Selenium Assert questions - Java - java

How are you?
I'm starting with selenium, and I'm trying hard to deal with "AssertTrue (boolean condition)", but there's something wrong.
I need the Junit gets green(ok) if I access successfully one page, and I want it get red(nok) if it's not possible to access.
But all I got is Green, every single time!
For example:
If I access the payment page it's ok (I assert that there's a buy button to be sure is the payment page)
If I try to access without being logged then the system displays an error message (If I do not find that buy button I won't be in the payment page)
So here's what I'm trying to do in the end of my public boolean method:
if(buybutton.isDisplayed()){
return true;
} else {
return false;
}
So in my test class I'm trying to assert:
Shoes is what I'm buying, and the Shoeslink.com is where I can find it. I put this two variables there because there's an IF - if the user wants to buy shoes selenium will expect some elements, if is a shirt selenium will expect others. But I guess it doesn't matter, because the assert is defined by the code I put above, right? And below is the assertcode I'm talking about:
assertTrue(buy.AccessProduct("**Shoes**", "**Shoeslink.com**"));
Well, if you guys have another logic or way to do it, that's all I need by now: A successfull test if I find an element or an error test if I don't.
Thank you!

I think you wrongly wrote parameters of assertTrue:
assertTrue("Error Message in case of false", buy.AccessProduct("**Shoes**", "**Shoeslink.com**"));

What command do I use to fix this problem?

My main goal is to create a program that can automate an android app to do everything you would with your fingers.
I wrote this line of code so that if that switch is turned ON, the code will switch it OFF.
driver.findElement(By.id("com.offerup:id/shipping_checkbox")).click();
But when I run my code again, that switch is now OFF by default.
I need a command that leaves the switch alone if it is already OFF.
Does anyone know what command to use?
You need to check whether the switch is ON or not. You could achieve this using the following code:
if(driver.findElement(By.id("com.offerup:id/shipping_checkbox")).isSelected()){
driver.findElement(By.id("com.offerup:id/shipping_checkbox")).click();
}
Updated:
As mentioned by Muzammil, isSelected() is not working as expected. Alternatively, you could use the checked attribute:
MobileElement shippingCheckbox= driver.findElement(By.id("com.offerup:id/shipping_checkbox"));
if(shippingCheckbox.getAttribute("checked").equalsIgnoreCase("true")){
shippingCheckbox.click();
}
There are 2 ways to check slider is on or off.
This is Node details of Slider.
Option-1: By using text
Here we will click only if slider is On.
MobileElement sliderElement=driver.findElement(By.id("com.offerup:id/shipping_checkbox"));
String sliderStatus = sliderElement.getText();
if (sliderStatus.equalsIgnoreCase("On")) {
sliderElement.click();
}
Option-2: By using Attribute
Here we will click only if slider is On.
MobileElement sliderElement=driver.findElement(By.id("com.offerup:id/shipping_checkbox"));
String sliderStatus=sliderElement.getAttribute("checked");
if (sliderStatus.equalsIgnoreCase("true")) {
sliderElement.click();
}
}
Edit: I made a mistake in reading this, and missed that it was an Android app, so Javascript is likely unavailable. This comment will only help someone with the same issue on web browser testing, or any situation where Javascript can be executed on the application.
Additional possibility for checking. Not that it is superior to other options.
using OpenQA.Selenium.Support.Extensions;
string selector = "com.offerup:id/shipping_checkbox";
if(driver.ExecuteJavascript<bool>($"return document.getElementById('{selector}').checked")) {
driver.findElement(By.id($"{selector}")).click();
}

