WebService request response in Service when app is closed android - java

I have a Service class in my android app.
This service get user location and send location to server with ASP WebService.
Below is my service code :
public class ServiceSendLocation extends Service {
private static final String TAG = "ServiceSendLocation";
final long milliseconds_sleep = 3000;
private boolean isRunning = false;
#Override
public void onCreate() {
super.onCreate();
isRunning = true;
Log.i(TAG, "Service onCreate");
}
#Override
public int onStartCommand(Intent intent, int flags, final int startId) {
Log.i(TAG, "Service onStartCommand");
new Thread(new Runnable() {
#Override
public void run() {
while (true) {
try {
Thread.sleep(milliseconds_sleep);
} catch (Exception e) {}
getLocationAndSend();
if (isRunning)
Log.i(TAG, "Service running");
}
}
}
}).start();
return Service.START_STICKY;
}
private void getLocationAndSend() {
Log.i(TAG, "Service getLocationAndSend");
LocationManager locationManager = null;
LocationListener locationListener = new ServiceGetLocation();
locationManager = (LocationManager) getSystemService(Context.LOCATION_SERVICE);
if (ActivityCompat.checkSelfPermission(this, Manifest.permission.ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION) == PackageManager.PERMISSION_GRANTED && ActivityCompat.checkSelfPermission(this, Manifest.permission.ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION) == PackageManager.PERMISSION_GRANTED) {
Log.i(TAG, "Service PERMISSION_GRANTED");
try {
locationManager.requestLocationUpdates(LocationManager.GPS_PROVIDER, 0, 0, locationListener);
HelperWS.register(structCheckUser.getUserId(), ServiceGetLocation.lat + "", ServiceGetLocation.lng + "", new HelperWS.InsertGpsDriver() {
#Override
public void onSuccess(StructInsertGpsDriver success) {
Log.i(TAG, "Success : " +ServiceGetLocation.lat + ", " + ServiceGetLocation.lng);
Toast.makeText(ServiceSendLocation.this, "success : " +ServiceGetLocation.lat + ", " + ServiceGetLocation.lng , Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();
}
#Override
public void onFail(String message) {
Log.i(TAG, "onFail");
}
});
} catch (Exception e) {}
} else {
Log.i(TAG, "Service PERMISSION_NOT_GRANTED");
}
}
#Override
public IBinder onBind(Intent intent) {
return null;
}
#Override
public void onDestroy() {
super.onDestroy();
isRunning = false;
Log.i(TAG, "Service onDestroy");
}
}
and in manifest :
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.INTERNET" />
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION" />
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION" />
<application
...>
<service
android:name=".SendLocation.ServiceSendLocation" />
</application>
This code sends the location information to the server and get the response form WebService. But when app is closed this code get the location information and also send request but we don't get webService response
Somebody please help me.

How to handle online media player on network state change (network shifts between WiFi or mobile data)?

In my app there is a media player which is playing streamed url.
The player starts in oncreate method when the connection to internet is available.I have a broadcast receiver which checks the connection to the internet and notify the user. I am facing a problem here that when my app shifts from Wifi to cellular network, media player should take a little pause and starts again because the network is available again. But i'am unable to find the logic that how can i achieve this?
Here is my sample code,Kindly solve the issue?
Any help will be grateful.
Manifest:
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.INTERNET" />
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE" />
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.WAKE_LOCK" />
<receiver android:name=".receivers.NetworkChangeReciever">
<intent-filter>
<action android:name="android.net.conn.CONNECTIVITY_CHANGE" />
</intent-filter>
</receiver>
Main Activity:
private BroadcastReceiver mNetworkReceiver;
static TextView tv_check_connection;
#Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);
tv_check_connection=(TextView) findViewById(R.id.tv_check_connection);
mNetworkReceiver = new NetworkChangeReciever();
registerNetworkBroadcastForNougat();
// checkNetworkStatus();
mSelectedTrackTitle = (TextView) findViewById(R.id.selected_track_title);
nowplaying = (TextView) findViewById(R.id.nowplaying);
mPlayerControl = (ImageView) findViewById(R.id.player_control);
mPlayerControl.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() {
#Override
public void onClick(View v) {
togglePlayPause();
}
});
mSelectedTrackTitle.setText("FM World Pakistan");
nowplaying.setText("Now Playing");
mPlayerControl.setImageResource(R.drawable.ic_pause_circle_filled);
mMediaPlayer = new MediaPlayer();
mMediaPlayer.setAudioStreamType(AudioManager.STREAM_MUSIC);
try {
mMediaPlayer.setDataSource(url);
mMediaPlayer.prepare();
mMediaPlayer.setOnPreparedListener(new MediaPlayer.OnPreparedListener() {

