I am using TabLayout and SearcView. How can I do , when click search button to hide tab layout like whatsapp.
I try setEnabled method but it can't work properly.
I also used Visibility,setActivated method.What can I do?I don't know. I must use setAnimation method or something else?
MainActivity.java

If you have used menu item for search then you have to follow below code:
#Override
public boolean onOptionsItemSelected(MenuItem item) {
if (item.getItemId() == android.R.id.search) // set your own id if you have different id from search.
{
tabLayout.setVisibility(View.GONE);
return true;
}
return super.onOptionsItemSelected(item);
}
When you finished with search then set tablayout visible.
tabLayout.setVisibility(View.VISIBLE);
Follow these simple steps
In your XML file create Appbar. Inside that create a Constraintlayout and keep it as match parent match parent.
Inside that keep your toolbar at the top and below that your tab layout.
Now Create the Edittext of search view as WhatsApp and keep it also as Top_to_top of parent and make the view View. Gone.
In Activity on click of the search icon
toolbar.setVisibility(View.GONE);
tabLayout.setVisibility(View.GONE);
searchViewEditText.setVisibility(View.GONE);

I have a fully working imageslider with an Adapter and indicator dots. But now I want to add descriptions for each image with a TextView. Anyone have an idea how to do this? Thank you.
EDIT: see code below

Then u need to create custom adapter with layout what u want. You can find steps to create custom adapter by following this https://inducesmile.com/android/understanding-android-viewpager-and-custom-pageradapter/
then u need to change viewPager.setAdapter(adapter); to set object of your custom adapter
I am having some problems with my code..
I am trying to implement material design with fragments however the fragments are not displaying.
The image below is how it should look.

However this is what I am getting:

The XML Code is below:

MainActivity Below
package com.example.adeel.liverpoolnewsapp;
import android.support.design.widget.TabLayout;
import android.support.v7.app.AppCompatActivity;
import android.os.Bundle;
import android.support.v7.widget.Toolbar;
public class MainActivity_home extends AppCompatActivity {
#Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_main_home);
//adding toolbar
Toolbar toolbar= (Toolbar) findViewById(R.id.toolbar);
setSupportActionBar(toolbar);
//adding tabs below
TabLayout tabs = (TabLayout) findViewById(R.id.tabs);
tabs.addTab(tabs.newTab().setText("Tab 1"));
tabs.addTab(tabs.newTab().setText("Tab 2"));
tabs.addTab(tabs.newTab().setText("Tab 3"));
}
}
You have to setup your ViewPager with your Tab Layout.
Look at the below method and class:
private void setupViewPager(ViewPager viewPager) {
ViewPageAdapter adapter = new ViewPagerAdapter(getSupportFragmentManager());
adapter.addFragment(new FragmentName(), "TAB_TITLE");
viewPager.setAdapter(adapter);
}
class ViewPagerAdapter extends FragmentPaferAdapter{
private final List<Fragment> mFragmentList = new ArrayList<>();
private final List<String> mFragmentTitleList = new ArrayList<>();
public ViewPagerAdapter(FragmentManager manager) {
super(manager);
}
#Override
public Fragment getItem(int position) {
return mFragmentList.get(position);
}
#Override
public int getCount() {
return mFragmentList.size();
}
public void addFragment(Fragment fragment, String title) {
mFragmentList.add(fragment);
mFragmentTitleList.add(title);
}
#Override
public CharSequence getPageTitle(int position) {
return mFragmentTitleList.get(position);
}
}
in your MainActivity use like this:
#Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);
toolbar = (Toolbar) findViewById(R.id.toolbar);
setSupportActionBar(toolbar);
getSupportActionBar().setDisplayHomeAsUpEnabled(true);
viewPager = (ViewPager) findViewById(R.id.viewpager);
setupViewPager(viewPager);
tabLayout = (TabLayout) findViewById(R.id.tabs);
tabLayout.setupWithViewPager(viewPager);
}
activity_main.xml :
<android.support.design.widget.AppBarLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:theme="#style/ThemeOverlay.AppCompat.Dark.ActionBar">
<android.support.v7.widget.Toolbar
android:id="#+id/toolbar"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="?attr/actionBarSize"

app:layout_scrollFlags="scroll|enterAlways"
app:popupTheme="#style/ThemeOverlay.AppCompat.Light" />
<android.support.design.widget.TabLayout

android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
app:tabMode="fixed"
app:tabGravity="fill"/>
</android.support.design.widget.AppBarLayout>
<android.support.v4.view.ViewPager

Android Hive - Working with Tabs
I apologize in beforehand for my bad code and bad knowledge. I have just recently started coding in Android and Java
My problem is that I have Navigation Drawer and Tabs. Although if I choose something from the navigation drawer which loads up in a Fragment it doesn't show. Only the tabs are showing.
My plan is that one navigation drawer tab shall have 3 tabs inside and the rest just normal pages without tabs.

