Eclipse Error: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: javax.annotation.PreDestroy cannot be found by org.eclipse.e4.core.di_1.6.1.v20160712-0927

I'm trying to install eclipse on my machine with Jave version 16. While installing I'm getting the below error. Any suggestions to overcome this would be greatly appreciated.

Your system has java16 installed. You're attempting to install an Eclipse version that does not support it - seems to be a problem with Eclipse documentation, they specify "Java 8 or newer", where in reality those builds can't work with java11 or newer.
You can either downgrade Java to version 8, or you can download a newer build of Eclipse that supports java11 and newer (Eclipse 4.17 (2020-09) or later)

Eclipse stopped working after i downloaded a standalone STS

My eclipse oxygen stopped working today after i downloaded an unrelated, standalone version of Spring Tools Suite. When trying to run it, i get the following popup dialog: "Error opening Welcome dialog: Failed to create improved startup dialog, falling back to Eclipse standard dialog. Eclipse is a framework. STS is (from the link) a customized all-in-one Eclipse based distribution that makes application development easy. Your assertion that Eclipse is unrelated to Eclipse is just unfounded. The only solution I know is to point to different workspaces if you really need to have separate Eclipse instances.

I like to use eclipse oxygen for java development. I haven't used this IDE for a about year. I remember really liking it. However, I remember it not being the easiest IDE to install. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

To run Eclipse with Java 9 you need to modify the 'eclipse.ini' file in your Eclipse installation and add the line:
--add-modules=java.se.ee
as a line following the -vmargs line in the file. This adds the Java 9 module containing the missing classes.
You can also use
--add-modules=ALL-SYSTEM

Eclipse Oxygen.1a (4.7.1a) is due to be released on 11 October (2017) with full Java 9 support.

Your eclipse.ini should contain something like:

-Dosgi.requiredJavaVersion=1.8
--add-modules=ALL-SYSTEM

Java 9 has some subtle changes that large programs tend to have problems with. Eclipse has issues both with running under Java 9 and using Java 9 as the Java Runtime Environment in the Workspace.
Until a official version of Eclipse supporting Java 9 comes out (apparently at October 11th), non-power users may have a better experience by downgrading to Java 8.

Omnet++ 5.2 mac installation : Error

I follow all steps of the installation guide and when I try to open the omnet get this error:

I had the same problem(s;) and I think it's due to java.version=9.0.1 which does not work well with Eclipse coming with OMNeT++. My solution was as follows:
Install java8 using brew as described here. I.e.,
brew tap caskroom/versions
brew cask install java8
Update $PATH pointing to java8
export PATH=/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/jdk1.8.0_152.jdk/Contents/Home/bin/:$PATH
After that I didn't get the error documented in ..omnetpp-5.2/samples/.metadata/.log and OMNeT++ IDE did start. Hope this helps...

Now Omnet starts opening, the window to choose the workspace appears and it get me this error:See the log file

I like to use eclipse oxygen for java development. I haven't used this IDE for a about year. I remember really liking it. However, I remember it not being the easiest IDE to install. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

To run Eclipse with Java 9 you need to modify the 'eclipse.ini' file in your Eclipse installation and add the line:
--add-modules=java.se.ee
as a line following the -vmargs line in the file. This adds the Java 9 module containing the missing classes.
You can also use
--add-modules=ALL-SYSTEM

Eclipse Oxygen.1a (4.7.1a) is due to be released on 11 October (2017) with full Java 9 support.

Your eclipse.ini should contain something like:

--add-modules=ALL-SYSTEM

Java 9 has some subtle changes that large programs tend to have problems with. Eclipse has issues both with running under Java 9 and using Java 9 as the Java Runtime Environment in the Workspace.
Until a official version of Eclipse supporting Java 9 comes out (apparently at October 11th), non-power users may have a better experience by downgrading to Java 8.