}
});
} catch (IOException e) {
e.printStackTrace();
nowplaying.setText("Offline");
Toast.makeText(MainActivity.this, "Radio Offline", Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show();
mPlayerControl.setImageResource(R.drawable.ic_play_circle_filled);
}
public static void dialog(boolean value){
if(value){

tv_check_connection.setBackgroundResource(R.color.neton);
tv_check_connection.setTextColor(Color.WHITE);
Handler handler = new Handler();
Runnable delayrunnable = new Runnable() {
#Override
public void run() {
tv_check_connection.setVisibility(View.GONE);
}
};
handler.postDelayed(delayrunnable, 3000);
}else {
tv_check_connection.setVisibility(View.VISIBLE);
tv_check_connection.setText("Could not connect to Internet.");
tv_check_connection.setBackgroundResource(R.color.colorAccent);
tv_check_connection.setTextColor(Color.WHITE);
nowplaying.setText("Buffering...");
mPlayerControl.setImageResource(R.drawable.ic_play_circle_filled);
}
}
private void registerNetworkBroadcastForNougat() {
if (Build.VERSION.SDK_INT >= Build.VERSION_CODES.N) {
registerReceiver(mNetworkReceiver, new IntentFilter(ConnectivityManager.CONNECTIVITY_ACTION));
}
if (Build.VERSION.SDK_INT >= Build.VERSION_CODES.M) {
registerReceiver(mNetworkReceiver, new IntentFilter(ConnectivityManager.CONNECTIVITY_ACTION));
}
}
protected void unregisterNetworkChanges() {
try {
unregisterReceiver(mNetworkReceiver);
} catch (IllegalArgumentException e) {
e.printStackTrace();
}
}
private void togglePlayPause() {
if (mMediaPlayer.isPlaying()) {
mMediaPlayer.pause();
nowplaying.setText("Offline");
mPlayerControl.setImageResource(R.drawable.ic_play_circle_filled);
} else {
mMediaPlayer.start();
nowplaying.setText("Now Playing");
mPlayerControl.setImageResource(R.drawable.ic_pause_circle_filled);
}
}
#Override
protected void onDestroy() {
super.onDestroy();
unregisterNetworkChanges();
if (mMediaPlayer != null) {
if (mMediaPlayer.isPlaying()) {
mMediaPlayer.stop();
}
mMediaPlayer.release();
mMediaPlayer = null;
}
}
Receiver Class:
public class NetworkChangeReciever extends BroadcastReceiver {
#Override
public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent) {
try
{
if (isOnline(context)) {
dialog(true);
Log.e("Hi", "Online Connect Intenet ");
} else {
dialog(false);
Log.e("Sorry","Conectivity Failure !!! ");
}
} catch (NullPointerException e) {
e.printStackTrace();
}
}
private boolean isOnline(Context context) {
try {
ConnectivityManager cm = (ConnectivityManager) context.getSystemService(Context.CONNECTIVITY_SERVICE);
NetworkInfo netInfo = cm.getActiveNetworkInfo();
//should check null because in airplane mode it will be null
return (netInfo != null && netInfo.isConnected());
} catch (NullPointerException e) {
e.printStackTrace();
return false;
}
}
I found a solution as, if media player is declared as static; we can reinitialize it in dialog()
public static void dialog(boolean value){
if(value){
tv_check_connection.setText("We are back !!!");
tv_check_connection.setBackgroundResource(R.color.neton);
tv_check_connection.setTextColor(Color.WHITE);
//recreate media player
Handler handler = new Handler();
Runnable delayrunnable = new Runnable() {
#Override
public void run() {
tv_check_connection.setVisibility(View.GONE);
}
};
handler.postDelayed(delayrunnable, 3000);
}else {
tv_check_connection.setVisibility(View.VISIBLE);
tv_check_connection.setText("Could not connect to Internet.");
tv_check_connection.setBackgroundResource(R.color.colorAccent);
tv_check_connection.setTextColor(Color.WHITE);
nowplaying.setText("Buffering...");
mPlayerControl.setImageResource(R.drawable.ic_play_circle_filled);
//pause media player
}
}