I don't know if that's enough or if more information or code is needed
The problem with your code is that your ViewPager with TabLayout should be part of the Fragment, not part of the Activity. And NavigationDrawer should just replace one fragment by another in the viewport (i.e. in the container). Now, in your code, you're trying to somehow insert your new Fragment into the ViewPager.
Here's a very basic app with Navigation Drawer, one Fragment with Tabs and rest fragments without tabs, which you can use as an example:
Activity.xml:
<android.support.v4.widget.DrawerLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
android:id="#+id/drawer_layout"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:fitsSystemWindows="true"
tools:openDrawer="start">
<android.support.design.widget.CoordinatorLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:fitsSystemWindows="true">
<android.support.design.widget.AppBarLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:theme="#style/AppTheme.AppBarOverlay">
<android.support.v7.widget.Toolbar
android:id="#+id/toolbar"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="?attr/actionBarSize"
android:background="?attr/colorPrimary"
app:popupTheme="#style/AppTheme.PopupOverlay" />
</android.support.design.widget.AppBarLayout>
<FrameLayout
android:id="#+id/fragmentContainer"
android:layout_marginTop="?attr/actionBarSize"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"/>
</android.support.design.widget.CoordinatorLayout>
<android.support.design.widget.NavigationView
android:id="#+id/nav_view"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:layout_gravity="start"
android:fitsSystemWindows="true"
app:headerLayout="#layout/nav_header_main"
app:menu="#menu/activity_main_drawer" />
</android.support.v4.widget.DrawerLayout>
The code in the activity:
public class MainActivity extends AppCompatActivity
implements NavigationView.OnNavigationItemSelectedListener {
#Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);
Toolbar toolbar = (Toolbar) findViewById(R.id.toolbar);
setSupportActionBar(toolbar);
DrawerLayout drawer = (DrawerLayout) findViewById(R.id.drawer_layout);
ActionBarDrawerToggle toggle = new ActionBarDrawerToggle(
this, drawer, toolbar, R.string.navigation_drawer_open, R.string.navigation_drawer_close);
drawer.setDrawerListener(toggle);
toggle.syncState();
NavigationView navigationView = (NavigationView) findViewById(R.id.nav_view);
navigationView.setNavigationItemSelectedListener(this);
getSupportFragmentManager().beginTransaction().replace(R.id.fragmentContainer, new FragmentWithTabs()).commit();
}
#Override
public void onBackPressed() {
DrawerLayout drawer = (DrawerLayout) findViewById(R.id.drawer_layout);
if (drawer.isDrawerOpen(GravityCompat.START)) {
drawer.closeDrawer(GravityCompat.START);
} else {
super.onBackPressed();
}
}
#SuppressWarnings("StatementWithEmptyBody")
#Override
public boolean onNavigationItemSelected(MenuItem item) {
// Handle navigation view item clicks here.
int id = item.getItemId();
if (id == R.id.fragment_1) {
getSupportFragmentManager().beginTransaction().replace(R.id.fragmentContainer, new FragmentWithTabs()).commit();
} else if (id == R.id.fragment_2) {
getSupportFragmentManager().beginTransaction().replace(R.id.fragmentContainer, new FragmentWithoutTabs()).commit();
} else if (id == R.id.fragment_3) {
getSupportFragmentManager().beginTransaction().replace(R.id.fragmentContainer, new Fragment()).commit();
}
DrawerLayout drawer = (DrawerLayout) findViewById(R.id.drawer_layout);
drawer.closeDrawer(GravityCompat.START);
return true;
}
}
I.e., as you see, I'm replacing fragments in the FrameLayout with id fragmentContainer.
All logic related to the fragment with tabs, incapsulated in FragmentWithTabs:
public class FragmentWithTabs extends Fragment {
#Nullable
#Override
public View onCreateView(LayoutInflater inflater, #Nullable ViewGroup container, #Nullable Bundle savedInstanceState) {
View rootView = inflater.inflate(R.layout.fragment_with_tabs, container, false);
ViewPager viewPager = (ViewPager)rootView.findViewById(R.id.viewPager);
TabLayout tabLayout = (TabLayout)rootView.findViewById(R.id.tabLayout);
viewPager.setAdapter(new FragmentPagerAdapter(getChildFragmentManager()) {
#Override
public Fragment getItem(int position) {
return new SubFragment(position == 0? Color.BLUE : position == 1? Color.WHITE : Color.RED);
}
#Override
public CharSequence getPageTitle(int position) {
return position+"";
}
#Override
public int getCount() {
return 3;
}
});
tabLayout.setupWithViewPager(viewPager);
return rootView;
}
}
I hope, it helps
I'm developing a material design app.
After adding settings.xml in SettingsActivity.java & running the app, the activity is appearing like this:
Here's SettingsActivity.java file's code:
public class SettingsActivity extends AppCompatActivity {
Toolbar toolbar;
#Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_settings);
SpannableString s = new SpannableString("Settings");
s.setSpan(new TypefaceSpan(this, "Roboto-Medium.ttf"), 0, s.length(),
Spannable.SPAN_EXCLUSIVE_EXCLUSIVE);
toolbar = (Toolbar) findViewById(R.id.toolbar);
setSupportActionBar(toolbar);
getSupportActionBar().setDisplayHomeAsUpEnabled(true);
getSupportActionBar().setTitle(s);
// Display the fragment as the main content.
getFragmentManager().beginTransaction()
.replace(android.R.id.content, new SettingsFragment())
.commit();
}
