I am having an error that I can't seem to find the answer to how to fix online. When I am running my code I am getting this error here.

The thing is that I know where the issue is coming from. It's from my Behave dependency in the pom file. I tested it by commenting it out and it then runs. Here is my pom file so you can look at it.

The reason for your issue is that JBehave as a dependency on FreeMarker (see deps on mvnrepository.com) which causes Spring Boots auto configuration to kick in and configure FreeMarker as your template engine. Basically you do have different options to get rid of this issue
Do what the error states and add spring.freemarker.checkTemplateLocation=false to your application.yml or application.properties to suppress the check for templates location. This still leaves you with the template engine configured
Disable Autoconfiguration for FreeMarker by adding the exclude option to your #SpringBootApplication like this #SpringBootApplication(exclude={FreeMarkerAutoconfiguration.class})
Create the templates folder as expected in resources.
Exclude the transient dependency on your JBehave dependency in your pom.xml as described in the documentation of Maven.
Which of those is the right decision depends on your demand and the application, e.g. if you do not need JBehave's HTML or Mail reporting functionality which uses FreeMarker it is most likely safe to go for option 4, in all other cases I personally would use option 2.
Side notes
You should always scope your dependencies properly, e.g. all of your deps for testing should correctly have a <scope>test</scope> setting as it is the case for the spring-boot-starter-test. That helps to keep the final artifact small.
I don't see a reason for what you'd need the scala dependency in your setup.
logback is the default logging framework in Spring Boot and does not have to be defined. I'm actually also not 100% sure if it is a really good idea to have two logging libs (log4j and logback) in your setup.
Is there a special reason why you not used spring-social-facebook but rather restfb instead? Does not look consistent to me.
Additionally I'm wondering about having spring-data-jpa dependency in as well as the plain spring-boot-starter-jdbc?
In general you defined a lot of your dependency explicitly whereas they are anyhow provided as a transient dependency of other requirements, e.g. hibernate would be automatically brought in by spring-data-jpa.
I personally would go for version 1.3.2 of spring-boot in your parent relationship definition. It will bring in a lot of new functionalities and should be really non-breaking.

Looking around at similar posts for this error, it seems that the issue comes from having incompatible versions of the same dependency. I have one project that calls a class from another, thus I have two separate pom.xml's, but both have the same version of the jackson dependency so I'm not sure what is causing this error. Here are my two pom.xml's:

When running each class separately, they both compile and run as intended, but when I call b.foo() from class a, I get the error in the title. Any ideas what is happening?
I poked around deeper through some of the dependencies and found that one was using a lower version of Jackson that you couldn't see on the surface. So if you have this problem and you're using Eclipse, view your pom.XML through the Dependencies Hierarchy view and you should be able to see where the incompatibility comes from.
You can maintain the parent module and other child modules integration using maven, and add the dependency in parent module so that should be consider by both child module.
I was trying to run a JAR file for the project, but the following error shows up :
Caused by: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: org.springframework.boot.autoconfigure.logging.AutoConfigurationReportLoggingInitializer
I tried to look for the class manually within my libraries, but the class was not present. It seems the specific class is not present in the current version of spring-boot-starter-web. Below is the POM for the project
<dependency>
<groupId>junit</groupId>
<artifactId>junit</artifactId>
<version>4.11</version>
<scope>test</scope>
</dependency>
<!-- https://mvnrepository.com/artifact/org.springframework.boot/spring-boot-starter-parent -->
<dependency>
<groupId>org.springframework.boot</groupId>
<artifactId>spring-boot-starter-web</artifactId>
<version>2.1.3.RELEASE</version>
</dependency>

<scope>provided</scope>
</dependency>
<dependency>
<groupId>org.apache.commons</groupId>
<artifactId>commons-dbcp2</artifactId>
<version>2.1.1</version>
</dependency>
I added my project folder resources/META-INFO/spring.factories. After that, I got the same error above. I remove the folder and my project starts well!
Try adding the following dependency :
<dependency>
<groupId>org.springframework.boot</groupId>
<artifactId>spring-boot-starter</artifactId>
<version>2.1.3.RELEASE</version>
</dependency>
The dependency spring-boot-starter includes the dependencies for logging spring-boot-starter-logging, which has the class org.springframework.boot.autoconfigure.logging.AutoConfigurationReportLoggingInitializer
#RunWith(SpringRunner.class)
#SpringBootTest(webEnvironment = WebEnvironment.RANDOM_PORT)
#Import({ JerseyConfig.class })
public class BenchApplicationTest {
#Autowired
private TestRestTemplate restTemplate;
#Test
public void contextLoads() {
ResponseEntity<String> entity = this.restTemplate.getForEntity("/bench/healthcheck", String.class);
assertThat(entity.getStatusCode()).isEqualTo(HttpStatus.OK);
}
}
My application executes perfectly and i am able to test the api using Postman. But when i try the above method to execute the test case to test the API, it gives the following error.
org.springframework.beans.factory.BeanCreationException: Error creating bean with name 'testRestTemplate': Initialization of bean failed; nested exception is java.lang.NoSuchFieldError: INSTANCE

I have tried to check the this error and the almost all of them suggest (like this link and link,) that there are multiple version of a jars(http-client/http-core) in my application. I have checked and i did not find multiple version of SSLConnectionSocketFactory in my application. If at all there are conflicting jars, how can i know which are conflicting. I do not manually add the jar, its a maven project. I am stuck with this problem for the last 1 week and I am now at my wits end.