By this code when my gps is off it dose not fetch the location details through the network though the network is ON. It shows both boolean variables of network_enabled and gps_enabled as false though the network is ON so network_enabled should be true.
I have added both the permissions of coarse location and fine location in the manifest.
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION" />
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.INTERNET" />
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.ACCESS_WIFI_STATE" />
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION"/>
On the other side when I turn on the gps I get the location. Just not working trough the network.
Is there a problem in NETWORK_PROVIDER? What can be the problem?
Please help. Thank you..

I am very puzzled.
One thing you could try is to check the permissions of the app on the phone itself. I've found with my device (Android version 6.0.1) it's not enough to just add "uses-permission android:name="android.permission.ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION" /> and
"uses-permission android:name="android.permission.ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION" />"
in the manifest, you have to grant permissions to the app manually on the device.
To do this, go to Settings > Apps > 'yourApp' > Permissions and slide across the bar to turn on Location for that app.
I'm new enough to Android apps myself so there may be a bigger problem in your case I'm not sure but worth a try anyway!

Implementing a background service to catch location

I have an app that can capture fotos and send to the server.
I need to get location(lat,lon,alt) everytime i take a foto.
After a lot of research i understood that taking this data requires some time, the gps triangulation must run asyncronous, so i tried to figure out the best way to do this.
After some time, i had the idea, to start a service, everytime i run the aplication, this service will grab the last location everytime, and when i send a foto i will get the last location values.
So i did something like this(Service):
package com.example.afcosta.inesctec.pt.android.services;
import android.app.Service;
import android.content.Intent;
import android.location.Location;
import android.location.LocationManager;
import android.os.Bundle;
import android.os.IBinder;
import android.util.Log;
public class MyService extends Service {
private static final String TAG = "BOOMBOOMTESTGPS";
private LocationManager mLocationManager = null;
private static final int LOCATION_INTERVAL = 1000;
private static final float LOCATION_DISTANCE = 10f;
private class LocationListener implements android.location.LocationListener
{
Location mLastLocation;
public LocationListener(String provider)
{
Log.e(TAG, "LocationListener " + provider);
mLastLocation = new Location(provider);
}
#Override
public void onLocationChanged(Location location)
{
Log.e("asd", "onLocationChanged: " + location);
mLastLocation.set(location);
}
#Override
public void onProviderDisabled(String provider)
{
Log.e(TAG, "onProviderDisabled: " + provider);
}
#Override
public void onProviderEnabled(String provider)
{
Log.e(TAG, "onProviderEnabled: " + provider);
}
#Override
public void onStatusChanged(String provider, int status, Bundle extras)
{
Log.e(TAG, "onStatusChanged: " + provider);
}
}
LocationListener[] mLocationListeners = new LocationListener[] {
new LocationListener(LocationManager.GPS_PROVIDER),
new LocationListener(LocationManager.NETWORK_PROVIDER)
};
#Override
public IBinder onBind(Intent arg0)
{
return null;
}
#Override
public int onStartCommand(Intent intent, int flags, int startId)
{
Log.e(TAG, "onStartCommand");
super.onStartCommand(intent, flags, startId);
return START_STICKY;
}
#Override
public void onCreate()
{
Log.e(TAG, "onCreate");
initializeLocationManager();
try {
mLocationManager.requestLocationUpdates(
LocationManager.NETWORK_PROVIDER, LOCATION_INTERVAL, LOCATION_DISTANCE,
mLocationListeners[1]);
} catch (java.lang.SecurityException ex) {
Log.i(TAG, "fail to request location update, ignore", ex);
} catch (IllegalArgumentException ex) {
Log.d(TAG, "network provider does not exist, " + ex.getMessage());
}
try {
mLocationManager.requestLocationUpdates(
LocationManager.GPS_PROVIDER, LOCATION_INTERVAL, LOCATION_DISTANCE,
mLocationListeners[0]);
} catch (java.lang.SecurityException ex) {
Log.i(TAG, "fail to request location update, ignore", ex);
} catch (IllegalArgumentException ex) {
Log.d(TAG, "gps provider does not exist " + ex.getMessage());
}
}
#Override
public void onDestroy()
{
Log.e(TAG, "onDestroy");
super.onDestroy();
if (mLocationManager != null) {
for (int i = 0; i < mLocationListeners.length; i++) {
try {
mLocationManager.removeUpdates(mLocationListeners[i]);
} catch (Exception ex) {
Log.i(TAG, "fail to remove location listners, ignore", ex);
}
}
}
}
private void initializeLocationManager() {
Log.e(TAG, "initializeLocationManager");
if (mLocationManager == null) {
mLocationManager = (LocationManager) getApplicationContext().getSystemService(this.LOCATION_SERVICE);
}
}
}
and then i call the service when my app runs(at the moment i am testing this just with login(onCreate))
startService(new Intent(this, MyService.class));
i get this logTrace(with red):
`05-22 20:35:39.652 32426-32426/com.example.afcosta.inesctec.pt.android E/BOOMBOOMTESTGPS: LocationListener gps