public static class SettingsFragment extends PreferenceFragment implements SharedPreferences.OnSharedPreferenceChangeListener {
public static final String SHARE_APP_PREFERENCE_KEY = "pref_key_share_app";
#Override
public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
// Load the preferences from an XML resource
addPreferencesFromResource(R.xml.settings);
}
public void onSharedPreferenceChanged(SharedPreferences sharedPreferences,
String key) {
if (key.equals(SHARE_APP_PREFERENCE_KEY)) {
// do something
}
}
}
}
Here's activity_settings.xml file's code:
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
tools:context="com.abc.xxx.SettingsActivity">
<android.support.v7.widget.Toolbar
android:id="#+id/toolbar"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="?attr/actionBarSize"
android:background="?attr/colorPrimary"
app:layout_scrollFlags="scroll|enterAlways"
android:theme="#style/ThemeOverlay.AppCompat.Dark.ActionBar"
app:popupTheme="#style/ThemeOverlay.AppCompat.Light"
android:elevation="4dp"/>
</RelativeLayout>
Here's settings.xml file's code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<PreferenceScreen xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" >
<PreferenceCategory android:title="#string/pref_notification" >
<CheckBoxPreference
android:defaultValue="true"
android:key="prefNotification"
android:summary="#string/pref_notify_summary" >
</CheckBoxPreference>
</PreferenceCategory>
</PreferenceScreen>
I don't know why the settings.xml layout is overlapping the ActionBar/Toolbar!
Please let me know.
Thanks in advance.
Change your activity_settings.xml to this
<RelativeLayout
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
tools:context="com.abc.xxx.SettingsActivity">
<android.support.v7.widget.Toolbar
android:id="#+id/toolbar"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="?attr/actionBarSize"
android:background="?attr/colorPrimary"
app:layout_scrollFlags="scroll|enterAlways"
android:theme="#style/ThemeOverlay.AppCompat.Dark.ActionBar"
app:popupTheme="#style/ThemeOverlay.AppCompat.Light"
android:elevation="4dp"/>
<FrameLayout
android:id="#+id/fragment_container"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_below="#id/toolbar"
android:layout_height="match_parent" />
</RelativeLayout>
And change code to this
// Display the fragment as the main content.
getFragmentManager().beginTransaction()
.replace(R.id.fragment_container, new SettingsFragment())
.commit();
When you call the fragment on the activity, don't use
// Display the fragment as the main content.
getFragmentManager().beginTransaction()
.replace(android.R.id.content, new SettingsFragment())
.commit();
Instead use
// Display the fragment as the main content.
getFragmentManager().beginTransaction()
.replace(R.id.Your_Frame_ID_On_xml, new SettingsFragment())
.commit();
I had the same problem for using android.R.id.content so changing it to the ID you use for the frame to hold the fragment on the xml fixed it.
Discovered that PreferenceActivity in Sunny's solution above may crash due to it loads a content view without a ListView. This is fixed by adding it to activity_settings.xml, but the PreferenceFragment will just ignore it. The activity_settings.xml will the look something like this
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:orientation="vertical">
<include layout="#layout/common_actionbar" />
<ListView
android:id="#android:id/list"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content" />
<FrameLayout
android:id="#+id/fragment_container"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent" />
I have a mainactivity.xml that has a framelayout and inside that has a toolbar
<FrameLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
android:id="#+id/container"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
tools:context=".MainActivity"
tools:ignore="MergeRootFrame" >
<android.support.v7.widget.Toolbar
android:id = "#+id/toolbar"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:minHeight="?attr/actionBarSize"
android:background="?attr/colorPrimary" />
</FrameLayout>
Inside my mainactivity.java, I have this
public class MainActivity extends ActionBarActivity {
#Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);
if (savedInstanceState == null) {
getFragmentManager().beginTransaction()
.add(R.id.container, new PlaceholderFragment())
.commit();
}
Toolbar toolbar = (Toolbar) findViewById(R.id.toolbar);
setSupportActionBar(toolbar);
}
Based on the tutorial here, http://android-developers.blogspot.com/2014/10/appcompat-v21-material-design-for-pre.html, I should have a custom Toolbar that acts as an actionbar. However, the toolbar that appears happens under the fragments that I add in the block. The toolbar is supposed to appear above them and shift them downwards, but now the views cover the actionbar toolbar. Is this a glitch or am I simply forgetting something? This actually worked before but is now broken for some reason.
The Toolbar needs to be outside of the FrameLayout that is going to hold your Fragment like so:
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:orientation="vertical">
<android.support.v7.widget.Toolbar
android:id = "#+id/toolbar"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:minHeight="?attr/actionBarSize"
android:background="?attr/colorPrimary" />
<FrameLayout
android:id="#+id/container"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
tools:context=".MainActivity"
tools:ignore="MergeRootFrame" >
</FrameLayout>
</LinearLayout>
