Java 2D Game NullPointerException [duplicate] - java

I am trying to create a 2D game in Java where a user is prompted for a row width and column length. A 'world' object is created that looks like this when printed (where P is the player's character):

The user can then enter up, down, left, right or exit which should move the P around and do nothing if the move would move the character off the map. My issue is after I enter the width and length, I get the following error:

at World.displayWorld(Driver.java:90)
at Driver.main(Driver.java:28)
I believe this means that Java is seeing worldDimensions.length as empty/null?? I thought I was assigning a value to it when the world object is created.. Any guidance is much appreciated!

You're shadowing worldDimensions inside of your constructor. The local declaration does not give you the same field as previously declared.
Simply remove the declaration and you'll be alright (at least for that error):
worldDimensions = new char[userHeight][userWidth];

You're overwriting your class variable worldDimensions. Your World constructor should look like the following

Passing Values from Constructor to a Method

My project requires me to make a game where two space ships move around on a game board. I'm not too sure on how to get my X and Y position values from my constructors to my method in my main program.
I got a bit of help from my professor and he said to pass the X and Y values into my print board method I tried to use ship1.XPos, ship1.YPos, ship2.XPos, ship2.YPos in my print board declaration but I got an error about VariableDeclaratiorId.

I expect there to be the words Ship1 and Ship2 on any space on my game board that is declared as 6x22.
When you define a method, you need to define the arguments it accepts using their types and names that the method will use to refer to those arguments. For example, your code:
public static void printBoard(String[][] f, ship1.XPos, ship1.YPos, ship2.XPos, ship2.YPos)
should actually be written like so:
public static void printBoard(String[][] f, int ship1Xpos, int ship1Ypos, int ship2Xpos, int ship2Ypos)
The reason your code doesn't work is because you're trying to define the method using the values you want to pass into it (e.g., ship1.XPos). When you want to call the method, then you can give it the values that you want it to use, like so:
printBoard(f, ship1.XPos, ship1.YPos, ship2.XPos, ship2.YPos);
Keep in mind that you also have the following line of code which won't work because you're not passing a value for all of the arguments it expects:
printBoard(f);

Some of this was mentioned in the comments, but these conditions fundamentally don't make sense:

return 0;
For example, what do you think that if (gameboard [0][0] == && CROSS) [0][1] is supposed to do? What exactly is " "() supposed to be? And what do you think that == && does? It's difficult to know exactly what you were actually trying to achieve here.
Also, consider gameboard [0][-1]. There are two problems here. First, you do realize that -1 isn't actually a valid array index in Java, right? (That's allowable in Python, but not Java). Also, gameboard [0][-1] is an integer, not a bool, so && gameboard [0][-1] doesn't make sense. If you have something like A && B, both A and B must evaluate to some kind of boolean value (i.e. true or false).
Also, I'd encourage you not to do indentation like you have here. I'd recommend putting each "else if" on its own line.

Text file load error and array error on mouse island application

I have a problem, I am not looking for answers to my problem I would like some help finding why my array even though specified in main unders switch: case1, case2, case3. I used a for loops with an array that stops at the 5th iteration. However when I run the program it only runs once, am I specifying correctly to make it run 5 times or should it be declared another way? thanks in advance. I should also include there are no errors reported by eclipse at this time until it is ran and only after the first input.

Java help! implementing a 2d array of a certain object, the object has multiple private data types and objects

I'm trying to make a 2d array of an object in java. This object in java has several private variables and methods in it, but won't work. Can someone tell me why and is there a way I can fix this?
This is the exeception I keep getting for each line of code where I try to initialize and iterate through my 2d object.

Creating array doesn't mean it will be automatically filled with new instances of your class. There are many reasons for that, like
which constructor should be used
what data should be passed to this constructor.
This kind of decisions shouldn't be made by compiler, but by programmer, so you need to invoke constructor explicitly.
After creating array iterate over it and fill it with new instances of your class.

yourArray[i][j] = new ...//here you should use constructor
AClass[][] obj = new AClass[50][50];
is not enough, you have to create instances of them like
obj[i][j] = new AClass(...);

must be after
woah[wumpusR][wumpusC] = new WumpusWorldObject();

You probably want to get the Cell from the Button data and use the i,j coordinates to call getElement().
Note: A couple of comments on your Table class. The default constructor doesn't make sense if you already know the initial size of the table. If that is the case, make columns, rows and wincells final so they cannot be modified during the game. Also, check that the coordinates provided in getElement() are within the array bounds:

The e.x and e.y of the SelectionEvent e are the coordinate of the click of the mouse, and not the grid. You should get the Cell from the Button data, and then use it for your game move.