i don't get any location, i don't know why, the onlocationchanged never runs, if the location doesn't change i want to get the last.
How can i accomplish that?
Thanks

You don't need service class as you can get location in activity in which you are taking photos.
So first of all add permissions in manifest file
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION" />
and dependencies in gradle
compile 'com.google.android.gms:play-services:10.2.6'
Then in activity in which you are taking photos
Implement listeners
public class Activity extends AppCompatActivity implements ConnectionCallbacks, OnConnectionFailedListener{
protected Location mLastLocation;
private double Latitude;
private double Longitude;
in onCreate method ask user for location permission and call
buildGoogleApiClient();
and then define buildGoogleApiClient() method
/**
* Builds a GoogleApiClient. Uses the addApi() method to request the LocationServices API.
*/
protected synchronized void buildGoogleApiClient() {
mGoogleApiClient = new GoogleApiClient.Builder(this)
.addConnectionCallbacks(this)
.addOnConnectionFailedListener(this)
.addApi(LocationServices.API)
.build();
}
after that implements listener interfaces methods
#Override
public void onConnected(Bundle connectionHint) {
if (ActivityCompat.checkSelfPermission(this, Manifest.permission.ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION) != PackageManager.PERMISSION_GRANTED && ActivityCompat.checkSelfPermission(this, Manifest.permission.ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION) != PackageManager.PERMISSION_GRANTED) {
return;
}
mLastLocation = LocationServices.FusedLocationApi.getLastLocation(mGoogleApiClient);
if (mLastLocation != null) {
Latitude = mLastLocation.getLatitude();
Longitude = mLastLocation.getLongitude();
}
}
#Override
public void onConnectionFailed(ConnectionResult result) {
// Refer to the javadoc for ConnectionResult to see what error codes might be returned in
// onConnectionFailed.
Log.i(TAG, "Connection failed: ConnectionResult.getErrorCode() = " + result.getErrorCode());
}
#Override
public void onConnectionSuspended(int cause) {
// The connection to Google Play services was lost for some reason. We call connect() to
// attempt to re-establish the connection.
Log.i(TAG, "Connection suspended");
mGoogleApiClient.connect();
}
then at the end
#Override
protected void onStop() {
super.onStop();
if (mGoogleApiClient.isConnected()) {
mGoogleApiClient.disconnect();
}
}
#Override
protected void onStart() {
super.onStart();
mGoogleApiClient.connect();
}

