I am building a web service with spring with tomcat.
I am creating a WSSpringServlet to listen to the requests but every time a class cast exception rises saying:
com.sun.xml.ws.transport.http.servlet.WSSpringServlet cannot be cast to javax.servlet.Servlet
here is the web.xml
<web-app id="WebApp_ID" version="2.4"
xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/j2ee"

Edit: I am running tomcat 8 I will try with tomcat7 and see what will happen.
Edit2: I am using the command "mvn tomcat:run" so I tried adding a servlet of my own that inherits HttpServlet class the same error occurs saying java.lang.ClassCastException: com.dev.backend.services.Hi cannot be cast to javax.servlet.Servlet
This means I think that something is wrong with the tomcat or that command.
can anyone help, please?

Please someone help with the error.
I am trying to open index.html from eclipse. But I got this error:
javax.servlet.ServletException: Resource configuration class
com.sensorhound.things.rest.ThingsApplication could not be loaded.
I am using java EE framework.
Previously, I am writing my front-end code using a Node.js fake server. Then I create a maven project in eclipse to write my back-end code. And I didn't move my front-end code to this project until I finish writing up the back-end code.
What I did to test my front-end code before was start up my wildfly server and Cassandra database, then I will do a mvn wildfly:deploy under my back-end project directory. Then I will go to the front-end code folder and open the index.html in browser. It works fine.
Now I need to wrap up my project so I copy my front-end code to
src/main/webapps
directory, and update my project.
But when I try to open the index.html from eclipse. It give me this error.

Thanks!
I solve this by remove servlet related tags in web.xml. Those are the code my co-workers added when using jetty server.
I'm using mybatis-spring in a concept test. All is working with my database when I'm running the test but when use the code in a service I get a java.lang.NullPointerException
My DaoTest:
#RunWith(SpringJUnit4ClassRunner.class)
#ContextConfiguration(locations="/spring-config.xml")
public class DaoTest {
#Autowired
private IOrdenMgmtDao ordenDao;
#Test
public void testDAO(){
Assert.assertNotNull(ordenDao);
Integer countForOrden = ordenDao.getCountByState("NEW");
Assert.assertEquals(new Integer(3), countForOrden);
List<OrdenDetailStateResult> ordenDetail = ordenDao.getOrderDetail("NEW");
Assert.assertNotNull(ordenDetail);
for (OrdenDetailStateResult ordenDetailStateResult : ordenDetail) {
System.out.println(ordenDetailStateResult.getOrden_id() + " "
+ ordenDetailStateResult.getComprador_email() + " "
+ ordenDetailStateResult.getStatus());
}
}
}
The test results are ok:
...
13:48:29.027 [main] DEBUG o.a.p.b.i.I.getOrderDetail - <== Total: 3
5835561 quintero#mail.co NEW
5835562 quintero#mail.co NEW
5835761 andrmas#mail.com NEW
...
But when I try to use with a rest service: http://localhost:8080/batisrest/webapi/orders/NEW, I get:
java.lang.NullPointerException
org.agonzalez.batisrest.service.OrderService.getCountByState(OrderService.java:22)
I access it through the OrderResource class:
#Path("/orders")
#Consumes(MediaType.APPLICATION_JSON)
#Produces(MediaType.APPLICATION_JSON)
public class OrderResource {
#Autowired
private OrderService orderService;
#GET
#Path("/{orderStatus}")
public String getOrdersByStatus(#PathParam("orderStatus") String orderStatus){
return Integer.toString(orderService.getCountByState(orderStatus));
}
}
My OrderService class:
#ContextConfiguration(locations="/spring-config.xml")
public class OrderService {
#Autowired
private IOrdenMgmtDao ordenDao;
public int getCountByState(String orderStatus){
Integer countForOrden = ordenDao.getCountByState(orderStatus);
return countForOrden;
}
}
The IOrdenMgmtDao that is connected with mybatis:
public interface IOrdenMgmtDao {
public Integer getCountByState(
#Param("ordenStatus") final String ordenStatus);
}
I think the main problem is from the configuration but I can't see it. There are my spring-config.xml:

As I said, the test are working connected with my database.
You need to autowire your orderService in your OrderResource class.
Change
OrderService orderService = new OrderService();
TO:
#Autowired
private OrderService orderService;
Avoid creating object with new operator in Spring applications. Since you are creating your oderService with new operator it won't have the dependency it needed for the dao object.
There was a problem with the compatibility of the dependencies than couldn't be seen from eclipse. Here is final pom.xml I'm using:

I think you have to add the following dependencies in your class path. If you are using maven like tool of dependencies managment you have to add this:
<dependencies>
....
<dependency>
<groupId>org.springframework</groupId>
<artifactId>spring-webmvc</artifactId>
<version>yourSPringVersion</version>
</dependency>
<dependency>
<groupId>org.springframework</groupId>
<artifactId>spring-web</artifactId>
<version>yourSPringVersion</version>
</dependency>
....
</dependencies>
For some others information about these modules you can read some information Here
I'm creating a REST API based on Jersey + Spring + Hibernate.
Everything works nicely when deployed.
I tried to add some integrations test using RestAssured which i want to be started from an embedded Jetty (mandatory spec) however it always gives this error (see below for a detailed stacktrace):
20-04-2013 | 19:14:43 | WARN | (Slf4jLog.java:76) | failed jersey-servlet: java.lang.IncompatibleClassChangeError: Implementing class
20-04-2013 | 19:14:43 | WARN | (Slf4jLog.java:76) | failed org.mortbay.jetty.webapp.WebAppContext#192ffd75{/test-core,src/main/webapp}: java.lang.IncompatibleClassChangeError: Implementing class
20-04-2013 | 19:14:43 | ERROR | (Slf4jLog.java:87) | Error starting handlers
As the error says it is probably something to do with my SpringServlet, however i can't seem to resolve this problem.

And finally the method of the Class (Class WithJetty that gets extended in a JUnit test) that will start my jetty server:
#BeforeClass
public static void startJetty() throws Exception {
server = new Server(8070);
WebAppContext context = new WebAppContext();
context.setDescriptor("src/main/webapp/WEB-INF/web.xml");
context.setWar("src/main/webapp");
context.setParentLoaderPriority(true);
context.setContextPath("/testing-core");
server.setHandler(context);
server.setStopAtShutdown(true);
server.start();
}
The actuall testcase is very basic:
public class UserResourceTest extends WithJetty {
#Test
public void test() throws Exception {
Assert.assertEquals(200, given().log().all().get(RSConstants.PATH_UNSECURED + "/test").getStatusCode());
}
}

I have scoured the internet and stackoverflow for possible solutions, but all of them i found had something to do with GAE (which i am not using)
Thanks alot for the help!
I faced the same problem when tried to upgrade rest-assured from 1.7.2 to 1.8.0 or newer. So I suggest downgrading to 1.7.2 as a workaround until better solution is provided.