Tapestry5 Ajaxformloop limit number of rows

I am trying to limit the number of rows that a user can add in an ajaxformloop.
Short example:
For example, the loop found in the tapestry 5 documentation here: http://tapestry.apache.org/5.3/apidocs/org/apache/tapestry5/corelib/components/AjaxFormLoop.html
If for example I would only like the user to be able to enter 3 phone numbers, how can that be done?
What I have tried:
1) I tried returning null from the onAddRow event, this causes an exception and the exception report page to display - these events shouldn't return null I don't think.
2) I tried adding my own add row button like this:
<p:addRow>
<t:addrowlink>Add another</t:addrowlink>
</p:addRow>
And then putting a t:if around it, like this:
<t:if test="canAddMorePhones()">
<p:addRow>
<t:addrowlink>Add another</t:addrowlink>
</p:addRow>
</t:if>
In this case, the "add another" reverts to the default "Add row" button and my add row link doesn't show.
3)I tried moving that t:if inside the , this had similar results.
--------------------------
I am sure that this is a fairly common aim, is there any simple way to do it? Perhaps someone can provide an example, and if possible this can help to go in the documentation as i'm sure i'm not going to be the only one trying to do this.
Note: I did also ask on the T5 users mailing list and had one answer but I can't seem to get it working after the response from Lance (Which I am sure is probably correct, but i'm not sure how to use the AjaxResponseRenderer as per my reply last week, this is probably due to my own technical limitations or understanding of some parts of T5).
http://apache-tapestry-mailing-list-archives.1045711.n5.nabble.com/Ajaxformloop-add-row-link-max-size-tt5730840.html
I also tried using ajaxResponseRenderer.addRender as you did in your mailing list code, but it doesn't work because it seems that Tapestry has some problems dealing with updating a component that's busy updating another component. However, AjaxResponseRenderer also supports execution of JavaScript. Taking this approach on the AjaxFormLoop example in the docs, specify the addrowlink as follows:
<p:addrow>
<t:if test="canAddMorePhones()">
<t:addrowlink id="addRowLink" t:id="addRowLink">Add another</t:addrowlink>
</t:if>
</p:addrow>
Then add the following code right before return phone; in onAddRowFromPhones():
ajaxResponseRenderer.addCallback(new JavaScriptCallback() {
public void run(JavaScriptSupport javascriptSupport) {
if (!canAddMorePhones()) {
javascriptSupport.addScript("document.getElementById('addRowLink').style.display = 'none';");
}
}
});
This example was tested successfully in Tapestry 5.3.7.

Getting a RuntimeException : Datasource user is null ? when updating User model in Play Framework 2.2.1

I am currently trying to enhance the To-Do List tutorial from Play framework's website. I've added a login form, (and of course a User class acting as a model), and it works perfectly well. I also made a small "dashboard" in which the logged user is able to change his password and his email address. But when I submit the form, I get a "Datasource user is null ?" error (RuntimeException).
The whole problem came when I wanted to restrict the edition possibilities (I first used a whole User form, which is quite over the top (User do not need to edit their ID). So I made a small inner class in my Application file called UpdateUser which gathers the required informations, just as I did for the login system.
Searching this error gave me many results but people saw their problem fixed by uncommenting the ebean.default line in the conf file, which I already did.
Here is the method I used to update user's informations :
Firstly, I made a small class in my Application to hold the form (exactly like I did for the login thing).
Then I made a update function as found here in my user class :
public static String update(String id, User newuser) {
newuser.update(id);
return("Your profile has been updated");
}
which returns the String that will be in my flash and which is according to my compiler the problem function.
This function is called in my Application like this :
public static Result updateUser(String id)
{
Form<UpdateUser> filledForm = updateUserForm.bindFromRequest();
System.out.println("Updated User : "+filledForm.get().id);
if(filledForm.hasErrors())
{
flash("success","Error while updating");
}else{
User user = new User(filledForm.get().id, filledForm.get().email, User.find.byId(filledForm.get().id).name, User.find.byId(filledForm.get().id).surname, filledForm.get().password);
flash("success", User.update(id,user));
}
return redirect(routes.Application.dashboard());
}
I tracked the data in the Form and it is not null (I mean I can get everything from the form). But I wonder if I have to create another ebean or if it's my function which is wrong. I also wonder if it's not my User creation that fail. Or maybe I should take the updateUser function and put it in my inner UpdateUser class ?
I have to admit that I worked on that all of yesterday (and probably today too), and I can't find anything on the internet except the ebean.default thing.
------EDIT
I continued to search, so here's what I tried :
1) Getting the form result into an instance of UpdateUser in order to use it
2) Use this instance instead of getting the data from the form
But it failed too. What's really weird is that I've added a toString() method for User class, and calling it on the user I want to insert (as an update) gives me the full stuff. I think it must be a configuration problem, but I can't see it.
Another thing : when I come to the error page and when I try to come back to the application by modifying the URL, I am disconnected. Is it my ebean that closes himself ?
Last edit for the day, I'm getting tired of this. I tried to delay the action (i.e. making it happen after the user has logged out), the new data are correctly saved but I still get the error when calling the update function.
Alright, I finally found it, but totally by chance.
I just had to write this :
public static String update(String id, User user) {
user.update((Object)id);
return ("Your profile has been updated");
}
Because for some reason that I don't really understand, The id String needs to be cast to Object. The rest of the code was correct. But apparently, when using update() on this particular case (is it because my id is a String or because I get the informations from another class before using it as my Model), the parameter which is supposed to be a String (even in the documentation) HAS to be cast.
That's it.

what is the best way to display website visitors a one time welcome message?

