Today I downloaded Eclipse Neon. When I ran it for the first time it asked me to select a folder as my workspace. After doing this it throws me an error which redirects me to a log file inside the folder I selected to save my workspace:

Sorry for the long post. Any ideas?
You are starting Eclipse using Java 9. This currently does not work with recent builds of Java 9.
Eclipse bug 493761 describes this problem and is currently scheduled to be fixed in Eclipse 4.6.2 (Neon.2)
Until Eclipse 4.6.2 is available use a Java 8 JDK to run Eclipse.
Update:
To run Eclipse with Java 9 you need to modify the 'eclipse.ini' file in your Eclipse installation and add the line:
--add-modules=ALL-SYSTEM
as a line following the -vmargs line in the file. This adds the Java 9 module containing the missing classes.
Eclipse Oxygen.1a (4.7.1a) due for release on 11 October 2017 will have full Java 9 support.
Also see Configuring Eclipse for Java 9 in the Eclipse wiki.
Made it to work in OSX Sierra by adding the following:
--add-modules=java.se.ee
at the end of eclipse.ini
Works for me using the most recent Java 9 early access build b143 and Neon Release 4.6.0
Just add
--add-modules=java.annotations.common
to the eclipse ini after -vmargs
Adding --add-modules=java.se.ee, after -vmargs in STS.ini or eclipse.ini will solve the launching issue.
-vmargs
--add-modules=java.se.ee
-Dosgi.requiredJavaVersion=1.8
-Xms40m
-Dosgi.module.lock.timeout=10
-Xverify:none
-Dorg.eclipse.swt.browser.IEVersion=10001
-Xmx1200m
refer to the link: https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=493761 for more information
I've just had same issue today, the issue in my case was because I was using jdk 11, good tip about the eclipse.ini file, in my case it was indicating clearly it was expecting to use jdk 8, downloaded that version, replaced the jdk path in the env params and it is working now.

It is used to be bug with the current folder .I have resolved the problem by creating a new folder and move my project there .
I had Eclipse Oxygen running on Oracle's JDK 8 and that worked fine. Today I've updated my Eclipse install to the latest version, and it still worked fine.
Then I installed OpenJDK 11 and JavaFX 11, and uninstalled Oracle's JDK I previously had. Now Eclipse won't start. I paste the last session recorded in the .log file below.
Does Eclipse 2018-12 run on Open JDK 11? How can I do that? The Eclipse web site does not seem to mention Open JDK 11 at all.
Update: looking more closely at the .log file it seems Eclipse is missing JavaFX. I installed JavaFX 11, including creating the environment variable PATH_TO_FX per JavaFX installation instructions. Any ideas of what may be wrong?

By looking more closely at the log file I suspected the e(fx)clipse plugin was causing the problem:
at org.eclipse.fx.osgi.fxloader.FXClassLoader.createModuleLoader(FXClassLoader.java:177)
And indeed, I found this thread on the e(fx)clipse forum with a similar report, and an answer by one of the developers that this was a bug on version 3.3.0 and that they would try to release 3.5.0 as soon as possible which had a fix. However, it seems that has not happened as of today.
So I reverted to JDK 8, uninstalled the e(fx)clipse, and now my Eclipse install works with OpenJDK 11.
To give you guys some context, I have very basic experience with Java, and im using Eclipse on windows 7. Whenever I save a project on Eclipse and exit, the next time I try to launch it, it gives me a message telling me there's been an error and to look at the log. If I either delete my whole workspace, or delete the plug ins folder it launches perfectly, but the next time I exit it won't launch again since the plug ins folder is back.
This is a paste of the first two entries of the log, i have no idea what it means.

I just figured out that if I run eclipse as administrator it works fine.
I'm running Eclipse Luna on a Mac (Yosemite).
Been using Eclipse for a few months now, when I open Eclipse this morning however I get a popup after the splash screen with "An error has occurred, see the log file."
What I've tried:
Ran Eclipse with -clean argument
I have no .snap file in the resources metadata folder to delete
Completely removed my workspace (well, renamed it)
It doesn't get past the splash screen though.
Here's the log file in case it's helpful:

Did you kill the jvm process with the task manager?? If you do, maybe your workspace has been corrupted. You have to make a new workspace. It happened to me several times.
According to this stackoverflow question, they were able to fix a similar problem by switching JDK versions. Have you recently installed a new JDK?
Just installed eclipse 3.8, it gives me a exception everytime i select a workspace.
I tried clearing the metadata directory but still no use.
I am new to eclipse and dont understand much of its configurations.

Goto Eclipse Folder and Try deleting
/configuration/.settings/org.eclipse.ui.ide.prefs
It Will work fine
Go into your Eclipse installation directory and edit the sub file /configuration/.settings/org.eclipse.ui.ide.prefs.
There should be an entry RECENT_WORKSPACES_PROTOCOL=3 set it to 0 (instead of 3). Restart Eclipse, chose your Workspace and start. Eclipse should start correctly again.
