protected void onCreate(#Nullable Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_camera1);
Log.d(TAG, "onCreate: Started");
photo = (ImageView)findViewById(R.id.dcm);
button= (Button)findViewById(R.id.button);
button.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() {
#Override
public void onClick(View v) {
File file = getFile();
Intent camera = new Intent(MediaStore.ACTION_IMAGE_CAPTURE);
camera.putExtra(MediaStore.EXTRA_OUTPUT, Uri.fromFile(file));
startActivityForResult(camera,CAMERA_REQUEST);
}
});
}
private File getFile() {
File folder = new File("sdcard/camera_app");
if (!folder.exists()){
folder.mkdir();
}
File image_file = new File(folder,"cam_image.jpg");
return image_file;
}
#Override
protected void onActivityResult(int requestCode, int resultCode, Intent data) {
String path = "sdcard/camera_app/cam_image.jpg";
photo.setImageDrawable(Drawable.createFromPath(path));
setupBottomNavigationView();}
private void setupBottomNavigationView(){
Log.d(TAG, "setupBottomNavigationView: Setting up bottom navigation view");
BottomNavigationViewEx bottomNavigationView = (BottomNavigationViewEx) findViewById(R.id.bottomNavView);
BottomNavigationViewHelper.setupBottomNavigationView(bottomNavigationView);
BottomNavigationViewHelper.enableNavigation(CameraActivity.this, this, bottomNavigationView);
Menu menu = bottomNavigationView.getMenu();
MenuItem menuItem = menu.getItem(ActivityNumber);
menuItem.setChecked(true);}
I have added camera activity in manifest too.
AndroidManifest.xml
<uses-feature android:name="android.hardware.camera2"/>
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE"/>
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE"/>

App crashes when I call a constructor in an Activity

I am new to android studio and I am trying to build a Notepad app.
button.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener()
{
#Override
public void onClick(View v) {
String title = findViewById(R.id.textView3).toString();
String note_content = findViewById(R.id.textView).toString();
FileOutputStream outputStream;
try
{
outputStream = openFileOutput(title, Context.MODE_PRIVATE);
outputStream.write(note_content.getBytes());
}
catch (FileNotFoundException e)
{
e.printStackTrace();
}
catch (IOException e)
{
e.printStackTrace();
}
MainActivity mainActivity = new MainActivity(title);
}
});
This is the button a user clicks to save the note. Once the code saves the note, it should send the Title to MainActivity so that it can be sent to Recycleview Adapter - this will display it in viewholder as a text.
Presently, when I run the code, it crashes - however, when I remove the constructor, the app works fine.
( MainActivity mainActivity = new MainActivity(title);)

As per the error message:
java.lang.InstantiationException: java.lang.Class has no zero argument constructor
A zero argument constructor is required for the Android system to instantiate an Activity. You should never be manually calling an Activity constructor yourself since only the system can properly create an Activity.
The Parcelables and Bundles documentation details the correct way of sending information to an Activity using the extras Bundle.
Unable to instantiate activity. Because you can't start an activity like this. You have to use intent to start activity. To sent "title" use intent extra.
Intent intent=new Intent(CurrentActivity.this, NewActivty.this);
intent.putExtra("title", title);
startActivty(intent);
Is your Activity in your AndroidManifest.xml?
If it is, you have to retrieve the title from your extras from onCreate() of MainActivity instead from the constructor.
Something like that:
//that code instead of your MainActivity mainActivity = new MainActivity(title); line
Intent intent = new Intent(YourActualActivity.this, MainActivity.class);
intent.putExtra("title", title);
startActivity(intent);
//That code in the onCreate method of your MainActivity
Bundle extras = getIntent().getExtras();
if (extras != null) {
String title = extras.getString("title");
}

Image uploading to Cloudinary Failed in Android

The camera is working fine but after clicking the image, the application is crashing again and again. Tried to debug it but not getting where I am having the error.