Quick answer
Quick check of your pom.xml shows that particular dependency org.owasp.esapi:esapi pulls old 3.1 version of httpclient in. Try adding exclusion section to this dependency as described below. If this does not help, work through dependency tree accordingly
Full answer
Run the following command under your project root folder
mvn dependency:tree -Dincludes=commons-httpclient
That will print your project's maven dependency tree with all pulled transitive dependencies with artifact id commons-httpclient, for example:
[INFO] your:project:jar:1.0-SNAPSHOT
[INFO] \- org.owasp.esapi:esapi:jar:2.1.0:compile
[INFO] \- org.owasp.antisamy:antisamy:jar:1.4.3:compile
[INFO] \- commons-httpclient:commons-httpclient:jar:3.1:compile
Than you could determine what is the source of wrong version of httpclient coming in (for our example let it be org.owasp.esapi:esapi) and then you can exclude that transitive dependency implicitly by amending your pom.xml:
<dependency>
<groupId>org.owasp.esapi</groupId>
<artifactId>esapi</artifactId>
<version>2.1.0</version>
<!-- change starts here -->
<exclusions>
<exclusion>
<groupId>commons-httpclient</groupId>
<artifactId>commons-httpclient</artifactId>
</exclusion>
</exclusions>
<!-- change ends here -->
</dependency>
Note, that you may require to filter dependency tree using wildcards like
mvn dependency:tree -Dincludes=*http*
or even work through plain tree output calling mvn dependency:tree without params
And finally you can end up with explicit adding required dependency to your pom.xml having wrong versions found and excluded as decried above:
<dependency>
<groupId>org.apache.httpcomponents</groupId>
<artifactId>httpclient</artifactId>
<version>4.5.2</version>
</dependency>
Update
As problem is not resolved by above. Handy code piece to determine all the files being loaded from classpath:
ClassLoader cl = ClassLoader.getSystemClassLoader();
URL[] urls = ((URLClassLoader)cl).getURLs();
for(URL url: urls){
System.out.println(url.getFile());
}
Can you put it into your contextLoads() right before restTemplate call and check/share the console output then?
I'm writing a blogging application in Java that is using Spring MVC and Spring Security. I've gotten Spring Security configured, but I'm running into an issue where my application cannot resolve any class in the org.springframework.security package. When I try to compile after importing anything from this package, I get the following error:
package org.springframework.security does not exist
Right now I'm trying to implement my own user service details class and I cannot import the UserServiceDetails interface as a result of this.
This is my pom.xml (please excuse the disorganization):

Is there anything obviously wrong with the pom that would result in there being a problem with importing anything in the org.springframework.security package?
I appreciate anyone's help!
Spring Security 3.2.0 relies on Spring Core 3.2.6. You're currently running core version 3.2.5.
You can check other dependencies for Spring Security here
Can someone show me how to make other adjustments so that I can successfully upgrade to the new hibernate version in my eclipse maven project? I changed the Hibernate version to 4.2.6.Final by changing the following in my pom.xml:
<dependency>
<groupId>org.hibernate</groupId>
<artifactId>hibernate-entitymanager</artifactId>
<version>4.2.6.Final</version>
</dependency>
However, now the Markers tab in the eclipse project contains the following error listings:
Description Resource Path Location Type
Unknown tag (form:label). documents.jsp /DocumentManager/src/main/webapp/WEB-INF/jsp line 21 JSP Problem
Unknown tag (form:input). documents.jsp /DocumentManager/src/main/webapp/WEB-INF/jsp line 18 JSP Problem

The project cannot be built until build path errors are resolved DocumentManager Unknown Java Problem
The container 'Maven Dependencies' references non existing library 'D:\mypath\.m2\repository\javax\servlet\servlet-api\2.5\servlet-api-2.5.jar' DocumentManager Build path Build Path Problem
I checked and 'D:\mypath.m2\repository\javax\servlet\servlet-api\2.5\servlet-api-2.5.jar' is indeed present in my computer. I also forced an additional maven update just to be safe, and it produces the same list in the Markers tab.

EDIT/ANSWER:
The solution involved changing the jstl tag and upgrading hibernate as follows:
<dependency>
<groupId>jstl</groupId>
<artifactId>jstl</artifactId>
<version>1.1.2</version>
</dependency>
<dependency>
<groupId>taglibs</groupId>
<artifactId>standard</artifactId>
<version>1.1.2</version>
</dependency>
<dependency>
<groupId>org.hibernate</groupId>
<artifactId>hibernate-entitymanager</artifactId>
<version>4.2.6.Final</version>
</dependency>
Note that javax.servlet was replaced with jstl, as per the answerer's suggestion in a comment below. However, the version number 1.1.2 is also the same for both the jstl and the taglibs nodes.
I am marking an accepted answer below because the answerer wrote something close to this in a comment below his answer, even though the code in his answer itself was not ultimately the solution.
Add servlet-api in pom.xml
<dependency>
<groupId>javax.servlet</groupId>
<artifactId>servlet-api</artifactId>
<version>2.5</version>
<scope>provided</scope>
</dependency>
