I want to know how to add a fragment in your activity(either by xml(preferably) or java)without crashing your app. I am unable to add it and I've watched many tutorials but could not understand. Every time I add fragment to main activity, my app crashes.

Hello i'm new to android development and i'm trying to make a bottom navigation bar with acces to 3 items(declaration,profil,and map)
i've managed to show the navigation activity after login ,with the 3 fragments map declaration,and profil , but for the map fragment i can't show the map.
Any help or hint will be much appreciated,thank you.
i added this ligne of code:
<fragment
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:name="com.google.android.gms.maps.SupportMapFragment"
tools:context=".MapsActivity">
</fragment>
instead of
<com.google.android.gms.maps.MapView
android:id="#+id/map"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent">
</com.google.android.gms.maps.MapView>
now the map is showing
I'm currently trying to figure out how to create a ListView together with a bottom navigation bar, however, though after running the emulator it did not show anything. Why is this so?

Wish you many good things to come with android developing.
In this situation I've got 2 things to tell you:
First: Your BottomNavigationView has no android:layout_width and android:layout_height attributes. I think you just forgot to put them in here (if so, it is not any problem, I just wanted to make sure you notice that).
Second: Your layout is shown correctly. Why you see nothing? Because you have two views TextView and ListView which have android:layout_height="match_parent". So at first TextView is rendered and then ListView is rendered on it.
How can you see some results? That's simple. Just change FrameLayout to LinearLayout, set orientation to vertical and set TextView's height to wrap_content. You can put these changes in your fragment_home.xml file:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:orientation="vertical"
tools:context=".HomeFragment">
<!-- TODO: Update blank fragment layout -->
<TextView
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:text="#string/hello_blank_fragment" />
<ListView
android:id="#+id/listViewDetails"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent" />
</LinearLayout>
I have read many questions here about tabs in a fragment, and did everything described here: https://developer.android.com/reference/android/support/v4/app/FragmentTabHost.html
i got no error and the app doesn't crash or something, but the fragment is just empty. The JobFragment class is a simple fragment with just one label, but it isn't displayed.
here is my java code:
import android.os.Bundle;
import android.support.design.widget.TabLayout;
import android.support.v4.app.Fragment;
import android.support.v4.app.FragmentTabHost;
import android.support.v4.view.ViewPager;
import android.support.v7.widget.Toolbar;
import android.view.LayoutInflater;
import android.view.View;
import android.view.ViewGroup;
public class AutoFragment extends Fragment{
private FragmentTabHost mTabHost;
#Override
public View onCreateView(LayoutInflater inflater, ViewGroup container,Bundle savedInstanceState) {
mTabHost = new FragmentTabHost(getActivity());
mTabHost.setup(getActivity(), getChildFragmentManager(), R.layout.fragment_auto);
mTabHost.addTab(mTabHost.newTabSpec("simple").setIndicator("Simple"),
JobFragment.class, null);
mTabHost.addTab(mTabHost.newTabSpec("contacts").setIndicator("Contacts"),
JobFragment.class, null);
mTabHost.addTab(mTabHost.newTabSpec("custom").setIndicator("Custom"),
JobFragment.class, null);
mTabHost.addTab(mTabHost.newTabSpec("throttle").setIndicator("Throttle"),
JobFragment.class, null);
return mTabHost;
}
#Override
public void onDestroyView() {
super.onDestroyView();
mTabHost = null;
}
}
and here is my layout xml
<LinearLayout
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent"
android:orientation="vertical" >
<TabWidget
android:id="#android:id/tabs"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content" />
<FrameLayout
android:id="#android:id/tabcontent"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent" >
</FrameLayout>
</LinearLayout>
</android.support.v4.app.FragmentTabHost>
Try changing this line to:
mTabHost.setup(getActivity(), getSupportFragmentManager(), R.layout.fragment_auto);
So i have a main activity that commits the transaction of a fragment that inflates the activity with an image view just like a main cover, and with the button "Sign up" that takes you to the signUp activity. However, all of that does work like it shoulds, the transaction works and the inflater does too, but the problem comes when:
I am trying to call a fragment (signUpForm) from the activity (signUp). The root of the problem is that the fragment transaction to signUpForm is not working because the toast programmed on it is not showing, so it does not even get to the inflater.
signUp class:
package com.example.joshumberto.workcon;
import android.os.Bundle;
import android.support.v7.app.AppCompatActivity;
import android.widget.Toast;
public class signUp extends AppCompatActivity {
#Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_sign_up);
getSupportFragmentManager().beginTransaction()
.add(R.id.sign_up_container, new signUpForm(), "signUpForm").commit();
}
}

tools:context=".signUp" >
<TextView
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:text="look, i should have inflated companions"
/>
</LinearLayout>

Ideas? Thanks.
You should try replace() method instead of add(). like this.
getSupportFragmentManager().beginTransaction().replace(R.id.sign_up_container, new signUpForm(), "signUpForm").commit();

When I click the button in fragment_view1.xml, I need to go to custom_view.xml screen. It is a totally different fragment. How can I do this?
Add this to your OnClickListener:
CustomView cv = new CustomView();
FragmentManager fm= getFragmentManager();
FragmentTransaction ft= fm.beginTransaction();
ft.replace(R.id.custom_view, cv);
ft.commit();
You need to add this to the RelativeLayout in your
custom_view.xml
android:id="#+id/custom_view"
Try this...place inside listener
// Create new fragment and transaction
Fragment newFragment = new ExampleFragment();
FragmentTransaction transaction = getFragmentManager().beginTransaction();
// Replace whatever is in the fragment_container view with this fragment,
// and add the transaction to the back stack
transaction.replace(R.id.fragment_container, newFragment);
transaction.addToBackStack(null);
// Commit the transaction
transaction.commit();
//Create one FrameLayout and give the id as fragment_view in your fragment_view1.xml
and do like below
add this line in your layout fragment_view1.xml
<FrameLayout
android:id="#+id/fragment_view"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent" />
private class ButtonEvent implements OnClickListener
{
CustomView custFra = new CustomView();
fragmentTransaction.replace(R.id.fragment_view, custFra).commit();
}