I tried to hard code the sample image URL's but still it is not working.
May be the issue is with this line
cloudinary.uploader().upload(photoFile.getAbsolutePath(), ObjectUtils.emptyMap());
public static final int TAKE_PHOTO_REQUEST = 0;
#Override
protected void onActivityResult(int requestCode, int resultCode, #Nullable Intent data) {
super.onActivityResult(requestCode, resultCode, data);
if (requestCode == TAKE_PHOTO_REQUEST) {
if (resultCode == RESULT_OK) {
//File to upload to cloudinary
Toast.makeText(this, "Pakistan Zinabad", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();
Map config = new HashMap();
config.put("cloud_name", "nomancloud");
config.put("api_key", "myKey");
config.put("api_secret", "mySecretApi");
Cloudinary cloudinary = new Cloudinary(config);
try {
cloudinary.uploader().upload(photoFile.getAbsolutePath(), ObjectUtils.emptyMap());
} catch (IOException e) {
e.printStackTrace();
}
} else if (resultCode == RESULT_CANCELED) {
// User cancelled the image capture
//finish();
}
}
}
private File createImageFile() throws IOException {
// Create an image file name
String imageFileName = "capturedImage";
File storageDir = Environment.getExternalStoragePublicDirectory(
Environment.DIRECTORY_PICTURES);
File image = File.createTempFile(
imageFileName, /* prefix */
".jpg", /* suffix */
storageDir /* directory */
);
// Save a file: path for use with ACTION_VIEW intents
return image;
}
#Override
public void onClick(View v) {
Intent takePhotoIntent = new Intent(MediaStore.ACTION_IMAGE_CAPTURE);
if (takePhotoIntent.resolveActivity(getPackageManager()) != null) {
// Create the File where the photo should go
photoFile = null;
try {
photoFile = createImageFile();
}
catch (IOException ex) {
// Error occurred while creating the File
}
// Continue only if the File was successfully created
if (photoFile != null) {
takePhotoIntent.putExtra(MediaStore.EXTRA_OUTPUT,
Uri.fromFile(photoFile));
startActivityForResult(takePhotoIntent, TAKE_PHOTO_REQUEST);
}
}
}
Can you try using:
Map uploadResult = cloudinary.uploader().upload("http://res.cloudinary.com/demo/image/upload/sample.jpg", ObjectUtils.emptyMap());
And print the RuntimeException/uploadResult?
Try using the MediaManager class for android provided by Cloudinary. You will need to call the dispatch() method which will run on a background thread. Basically you are getting NetworkOnMainThread exception which means you are doing network calls on the UI thread with Android does not allow. Check the documentation, its easy.
String requestId = MediaManager.get().upload("imageFile.jpg")
.unsigned("sample_preset")
.dispatch();

Android NULL Pointer Exception and Fragment data transmission [duplicate]

This question already has answers here:
What is a NullPointerException, and how do I fix it?

Closed 5 years ago.
I am a beginner at android studio, I have a mission to redesign the app. I use the Fragment. But when I run my app, it has stopped and there is no error in my Gradle. I looked for many website to solve my question, but still have no idea.
I have some questions below.
How can I fix the java.lang.RuntimeException (NULL Pointer Exception) ?

About Fragment. Is there any setting I have to do when I receive data form sever?
I want to put the received data to TextView in the another view .
Your init() function is probably try to find views inside fragments in view pager. However, at that moment, the fragments are not inflated yet, so your views in the activity are null and trying to do operation on them gives NPE. You should use onCreateView() of Fragment classes to find those views. Then you may notify main activity via callback mechanism.
For example, create FirstFragment as follows:
public class FirstFragment extends Fragment {
private OnFirstFragmentReadyListener callback;
#Override
public void onAttach(Context context) {
super.onAttach(context);
// This makes sure that the container activity has implemented the callback.
try {
callback = (OnFirstFragmentReadyListener) context;
} catch (ClassCastException e) {
throw new ClassCastException(context.toString()
+ " must implement OnFirstFragmentReadyListener");
}
}
#Override
public View onCreateView(LayoutInflater inflater, ViewGroup container,
Bundle savedInstanceState) {
View rootView = inflater.inflate(R.layout.fragment_first, container, false);
return rootView;
}
#Override
public void onActivityCreated(#Nullable Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onActivityCreated(savedInstanceState);
// Notify the parent activity that the fragment is inflated.
callback.onFirstFragmentReady();
}
public interface OnFirstFragmentReadyListener {
void onFirstFragmentReady();
}
}
Let the layout of FirstFragment as follows (referenced above as fragment_first):
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent">
<TextView
android:id="#+id/first_label"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content" />
</RelativeLayout>
Assume we created two more similar fragment classes named as SecondFragment and ThirdFragment. Then the activity should be like this:
public class MainActivity extends AppCompatActivity implements FirstFragment.OnFirstFragmentReadyListener,
SecondFragment.OnSecondFragmentReadyListener, ThirdFragment.OnThirdFragmentReadyListener {
...
#Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);
viewPager =(ViewPager) findViewById(R.id.pager);
PagerAdapter pagerAdapter = new PagerAdapter(getSupportFragmentManager());
viewPager.setAdapter(pagerAdapter);
// Don't call these functions here, spread them into callbacks.
// init();
// Action();
}
#Override
public void onFirstFragmentReady() {
TextView firstTextView = (TextView) findViewById(R.id.first_label);
...
// Now you have the views from FirstFragment instance.
// You can now call setText() or setOnClickListener() here.
}
#Override
public void onSecondFragmentReady() {
TextView secondTextView = (TextView) findViewById(R.id.second_label);
...
// Now you have the views from SecondFragment instance.
// You can now call setText() or setOnClickListener() here.
}
#Override
public void onThirdFragmentReady() {
TextView thirdTextView = (TextView) findViewById(R.id.third_label);
...
// Now you have the views from ThirdFragment instance.
// You can now call setText() or setOnClickListener() here.
}
}
Although this code works, this may not be the best way. I think it is better to do operations on views like setting texts or assigning OnClickListeners in fragments itself. If you need to notify a fragment after an action happened in the parent activity, you can implement public methods inside fragments and you can call them from the parent activity when needed.
In fragment you should call the function in onCreateView function(reason as mention by #Mehmed) which is something like below:
#Override
public View onCreateView(LayoutInflater inflater, ViewGroup container,
Bundle savedInstanceState) {
// Inflate the layout for this fragment
View view = inflater.inflate(R.layout.your_fragment, container, false);
//all findViewById;
TextView yourTextView = (Text)view.findViewById(R.id.yourTextView);
//here call for your function
init();
// any other function goes here
return view;
}

