));
gridview.setOnItemClickListener(new AdapterView.OnItemClickListener() {
public void onItemClick(AdapterView<?> parent, View v,
int position, long id) {
position += 1; //forget about this
Toast.makeText(MainActivity.this, "" + position,
Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();
mySoundPool.play(/*???*/,1,1,1,0,1);
}
});
};
}
My ImageAdapter Class works like this:
package com.example.thefe.newsmartkedex;
import android.content.Context;
import android.view.View;
import android.view.ViewGroup;
import android.widget.BaseAdapter;
import android.widget.GridView;

Create a model class that holds a reference to your image and the sound associated with it. When an item is clicked, get the object corresponding to the object, load the SoundPool object using the reference and play it.
public class Item {
int imageId;
int soundID;
public Item(int imageId, int soundID){
this.imageId = imageId;
this.soundID = soundID;
}
public int getImageId() {
return imageId;
}
public void setImageId(int imageId) {
this.imageId = imageId;
}
public int getSoundID() {
return soundID;
}
public void setSoundID(int soundID) {
this.soundID = soundID;
}
}
Create a List of Items,
List<Item> items = new ArrayList<Items>();
for(int i = 0; i < 10; i++) {
items.add(new Item(R.drawable.your_image_id, R.raw.your_sound_id));
}
Pass this list to your adapter. You will to modify the constructor of ImageAdapter. Initialize your adapter like this,
GridView gridview = (GridView) findViewById(R.id.gridview);
ImageAdapter adapter = new ImageAdapter(this, items);
gridview.setAdapter(adapter);
Inside you onItemClick,
gridview.setOnItemClickListener(new AdapterView.OnItemClickListener() {
public void onItemClick(AdapterView<?> parent, View v, int position, long id) {
// your code
Item selectedItem = items.get(position);
int soundID = selectedItem.getSoundID();
pkmn1 = mySoundPool.load(MainActivity.this, soundID, 1);
mySoundPool.play(pkmn1, 1, 1, 1, 0, 1);
}
});

