Deploy JHipster Created Spring boot App on WildFly faces the problems - java

I've created spring boot using JHipster and it is working with its own embedded Web application (Tomcat). Now I want to deploy into Jboss/Wildfly 13.0.
This is the POM config of my app, deleted the Build tag

I do not understand why this error happens and I have tried to remove scope variable as well. My project structure displays Maven:junit:4.12 so I cannot understand why it can't find the required dependency
When you're new to Spring Boot then let Spring Initializr create your pom.xml. It will create a working pom.xml.

Why isn't JUnit4 imports recognized even though JUnit4 is in my effective pom.xml?

I am getting build errors in my Eclipse project like the following:
import static org.junit.Assert.assertEquals;
The import org.junit.Assert cannot be resolved
But if you see the effective pom.xml, the JUnit4 dependency is there:
<dependency>
<groupId>junit</groupId>
<artifactId>junit</artifactId>
<version>4.13</version>
</dependency>
The error disappears if I add this dependency explicitly to my pom.xml.
Why is that the case ? If its already there shouldn't it be used ?
This is my pom.xml

The dependency you have mentioned is in the dependencyManagement and not in the dependencies. That means you have to simply write the dependency but without version (that will be controlled by the spring-boot parent) of course you have to add the scope:test like this:
<dependency>
<groupId>junit</groupId>
<artifactId>junit</artifactId>
<scope>test</scope>
</dependency>
Spring Boot is using JUnit 5 and if you want to run your JUnit4 tests with mvn test you have to remove the exclusion:
<dependency>
<groupId>org.springframework.boot</groupId>
<artifactId>spring-boot-starter-test</artifactId>
<scope>test</scope>
<exclusions>
<exclusion>
<groupId>org.junit.vintage</groupId>
<artifactId>junit-vintage-engine</artifactId>
</exclusion>
</exclusions>
</dependency>
The vintage engine runs the JUnit4 tests.
And as khmarbaise you have to add Junit 4 that your test compiles:
<dependency>
<groupId>junit</groupId>
<artifactId>junit</artifactId>
<scope>test</scope>
</dependency>

Getting a 403 for static resources in spring boot without using spring security

I have a spring boot application that is not using spring security at all, and when some requests come through for static resources, the server returns a 403.
The spring boot application is running in a tomcat 9 server (not embedded). A lot of the requests triggering the 403 come from mobile devices. I have read a lot of articles about this issue but they all refer to the spring security implementation which I am not using.
Has anyone experienced this? Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I ran the application as standalone (without external Tomcat) and the problem does not seem to occur. This is pointing more to an interaction between the two or tomcat 9 configuration issue.
The problem was a tomcat 9 mis-configuration with a security realm and had nothing to do with Spring. The security real was not connecting to the user database so it was blocking anything static.

This is a known issue in that level of the WebSphere server in which it's unable to handle Java SE 9 modular jar packaging (it was introduced after the product shipped). There are a couple APARs for issues around that packaging, and I think you're hitting this specific one: https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/apar/PI89708
The issue should go away when you update to the latest fixpack. If that's not feasible for some reason, you'll have to manually remove all .class files from any subdirectories of META-INF in that JAXB jar.