App not running on switching between Activities

I have two Activities
1. List view (multiple items each with title and link)
2. Text View( when click on any item in list view, fetches the link, do xml parsing and fetch the content and displayed)
I used intent to switch from List view to text view activity. Now on first time click, it start the text view activity. On pressing devices back button, it goes again to List view. Uptil now it's all right.
The main problem is that when the second time , i click on any item in List view, Android App gives me error of "Unfortunately application has stopped" .
and On clicking "OK" , it displayed the content of second item. and when second time , i pressed back button , application got closed
Here is my Second activity
public class ColoumnView extends Activity{
#Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_coloumn_view);
Intent intent = getIntent();
String message = intent.getStringExtra(MainListActivity.EXTRA_MESSAGE);
TextView myColoumnView = (TextView)findViewById(R.id.ColoumnView);
myColoumnView.setText(message);
}
#Override
public void onBackPressed()
{
// code here to show dialog
super.onBackPressed();
finish();
}
Here is the part of my first activity where it is creating an intent
protected void onPostExecute(List<ContentGetter.Content> contents) {
if (contents != null && mException == null) {
for(int i=0; i<contents.size();i++) {
if(contents.get(i).summary != null )
{
summaryContent= contents.get(i).summary;
}
else {
continue;
}
Intent intent = new Intent(MainListActivity.this,ColoumnView.class);
intent.putExtra(EXTRA_MESSAGE, summaryContent);
startActivity(intent);
Log.d(TAG, contents.get(i).summary != null ? contents.get(0).summary : "NULL");
}
} else {
if (mException instanceof IOException){
} else if (mException instanceof XmlPullParserException) {
}
}
}

The problem is in line no 241 of activity MainListActivity. You are calling a print there which is not having a proper msg to print for time being comment that line. If you share the line of code in that line that would help me narrow it down
Looks like this is doing it...
Log.d(TAG, contents.get(i).summary != null ? contents.get(0).summary : "NULL");
Ensure that your log message is not null, in this case, contents.get(0).summary.

Android Manifest Permissions issues

I followed a tutorial online about how to create a simple app that can switch on and off your phone's cam-light.
<manifest....>
<uses-permission android:name = "android.permission.CAMERA"/>
<uses-feature android:name = "android.hardware.camera"/>
</manifest>
This is in android manifest.
The problem: it crashes when I press the ON button (made by me, in application)
Stack Trace:
07-17 22:27:13.990: E/AndroidRuntime(1775): FATAL EXCEPTION: main

Another strange thing: when I install the app, there are no details about what permissions is requiring.
"The application can acces the following on your phone:" and there's nothing. (despite the permissions in tutorial where it shows that the application needs permision to Camera.)
Can someone please help me, thanks.
setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);
Button aprinde =(Button)findViewById(R.id.aprinde);
//Button sting = (Button)findViewById(R.id.sting);
cameraObj = Camera.open();
aprinde.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener()
{
public void onClick(View view){
Camera.Parameters cameraParams = cameraObj.getParameters();
cameraParams.setFlashMode(Camera.Parameters.FLASH_MODE_TORCH);
cameraObj.setParameters(cameraParams);
cameraObj.startPreview();
}
} );
Your app is crashing because you are running it on an emulator, which doesn't have a back-facing camera.
The documentation for Camera#open():
Creates a new Camera object to access the first back-facing camera on the
device. If the device does not have a back-facing camera, this returns
null.
You can fix the crash by checking for null.
public void onClick(View v) {
if (cameraObj == null) {
return;
}
Camera.Parameters cameraParams = cameraObj.getParameters();
cameraParams.setFlashMode(Camera.Parameters.FLASH_MODE_TORCH);
cameraObj.setParameters(cameraParams);
cameraObj.startPreview();
}
You should also look out for setParameters as this could crash too if the device doesn't have a flash.
public void onClick(View v) {
if (cameraObj == null) {
return;
}
Camera.Parameters cameraParams = cameraObj.getParameters();
if (cameraParams.getFlashMode() == null) {
return;
}
cameraParams.setFlashMode(Camera.Parameters.FLASH_MODE_TORCH);
cameraObj.setParameters(cameraParams);
cameraObj.startPreview();
}