Can't get passed Google Drive "Choose Account" screen in Android

I'm trying to incorporate the Google Drive API within my android application.
I have added google play services to my build.gradle along with getting the Android API key. My issue is within the OnResume() where the user picks the account.
It just keeps reprompting the user to choose account and does not proceed.
May anyone help me ?

You get the AccountSelector when the GoogleApiClient is not able to connect and has a resolution which requires the user to authorize the App for the API. This happens when you call "result.startResolutionForResult(this, REQUEST_CODE_RESOLUTION);" from the onConnectionFailed method.
Once the user selects the account your activity gets a callback with the code REQUEST_CODE_RESOLUTION. This code must be handled and you should call apiClient.connect() to connect again when this code is received in onActivityResult method.
See this for more details. I hope it works :)
You can easily force to prompt the user to choose account by using [Account Picker](https://developer.android.com/reference/android/accounts/AccountManager.html#newChooseAccountIntent(android.accounts.Account, java.util.ArrayList, java.lang.String[], boolean, java.lang.String, java.lang.String, java.lang.String[], android.os.Bundle)), common account picker is similar to the standard framework account picker introduced in newChooseAccountIntent. Returns an intent to an Activity that prompts the user to choose from a list of accounts. The caller will then typically start the activity by calling startActivityForResult(intent, ...);.
On success the activity returns a Bundle with the account name and type specified using keys KEY_ACCOUNT_NAME and KEY_ACCOUNT_TYPE.
The most common case is to call this with one account type, e.g.:
Intent intent = AccountPicker.newChooseAccountIntent(null, null, new String[]{"com.google"},
false, null, null, null, null);
startActivityForResult(intent, SOME_REQUEST_CODE);
The account picker activity will return when the user has selected and/or created an account, and the resulting account name can be retrieved as follows:
protected void onActivityResult(final int requestCode, final int resultCode,
final Intent data) {
if (requestCode == SOME_REQUEST_CODE && resultCode == RESULT_OK) {
String accountName = data.getStringExtra(AccountManager.KEY_ACCOUNT_NAME);
}
}
Here's the Official Google Sample code which uses the above code with concrete explanation how to use API: https://developers.google.com/drive/v3/web/quickstart/android#step_5_setup_the_sample
Take a look at your onResume() and onConnectionFailded() methods.
#Override
protected void onResume() {
super.onResume();
if (mGoogleApiClient == null) {
mGoogleApiClient = new GoogleApiClient.Builder(this)
.addApi(Drive.API)
.addScope(Drive.SCOPE_FILE)
.addConnectionCallbacks(this)
.addOnConnectionFailedListener(this)
.build();
}
mGoogleApiClient.connect();
}
#Override
public void onConnectionFailed(ConnectionResult result) {
Log.i(TAG, "GoogleApiClient connection failed: " + result.toString());
if (!result.hasResolution()) {
GoogleApiAvailability.getInstance().getErrorDialog(this, result.getErrorCode(), 0).show();
return;
}
try {
result.startResolutionForResult(this, REQUEST_CODE_RESOLUTION);
} catch (IntentSender.SendIntentException e) {
Log.e(TAG, "Exception while starting resolution activity", e);
}
}
What happens?
In onResume() you create GoogleApiClient and call connect(). Connection fails because you are not authorized with an account. Method onConnectionFailed() is executed which opens a resolution which is actually another activity called for result. You choose an acount but I guess authorization fails or is cancelled.
You return to your original activity and onResume() is executed. And you go a full circle again.
Why does your authorization fail? I guess because there is something wrong with your credentials. Go to Developer console and create O Auth credentials for your package and your key signature.