I've got a website, and I want to add a welcoming message which hovers on a certain part of the page which only loads for the visitor for the first time they login, and won't again(presumably cookies used). And says something like "adjust your settings here.."
I don't want it to be an external popup but something that loads on the page in a certain area, defined by me (PX-pixle reference)
What would be the best coding language to do it in, oes anyone have any examples of this, or any site based generators to make it on?
thanks
Create one more field in database with lastlogin.
When user is created then make lastlogin field with special.
When user signs the next time from Login Page, update the field the lastlogin value to regular
//query to get value of lastlogin
//add css to elements you want to hover
<element class="<?php if($last-login == 'sepcial') { echo 'sepcialcss'; } else {echo 'regularcss'; }">
Done in PHP
As you added the tag, php would do this, actually any language will do.
Generally you have two ways to do this.
Do it on your server.
Do it on client's computer.
for the first way, you check the cookies and generate the page you want.
for the second way, you need to arrange the page the visitors see with java script.
way 1 recommended, coz it loads less bits. LOL
Update:
your server supports php right? the page, say it index.php, has a special area which is different when the visitors login the first time, right?
<?php
if (firstLogin()){
genSpecial();
}
else{
genRegular();
}
?>
in the funcition firstLogin(), you shall read the cookies and determine.
in the other two functions, just gen two different part, i.e. some html source code.
to your question, if you need to load some image, do it in genSpecial(). and if you choose the first way, js is not used to gen the special area, it's used only if in the special area, there needs some js.
It is possible through javascript. Once the user is shown the settings, store the result in a cookie valid for as long as you want. The next time the user logs in, verify if the cookie is set and then proceed.
Sample code to create cookies:
function setCookie(c_name,value,exdays)
{
var exdate=new Date();
exdate.setDate(exdate.getDate() + exdays);
var c_value=escape(value) + ((exdays==null) ? "" : "; expires="+exdate.toUTCString());
document.cookie=c_name + "=" + c_value;
}
Refer this for more details on how to create and use cookies

Handling self-refreshing pages from selenium

I have been running into intermittent errors with some java selenium-rc tests which I think are related to a page which has an ajax poll and automatically refreshes when some condition is reached on the server. In this scenario, I have no way of asking selenium to wait for the page to load, and so I run into a bunch of random "Couldn't access document.body" errors.
So, is there some way I can cause selenium to gracefully handle this situation? If not, is there some way I could detect whether the user is selenium from the page's javascript, and disable the automatic refresh?
If it helps at all, the javascript code in the page looks something like...
var ajax = new Ajax(url, {
update: state,
method: 'get',
onComplete: function(message) {
if (some_condition) {
window.location.replace(unescape(window.location));
}
}
});
One solution might be to always use a waitForCondition using isElementPresent before attempting to interact with the application under test. You could put the following method in a superclass to keep your tests more readable. Alternatively you could create helper methods for common Selenium commands that perform this wait.
/** Waits for an element to be present */
public static void waitForElementToBePresent(String locator) {
session().waitForCondition("var value = selenium.isElementPresent('" + locator.replace("'", "\\'") + "'); value == true", "60000");
}
You may also want to wait for the element to be visible, as waiting for it to just be present isn't always enough (imagine a textbox that is always present but hidden until a certain condition). You can combine this with the above method:
/** Waits for an element to be visible */
public static void waitForElementToBeVisible(String locator) {
waitForElementToBePresent(locator);
session().waitForCondition("var value = selenium.isVisible('" + locator.replace("'", "\\'") + "'); value == true", TIMEOUT);
}
Incidentally, the WebDriver (Selenium 2) team are working on having implicit waits, specifically to address AJAX issues where elements are not present immediately.
My solution was to disable the refresh in javascript by wrapping it in something like the following...
var isSeleniumActive = parent.seleniumAlert;
if (isSeleniumActive) {
alert("Selenium");
} else {
alert("Not selenium");
}
I'm not sure if the seleniumAlert function here is likely to sick around forever, so be aware if you're taking this that you may be relying on internal selenium implementation details of selenium.
There i was facing the same problem and i use a single line of code and it helps.
i was getting the error about the page is getting auto refresh
plus this warning:
-1490472087141 Marionette WARN Using deprecated data structure for setting timeouts
all i use is
Thread.sleep(2000)
and it worked for me.
I think that you can pause, or use a click and wait. There are a few good articles on the google. Good luck.
Edit for your comment:
How about the waitFor command?