Change wallpaper to image selected in Listview - Android

I'm trying to make an app with a listview that contains image preview files and when one of the images in the listview is clicked it is set as the device's wallpaper. My listview XML file looks like this:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<TableLayout
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent">
<TableRow>
<ImageView
android:id="#+id/img"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:gravity="center_horizontal"
android:contentDescription="#string/wallpaper_preview" />
</TableRow>
<TextView
android:id="#+id/txt"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_gravity="center_horizontal"
android:layout_margin="10dp"
android:gravity="center"/>
</TableLayout>
The Java file for the listview looks like this:
package biz.bigtooth.naturewallpapers;
import android.app.Activity;
import android.view.LayoutInflater;
import android.view.View;
import android.view.ViewGroup;
import android.widget.ArrayAdapter;
import android.widget.ImageView;
import android.widget.TextView;
public class CustomList extends ArrayAdapter<String>{
private final Activity context;
private final String[] web;
private final Integer[] imageId;
public CustomList(Activity context,
String[] web, Integer[] imageId) {
super(context, R.layout.list_single, web);
this.context = context;
this.web = web;
this.imageId = imageId;
}
#Override
public View getView(int position, View view, ViewGroup parent) {
LayoutInflater inflater = context.getLayoutInflater();
View rowView= inflater.inflate(R.layout.list_single, null, true);
TextView txtTitle = (TextView) rowView.findViewById(R.id.txt);
ImageView imageView = (ImageView) rowView.findViewById(R.id.img);
txtTitle.setText(web[position]);
imageView.setImageResource(imageId[position]);
return rowView;
}
}
And my main activity java file looks like this:
package biz.bigtooth.naturewallpapers;
import android.app.WallpaperManager;
import android.support.v7.app.AppCompatActivity;
import android.os.Bundle;
import android.view.View;
import android.widget.AdapterView;
import android.widget.ListView;
import android.widget.Toast;
import com.google.android.gms.ads.AdListener;
import com.google.android.gms.ads.AdRequest;
import com.google.android.gms.ads.AdView;
import com.google.android.gms.ads.InterstitialAd;
import com.google.android.gms.ads.MobileAds;
import java.io.IOException;
public class MainActivity extends AppCompatActivity {
InterstitialAd mInterstitialAd;
ListView list;
String[] web = {
"Leaves",
"Lilacs",
"Dandy Lions",
"Twigs",
"Holly",
"White Flowers",
"Cave Pool"
} ;
Integer[] imageId = {
R.drawable.leaves_preview,
R.drawable.lilac_preview,
R.drawable.dandy_lions_preview,
R.drawable.twigs_preview,
R.drawable.holly_preview,
R.drawable.white_flowers_preview,
R.drawable.cave_pool_preview
};
#Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);
MobileAds.initialize(getApplicationContext(), "ca-app-pub-5164171001589422/5381023392");
AdView mAdView = (AdView) findViewById(R.id.adView);
AdRequest adRequest = new AdRequest.Builder().build();
mAdView.loadAd(adRequest);
mInterstitialAd = new InterstitialAd(this);
mInterstitialAd.setAdUnitId("ca-app-pub-5164171001589422/5381023392");
mInterstitialAd.setAdListener(new AdListener() {
#Override
public void onAdClosed() {
requestNewInterstitial();
}
});
requestNewInterstitial();
CustomList adapter = new
CustomList(MainActivity.this, web, imageId);
list=(ListView)findViewById(R.id.list);
list.setAdapter(adapter);
list.setOnItemClickListener(new AdapterView.OnItemClickListener() {
#Override
public void onItemClick(AdapterView<?> parent, View view,
final int position, long id) {
}
String main = list.getSelectedItem().toString();
//where i need help
});
}
private void requestNewInterstitial() {
AdRequest adRequest = new AdRequest.Builder()
.addTestDevice("5C6759521D465119182182A234FF5CE3")
.build();
mInterstitialAd.loadAd(adRequest);
}
}
If anyone could get me on the right track I would be very appreciative.
I DO NOT want it to apply one specific wallpaper, I want the app to recognize the image that's been clicked and apply that exact one.
you can use this code. you should use image id in
myWallpaperManager.setResource(R.drawable.leaves_preview)
use this code in public void onItemClick(AdapterView<?> parent, View view,final int position, long id)
WallpaperManager myWallpaperManager
= WallpaperManager.getInstance(getApplicationContext());
try {
myWallpaperManager.setResource(R.drawable.leaves_preview);
} catch (IOException e) {
// TODO Auto-generated catch block
e.printStackTrace();
}
Need to set permission in Manifest:
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.SET_WALLPAPER"/>
You need set the permission into your AndroidManifest.xml file.
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.SET_WALLPAPER" />
You can set the background with following :
#RequiresPermission(Manifest.permission.SET_WALLPAPER)
private void setWallpaper(int resId) {
WallpaperManager myWallpaperManager = WallpaperManager.getInstance(getApplicationContext());
try {
myWallpaperManager.setResource(resId);
} catch (Exception e) {
e.printStackTrace();
}
}
#Override
public void onRequestPermissionsResult(int requestCode,
#NonNull String[] permissions,
#NonNull int[] grantResults) {
if (requestCode == PERMISSION_SET_WALLPAPER) {
if (grantResults[0] == PackageManager.PERMISSION_GRANTED) {
btn.performClick();
} else {
Toast.makeText(getApplicationContext(), "Require permission to set Wallpaper. " +
"Please Allow.", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();
}
}
}
add following code into ListView.setOnItemClickListener() as below :
list.setOnItemClickListener(new AdapterView.OnItemClickListener() {
#Override
public void onItemClick(AdapterView<?> parent, View view,
final int position, long id) {
if (ContextCompat.checkSelfPermission(MainActivity.this,
Manifest.permission.SET_WALLPAPER) != PackageManager.PERMISSION_GRANTED) {
ActivityCompat.requestPermissions(MainActivity.this,
new String[]{Manifest.permission.SET_WALLPAPER},
PERMISSION_SET_WALLPAPER);
} else {
setWallpaper(R.drawable.splash_bg);
}
}
});
