error in following tutorial - java

I was following this tutorial and seem to have made a mistake somewhere. I'm not so sure where I went wrong, all I know is its saying it was caused at the part where i make a map

according the the console it says it was caused at the setUpMap(); line in the onResume() method and the setUpMap method. what happens when I try to run the app is an error that causes it to close instantly. also i realize i changed it from setUpMapIfNeeded to SetUpMap because in the tutorial I didnt find any setUpMapIfNeeded() method.

you can either avoid calling setUpMap(); from onResume or check in mMap is not null
private void setUpMap() {
if (mMap != null) {
mMap.addMarker(new MarkerOptions().position(new LatLng(0, 0)).title("Marker"));
}
}
as the name suggests, getMapAsync calls onMapReady in an asynchronous way, and you don't have any assurance that onMapReady was already called before onResume get called

Marker disappearing and title not showing

I am trying to add a marker on my Google maps by long-pressing on the location and displaying the name of the location, however, whenever I long-press the marker appears for a split second and then goes away (disappears).
I understand after the long-press the marker is supposed to stay and then show the title as well, but that is not working.
Please do let me know if anyone is facing any such issue and can help me with it.

You are clearing your map every time your location changes here:
#Override
public void onLocationChanged(Location location) {
centerMapOnLocation(location, "Your Location");
}
That's why your marker disappears right after you add it to the map. If you remove or comment out this line within your centerMapOnLocation method:
mMap.clear();
Then the markers no longer disappear.
Hope this helps!

Location Status Inconsistent Android Studio

I am trying to get the current location of user and show a marker on the MAP. Here is my code

}
Now, the issue is that most of the times on I don't get any location, A map is shown without any marker and in the logs "Location Status:Location Not Found" which is set to be shown if location is null.
I tried to rebuild and run again. Now the location is detected on one device but it's showing the same awkward output on other devices. I want this to work every time but it's acting strange as the same code is showing two different behaviors on same device on different times with same settings.
P.S. Location is enabled on devices.
Any kind of help or tip will be appreciated. Thanks!
Try this code coded by me
Some time GPS can't able to locate your location that's why you getting null in object of mLocation
So my suggestion is to get location on bases of NETWORK_PROVIDER and also GPS_PROVIDER

Clicking on Markers on Map

So my issue is I have a kml layer on my maps with several Markers on them. I want to be able to click on a Marker on the map and save the information about this marker in a HashMap if this is possible.
I understand there is the method onMarkerClickListener but I don't quite seem how to actually use this. How to I iterate through the kml layer? or Do I just use the markers on the map?

The above is my code for adding the KML layer.
I don't really understand what you want to do but I think the onMarkerClickListener class is effectively your solution. It's onMarkerClick function will be triggered whenever a marker will be clicked, and, as a parameter, you will get an handle on it, giving you the possibility to save information about it.

When onMapReady() method is call you used map Object without initialization and after you initialize, so then have return null pointer.
mMap = googleMap; //Map initialize by this line
mMap.setMapType(GoogleMap.MAP_TYPE_HYBRID);
//Initialize Google Play Services
if (android.os.Build.VERSION.SDK_INT >= Build.VERSION_CODES.M) {
if (ContextCompat.checkSelfPermission(this,
Manifest.permission.ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION)
== PackageManager.PERMISSION_GRANTED) {
buildGoogleApiClient();
mMap.setMyLocationEnabled(true);
}
}
else {
buildGoogleApiClient();
mMap.setMyLocationEnabled(true);
}
this code put above try catch in onMapReady() method and run your code.

Android mapping activity does not follow user or display location layer [duplicate]

I want google maps to show the location of the user. I tried this code, but it did not work on Android 6.
private GoogleMap map;
LocationManager lm;
LocationListener ll;
Location l;
LatLng pos;
#Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.start_layout);
lm = (LocationManager) this.getSystemService(Context.LOCATION_SERVICE);
ll = new LocationListener() {
#Override
public void onLocationChanged(Location location) {
l = (Location) location;
}
#Override
public void onStatusChanged(String provider, int status, Bundle extras) {}
#Override
public void onProviderEnabled(String provider) {}
#Override
public void onProviderDisabled(String provider) {}
};
SupportMapFragment mapFragment = (SupportMapFragment) getSupportFragmentManager()
.findFragmentById(R.id.nMap);
mapFragment.getMapAsync(this);
}
#Override
public void onMapReady(GoogleMap googleMap) {
map = googleMap;
if(ContextCompat.checkSelfPermission(this, Manifest.permission.ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION) == PackageManager.PERMISSION_GRANTED) {
lm.requestLocationUpdates(lm.NETWORK_PROVIDER, 0, 0, ll);
}
pos = new LatLng(l.getLatitude(), l.getLongitude());
// Add a marker in Sydney and move the camera
map.setMyLocationEnabled(true);
map.addMarker(new MarkerOptions().position(pos).title("Marker in Sydney"));
map.moveCamera(CameraUpdateFactory.newLatLng(pos));
}
Here are the permissions I've set:
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION" />
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.INTERNET" />
For using FusedLocationProviderClient with Google Play Services 11 and higher:
see here:
How to get current Location in GoogleMap using FusedLocationProviderClient
For using (now deprecated) FusedLocationProviderApi:
If your project uses Google Play Services 10 or lower, using the FusedLocationProviderApi is the optimal choice.
The FusedLocationProviderApi offers less battery drain than the old open source LocationManager API.
Also, if you're already using Google Play Services for Google Maps, there's no reason not to use it.
Here is a full Activity class that places a Marker at the current location, and also moves the camera to the current position.
It also checks for the Location permission at runtime for Android 6 and later (Marshmallow, Nougat, Oreo).
In order to properly handle the Location permission runtime check that is necessary on Android M/Android 6 and later, you need to ensure that the user has granted your app the Location permission before calling mGoogleMap.setMyLocationEnabled(true) and also before requesting location updates.

Result:
Show permission explanation if needed using an AlertDialog (this happens if the user denies a permission request, or grants the permission and then later revokes it in the settings):
Prompt the user for Location permission by calling ActivityCompat.requestPermissions():
Move camera to current location and place Marker when the Location permission is granted:
Sorry but that's just much too much overhead (above), short and quick, if you have the MapFragment, you also have to map, just do the following:
if (ContextCompat.checkSelfPermission(this, Manifest.permission.ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION) == PackageManager.PERMISSION_GRANTED) {
googleMap.setMyLocationEnabled(true)
} else {
// Show rationale and request permission.
}
Code is in Kotlin, hope you don't mind.
have fun
Btw I think this one is a duplicate of: Show Current Location inside Google Map Fragment
Firstly make sure your API Key is valid and add this into your manifest <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION" />
Here's my maps activity.. there might be some redundant information in it since it's from a larger project I created.

There's a lot of methods here that are hard to understand but basically all update the map when it's paused etc. There are also connection timeouts etc. Sorry for just posting this, I tried to fix your code but I couldn't figure out what was wrong.
