spring boot main class, how to specify - java

I am working on a project using spring-boot. I have my own parent .pom file, so I can't use the spring-boot parent pom. When I package the project, the main class is not being included in the MANIFEST.MF, even though I specify it in the plug-in configuration. So when I try to run the jar, java says it can't find the main class.
no main manifest attribute, in processor-interface-1.0.0.jar

I have drilled into the MANIFEST.MF in the .jar file and there is indeed no main-class: line. How do I specify the main class in the pom so that it is included in the MANIFEST.MF?

I have similar setup and the only difference with you is that my spring-boot-maven-plugin execution is tied to repackage phase:
<plugin>
<groupId>org.springframework.boot</groupId>
<artifactId>spring-boot-maven-plugin</artifactId>
<executions>
<execution>
<goals>
<goal>repackage</goal>
</goals>
</execution>
</executions>
<configuration>my main class</mainClass>
</configuration>
</plugin>

This was not enough approach for us to achieve above requirement...(As somehow spring-boot-maven-plugin was not working in our case).
However I had to complete my mvn command by appending spring-boot:repackage and
<properties>
<start-class>fully qualified name of the main class</start-class>
</properties>

But in most of the cases what I observed most of them wont declare any version for spring-boot-starter-data-jpa and spring-boot-starter-web but i am getting these errors I am getting errors for all the dependencies where i had not declared version
So i want to know how to resolve these errors where version has not been declared or any plugins needed to be downloaded. I am executing the code in eclipse.
Normally you don't declare dependency versions when you have defined a dependencyManagement section in your POM where you centralize all of the dependencies used by all of your modules.
Since your POM does not define a dependencyManagement, you will need to provide the version for each dependency. You can check this sample guide project from Spring Boot, where you will notice that they set a parent in the POM:
<parent>
<groupId>org.springframework.boot</groupId>
<artifactId>spring-boot-starter-parent</artifactId>
<version>2.4.2</version>
<relativePath/> <!-- lookup parent from repository -->
</parent>
This parent will cause the POM to inherit a dependencyManagement section containing all of the versions of the spring-boot-starter-xx dependencies.

How to add spring boot actuator to WAR project

I have spring mvc application. I tried to convert it to spring boot by doing following steps.
Adding spring-boot-starter-parent parent pom
Adding relevant spring-boot-starter dependncy
Removing spring-mvc and other dependency.
Removed AbstractAnnotationConfigDispatcherServletInitializer class.
Added #ComponentScan, #EnableAutoConfiguration to root config class.
This was successful and I could see that application was working but when I added spring-boot-starter-actuator dependency and run mvn jetty:run . http://localhost:8080//actuator returns 404 response.
Can someone please tell me how I can add actuator in this case ?

Maven - How to exclude dependencies from generated JAR

I have 3 projects that looks like this:
The problem is that the common DB code has a converter class, and I am getting the below error while running the Business logic.
Caused by: org.hibernate.AssertionFailure: AttributeConverter class [class com.td.sba.iep.jpa.converters.ModeltoDBAttributeConverter] registered multiple times
What I did:
I tried to exclude the dependencies while packaging the Utility classes using the below code in pom.xml.
<plugin>
<groupId>org.springframework.boot</groupId>
<artifactId>spring-boot-maven-plugin</artifactId>
<!-- Fools the plugin into creating the code only jar instead of the runnable one -->
<executions>
<execution>
<goals>
<goal>repackage</goal>
</goals>
<configuration>
<classifier>exec</classifier>
</configuration>
</execution>
</executions>
</plugin>
But when I include the exec jar created into the Business logic, it shows that the utility classes are not found.
WHAT I NEED:
How do I fix the 'org.hibernate.AssertionFailure'?
Should I exclude the dependencies while creating the jar from utility classes? How do I do it?
Incase it matters, I am using Eclipse.

Have you tried to use <exclusions> element on this project dependencies? Like:
Business Logic Project pom.xml file:
<dependency>
<groupId>com.utility.project</groupId>
<artifactId>UtilityProject</artifactId>
<version>1.0.0</version>
<exclusions>
<exclusion>
<groupId>group.id.jar.you.want.to.exclude</groupId>
<artifactId>artifact.id.jar.you.want.to.exclude</artifactId>
</exclusion>
</exclusions>
</dependency>
UPDATE
Since you already have CommonDB dependencies on your UtilityProject pom, remove this CommonDB dependency from your business logic pom. This error is because you have 2 classes (same class) being registered with same name. If you already have CommonDB dependency on UtilityProject and you use this UtilityProject as dependency on Business, you don't need to import it twice.

Maven appears to be ignoring source and target in webapp

I'm getting "Generated servlet error:|try-with-resources is not supported in -source 1.5". 1.5 is maven's default according to another question on the topic, but I thought I had fixed that in my pom.xml -
<project xsi:schemaLocation="http://maven.apache.org/POM/4.0.0 http://maven.apache.org/xsd/maven-4.0.0.xsd" xmlns="http://maven.apache.org/POM/4.0.0"

Other packages in the project work fine with 1.7, as seen in the parent pom -
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<project xmlns="http://maven.apache.org/POM/4.0.0" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="http://maven.apache.org/POM/4.0.0 http://maven.apache.org/xsd/maven-4.0.0.xsd">

<packaging>pom</packaging>

<modules>
<module>try-with-resources-works-here</module>
<module>and-here</module>
<module>even-in-this-one</module>
<module>website</module>
</modules>
<build>
<plugins>
<plugin>
<groupId>org.apache.maven.plugins</groupId>
<artifactId>maven-compiler-plugin</artifactId>

<configuration>
<source>1.7</source>
<target>1.7</target>
</configuration>
</plugin>
</plugins>
</build>
<dependencies>
<dependency>
<groupId>com.google.guava</groupId>
<artifactId>guava</artifactId>
<version>14.0.1</version>
</dependency>
<dependency>
<groupId>org.slf4j</groupId>
<artifactId>slf4j-log4j12</artifactId>
<version>1.7.2</version>
</dependency>
<dependency>
<groupId>log4j</groupId>
<artifactId>log4j</artifactId>
<version>1.2.14</version>
</dependency>
</dependencies>
</project>
Ultimately, I think the question is probably "what have I done wrong that maven is ignoring the source and target specifications?" There are similar questions out there, but the ones I've seen are either not solved or suggest things that exist in my pom.
Any help would be appreciated.
Jetty is using 1.5 source and target args by default for JSP compilation. See Jetty embedded and JSP compilation to 1.7? for pointers and info on switching Jetty to use 1.7
